Exceptional historic ryokan with a fantastic staff. The room and private onsen was authentic and great, and the dining experience with local foods prepared in the traditional way was a real treat. It's hard to overstate how good the service and atmosphere is.

Out of the way. But that is part of the charm.

The property is unique and the history is fantastic to learn about. The fact you have an onsen in your room is great.

I don’t think there is much value for money at this hotel unfortunately. The food definitely helps justify the cost but if you do not like fish, you will not enjoy dinner or breakfast. I also didn’t like the nickel and diming that they do. For example, they charged extra for juice at breakfast and the waiter said we should try it but never said it was an extra charge. For the price you’re paying, these things should be included. It’s difficult to get to but it’s a great experience, just not the best bang for buck.
