This is the best hotel to stay in the picturesque upper town of Bergamo. Here’s why: 1 The location is unbeatable at the Colle Aperto next to the San Vigilio Funicular. A two minute walk from where the airport bus (1A) drops you off and right at the start of the Mile of Beauty walk through the historic quarter. 2 There are three of the best restaurants in Bergamo within 5 mins of the hotel that is popular with the locals - La Marianna (the home of Stracciatella ice cream), La Ripa around the corner of the hotel and Baretto at the top of the San Vigilio funicular. 3 The rooms are super clean and the beds are very comfortable with a minibar in each room and tea and coffee making facilities with cake and snacks. The air con is super efficient. There is a good breakfast. 4 But the best reason why you should stay at the hotel Is because all the staff are so welcoming and friendly. You get a welcome drink on arrival and a goodbye drink on departure. There’s a great bar and outside seating, and over the weekend there is free tapas and snacks to help the beer go down. The friendly and cheerful staff cannot do more to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The hotel only has six immaculately maintained rooms, so book early. You won’t regret it. The hotel is my go to when I return to Bergamo.
