Excellent value

Ease of parking, location, great staff and excellent value for money. Little things like having oat milk , decent biscuits and fair trade coffee in the room were very much appreciated. Our bed was super comfy, and the room was clean and comfortable.

The only negative thing was that the charging plugs were on the headboard and our multi plugs wouldn't fit as the mattress was in the way. All the other plugs were blanked off - although on the last morning I found a distribution board behind the television, but it was a bit late by then. First world problem, and didn't spoil our stay.

Hotel very tired and with peeling paint and dated carpets. In need of a thorough refresh. Torn net curtains. Our room was on the first floor but there were steps to negotiate even though we requested a low floor room. Didn't eat there so can't comment on the food or dining and bar area. Expensive for a basic room with no view.

Care home vibes!

The breakfast was the only real saving grace.

How to put this politely……the minute you walked through the door there was an awful smell of cooking. Terrible decor, peeing paper and paintwork and extremely dirty looking carpets. The room was not pleasant and most definitely not worth the money. The radiator did not work and we were given an electric heater to use. The window was so high up and had a dressing table in front of it and you had to stand on a chair to reach it (and I am not short).

Definitely in need of a refurb...

Staff were very lovely and helpful.

First room I was put in was okay, simple, but warm and clean. However, the curtain was broken and it was on the ground floor. I subsequently requested a new room as I didn't want everyone in the car park to see me get changed. Staff were lovely and offered me a new room. The new room was not lovely like the staff.... Ancient yellow wallpaper was peeling from the walls; there was a thick layer of dust and damage to the skirting board in every corner; the mattress was just springs and felt about 20 years old; it was a twin and one of the beds was stained with what looked like mascara all over the sheets; the bathroom was cold and the shower had barely any power; even one of the teaspoons on the tea tray had a crust of dirt all over the handle..... It was certainly an interesting place to stay....

Don't judge a book by its cover. The outside looks a bit tired and so does the corridor but the room was beautiful and a bit more modern than the rest of the hotel. Staff were accommodating and polite. Nice selection of hot drink options in the room. Breakfast was lovely and lots of continental choices too.

Couldn't get the radiators to work after Storm Amy soaked us.

Close to the front and had parking

We stayed at the lauriston 6th-8th September 2025. Our twin room was nothing like the photos, there were no headboards and only 1 chair when we were expecting 2. There were no plug socket’s by the mirror with the only sockets available behind the beds, which were about 5cm apart. Mums bedside lamp wasn’t plugged in and when we tried to plug it in, we found the earth pin was missing from the plug, however the lamp was replaced promptly when I took it to reception. The bathroom shower is very small, and the sink had many large cracks in it, again in serious need of modernisation. There was no toilet brush, which my 75 year old mum wasn’t keen on as she was unwell. We went for breakfast and were served cold coffee. Once breakfast was ordered we were then asked by another 2 waitress’s if we’d ordered. The breakfast was not the best. The poached egg looked like it had been dropped and was hard yolked, the sausage was very mushy and the bacon fell apart. We didn’t bother with breakfast on the second day. The bar was no better really. I ordered a double pink gin and lemonade, and the barman proceeded to pour it into a pint glass. When I asked him if I could have it in a gin glass (there were plenty on the shelf) he then questioned me asking didn’t I drink gin in a pint glass. I found this very disrespectful and unprofessional. The next day we ordered a coffee and a bottle of Diet Coke, again he asked me if I wanted this in a pint glass. He didn’t ask if we wanted a regular or large coffee, but gave us a large and it promptly spilt all over the saucer as there was far too much in the cup. This again was cold and mum left half of it. The same barman also served us a baileys as a 25ml instead of a 50ml but by that time we were tired and had enough.

The breakfast was very good and the location of the hotel was excellent.

Very enjoyable short break

We've stayed at the Lauriston previously and enjoy the sea front location which is within walking distance of places we intend to visit (theatre, shops, friends).

Parking can be awkward but we were directed to a suitable slot and had no reason to move the vehicle.

Lovely hotel nice location

The room was very clean and a comfortable bed. The breakfast service was very good with a good choice of food. The staff especially Paris and Shaun were lovely and very helpful, the gardens are a lovely spot to watch the world go by and the bar is well stocked at pub prices. Would be nice to have a singer on at weekends to attract people into the bar

We booked a superior room eight months prior to our visit and paid for a superior room on our arrival. The room we were allocated was small, shabby and located at the rear of the property. The following morning another guest showed us their room, which was much better than the one allocated to us, so we spoke to lady at reception who confirmed we had been placed in a standard room with a note saying 'Don't move'. She didn't know why the mistake had occured and suggested it might have been a communication problem between booking.com and the hotel. We asked to be moved to a superior room but, although some were empty, were advised that these had been allocated to another customer. We asked to speak to the manager and were advised she would not be at the hotel until 3pm that afternoon, after any superior rooms had been taken by other customers. We returned to the hotel at 2.45pm and were advised that , although the Manager was present, she would not be able to speak to us until 3pm. When the Manager finally came out of her office to reception, she apologised but said there was nothing she could do. When I persisted with our complaint, she offered to refund the difference between the cost of a standard room and a superior room and after further discussion, she agree to compensate us by refunding one day's costs. We were also moved to another small standard room with a view of the car park and a very small bed but the whole episode left us bitterly disappointed and prevented us from touring the local area as we had planned.

My bed was very comfortable, and i slept well. Each morning, I had a very nice breakfast that i enjoyed. The waitresses were attentive, and I had everything that i had requested. The hotel is clean and in a good location. Most of the staff were helpful.

My room was not serviced. I had to ask a maid for cartons of milk and some biscuits, as I had run out. There was not a mirror in the bedroom that would allow me to style my hair, and I had to ask for one, so a free standing one was provided. I tried to get a drink at the bar, but the drink I wanted was not available, so I chose to have a half a lager but was refused. I was told by the female member of staff who was behind the bar, "I am only allowed to serve pints". I gave up on the idea of having a drink,, and did not go into the bar area again.
