Gyokutei

The property is just as beautiful as it looks in the photos. It’s close (five minute walk) to the main road, but still is super quiet at night. The rooms are like separate villas, and beautiful gardens and a koi pond separate the main buildings. The onsens were fantastic and a bit hotter than I’m used to which was perfect. The building is on a small hill and the staff came down the hill to get our luggage before we had even gotten to the front door. The woman who showed us to our room, Yoko, was so sweet and was the one serving our breakfasts and dinners. She was so sweet and super helpful — we had some dietary restrictions i forgot to warn them about but Yoko and the kitchen staff were very accommodating. The food was fantastic. Lots of fresh fish, fresh tofu, pickles, veggies, soup, rice, the whole nine yards. We were always totally stuffed haha! The property feels like your own little house. It’s very comfortable and private. Yoko came in and out frequently throughout breakfast and dinner times. I like my privacy, but Yoko didn’t feel underfoot / we didnt feel tense having her there. The whole staff were all very kind and friendly, it felt like a family run BnB. My sisters and I all miss Yoko !! She was so fun!! At the end of our stay they carried our luggage and walked with us to the very edge of the property. I would 100% return and I hope I do!

Beautiful and very traditional and charming Meals were great, seven + courses including lobster,snow crab and wagyu.

Extremely hard bed.

Beautiful, serene location. Wonderful staff. My 8 year old son loved our host- he said she felt like his Japanese grandma because she took wonderful care of us and had a soft soothing voice. Japanese meals were delicious if you are open-minded to seafood. The onsen was so relaxing. It was a great way to recover part way through our trip.

Meals are hard for kids if they are not open minded/adventurous eaters.
