The walk up can get a bit much if you have to do it a few times in one day

The staff were all incredible, so welcoming and friendly! We were there on NYE and had a great view of the show from the balcony! The views of the mountains were just breathtaking! I'd love to stay here again!

The hotel is cozy and has an amazing view!
Everything was great. There could be more options at the breakfast.

This hotel has the most amazing view from our balcony - the mountains and swiss houses view are so near. Of all hotels i have stayed in, this one has the most fabulous view.
Most hotels in grindelwald, you will need to wait for the bus that comes every 30min and stops at 630pm. So we decided on this one as it is walking distance from the station. Initially i was a bit concerned as reviews said it was a steep walk to the hotel, but it is only for the 2min and totally ok.
Best decision to book this place! It literally takes just 5mins leisure walk to reach the main station/street.
Breakfast is in a charming wooden restaurant with gorgeous views and you can ask for the most beautiful fried eggs with flower petals on them. Had them for 3 mornings n looked forward to them.

Jorg and the staff were terrific. Breakfast was great. Room was small but very comfortable. View from balcony was stunning. Lounge was very comfortable and useful as a place to relax
Walk up to the property is hard work, especially with luggage. But it is hard to go anywhere in Grindelwald without having to walk up some steep paths!

Too far a walk to Hotel from parking lot.
Parking lot to far and STEEP for anyone other than young and conditioned people.

Small and cozy
Steep walk up to hotel. No staff around in evening. Not able to get a fork or spoon outside breakfast time. Not able to get ice during an emergency.

Great view from the room. Beautiful and cosy too. The breakfast is pretty good and staff is super nice. Thanks!
A bit disappointing that the reception closes so early (6 PM) so you can't ask questions after that time.

The location is great, you can see the the Eiger. I don't have a problem with the climb to the location because I didn't have a suitcase. Good breakfast. At night it was a bit strange because the alley is not lit but you get used to it. The breakfast was good. You can also take products from their fridge yourself in the lobby. I arrived at 9 pm and I had the key and instructions ready. The staff is very nice. The garden is beautiful. There are 2 chalets and I stayed in the second.
I requested a room with a mountain view a few months ago, but I got a room without a view. The room is dusty, I have allergies and I sneezed all night, I woke up from my sleep to sneeze. I have never had this happen before and this is the second year I have been traveling to Switzerland. The room also had cobwebs and I killed a spider. A minibar/fridge in the room would be good in the future

The location is good but
We didn't sleep well for the whole two nights because it was so hot in our room! There was no net on the window so we couldn't open it or lots of Flys would come in. They gave us a small fan but it didn't help much and it felt like a sauna. It's definitely not worth the price tag.

Location, views, and furnishings! Beautiful building. I was fortunate enough to have a room with a terrace overlooking the village and mountains.

The staff were lovely and allowed an early check in as our room was ready and packed a breakfast for us when we needed to leave early on the last day.
The view from our balcony was amazing. We also enjoyed having some drinks in the common area.
A little fridge in the room would have been nice, and the water pressure and temperature control from the shower was terrible. One morning I had a luke warm shower.
There definitely is a big steep walk to the hotel, but I guess this is a sacrifice for the views.

The view from the Hotel Bedroom was amazing,
It would have been nice to find someone at the reception.

The breakfast was superb! The room was very small but comfortable.
A bit noisy- thin walls between room meant we could hear our Neighbours talking.

location, price
The room was hot, but if i open the window i get bugs.
we book two rooms because only a single room was available, but they were in separate buildings. I had also told them at the time of booking that I wanted a change if a room for two was available (although I did not receive a message back regarding this), so I would have liked to have been told separate building in advance.
However, the staff were good people.

The absolutely breathtaking mountain views, the coziness of the room and the common areas, the great breakfast, the friendly staff.
If you are coming with large, heavy luggage, be prepared for a very steep walk there since the hotel is not accessible by car.

Such a lovely little hotel. It is quiet with no noise from the village - just birds and alps. The staff were very helpful, the views incredible and the room was clean and comfortable. Great breakfast and the lounge and terrace wonderful to relax in. Also really useful was being able to store luggage after check out down at the hotel near the train station.
Only thing to remember is that it is a steep walk up from the station with your bags, so keep that in mind when booking. There are no stairs on the way and the path is paved but the last part is rather steep.

The breakfast was generally standard, although could have had some additional items like boiled eggs and becher muesli or plain yoghurt
The hotel parking was not made clear in the description of the hotel in the Booking website, although available was not part of the hotel itself but down the path.
Also the hotel elevation was not clear also as for myself who is problem with lung capacity was rather a climb to get up the footpath. Had this been known I may not have booked it. Otherwise the view was spectacular from the room balcony

Charming chalet, comfy room
The walk up the hill would be difficult in bad weather, & very hard in rain or snow, but we had clear sunny weather so managed ok going up the hill with our bags.

The Hotel Sonnenberg was well signposted and easy to find from the Grindelwald train station. It’s about a 10 minute walk from the station which is all uphill and gets steeper closer to the hotel, but this shouldn’t be a problem for anyone with standard fitness. We had a self-service check-in as we arrived after 4pm but this was well organised. We highly recommend booking a double room with a mountain view as the views were spectacular! The room was small with two single beds pushed together, the beds were comfortable and were remade daily. Complimentary coffee pods and hot water were provided. The bathroom has a shower and a bath but the shower area was not very spacious. Breakfast is available from 07:30 and we found there to be a limited choice of options, however a couple of croissants and a cup of tea was a fair start to the day. There's about a 5-10 minute downhill walk to the main street, although uphill on the way back. Overall good value for money and the views from the hotel were just incredible.

Very cozy rooms with a wonderful view of the picturesque Grindelwald Valley, very nice hosts who gave us valuable advice on the attractions in the village and the proper equipment for day trips in the valley and around it, excellent location close to all kinds of transport and restaurants, delicious rich breakfast, very clean.
We would be happy to visit them again.
