Guest House @ The Bear

First of all the staff were very welcoming and polite for the duration The room was ok for what we required. The pub below had a very friendly atmosphere with locals telling you the history of Weston. A short walk around 25 minutes to the Grand Pier. The Wifi signal was good in the room. Games room equiped with pool table very nice and I played Darts.

Could not open a couple of the windows, this was not a big issue.

Nothing not to like

This was my second time staying at The Bear, as we stayed here last year, too, for the Sea Shanty and Folk Music Festival. The location is great for the town centre and the sea front. It's a quiet location, too, so a good night's sleep is guaranteed. The staff are all very welcoming. There's a nice little bar on the ground floor, too, which hosts live music events and has some outdoor seating. The bar stocks real ale, which is always a plus for me. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to partake of any this year, as we were out all day and evening at Festival events. My ensuite double room was immaculate and included a TV ( although I didn't get to watch it much ). There were plenty of drawers for storing clothes and personal belongings.

I should have requested a room with a free-standing shower cubicle, as this is my preference. I've one artificial hip, and if a shower is over a high sided bathtub, it can be a bit of a struggle getting in and out. I discovered that my shower was, in fact, situated over a jacuzzi bathtub. I managed to get in OK, as the inside of the tub was higher than floor level, but getting out was more difficult because it was quite a drop to the floor. A small fixed step would have been useful and perhaps a fixed handle to hold onto. I forgot to pack my rubber bath mat, which I use if a shower is situated over a bathtub, and unfortunately, one wasn't available. I would have liked to use the jacuzzi bathtub ( a real treat ) had it been working, but at this point in time, it wasn't. I was surprised to find no hook behind the bathroom door for hanging towels or robes, but this could easily be remedied. As it was summer and the weather was dry, I travelled with lightweight clothing, which was fine stored in the chest of drawers ( the only place to put clothing ) and didn't crease. However, in cold and wet weather, most people would like to have somewhere to hang clothing, especially a wet coat or jacket, even if on a hook behind the room door, or a rail fixed to the wall. A full-length mirror is always appreciated and could have been placed behind the room door, too. There was nothing majorly wrong with the room, but little improvements could make all the difference.
