Nice room in the pedestrian area of Bergamo. Comfortable bed. Warm shower. Excellent breakfast.

It’s in the pedestrian area, so there is a 250 meter cobblestone walk to the hotel. Il Sole, at present, does not have a check-in, which is at another hotel down the street

Great location and very friendly staff

The Il Sole property has a great location, perfect for exploring Bergamo. The staff were extremely kind, friendly and always willing to help in any situation, which we really appreciated. The room was spacious, the beds were very comfortable, and the beautiful mountain view from the window was a big plus. Another advantage was that the room was very warm, which is quite rare in Italy during the winter.

We understand that the building is an old townhouse and we appreciate its charm. However, one small area for improvement was the bathroom. It felt quite humid, there were some visible signs of mold, and there seemed to be a minor leak behind the toilet. It was also difficult to adjust the hot water temperature. The sliding bathroom door was not working properly and was very difficult to move, which was especially inconvenient for my mother, who is over 70 years old. Overall, the bathroom could benefit from some refreshing.

Superb Location and Friendly Staff, but Poor Air Quality in the Room

The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the hotel’s location was superb, offering easy access to all the sights in the historic area. The breakfast was simple but perfectly fine to start the day.

Regarding the room, the size was adequate, though there were a few drawbacks. The air quality inside the room was not great due to humidity, and it seemed like anti-mold sprays were used, which affected the air quality. We often had to open the windows for fresh air. Other than that, the stay was fine, though nothing particularly extraordinary.

The kidness of Alexandro. He was very welcoming and willing to help since my arrival. The cleaner was also nice and polite.

I stayed at room 108 and it was like sharing the room with next door. Very unpleasant and intrusive feeling The toilet was really narrow and the shower not confortable at all.

Historic charm in perfect location

Beautiful historic little albergo in the heart of the old city of Bergamo. Lots of charm and a perfect location just a 2 minute walk from the Duomo.

If you don't value historic charm above mod cons and most else, maybe you wouldn't like it. No elevator, very small bathroom. Not a problem for us!

Friendly small hotel with great location in Upper City

Small hotel attached to long-established restaurant with a great location at the corner of Piazza Vecchia in the heart of Bergamo's Città Alta, very close to most of the principal monuments. My 'Superior Double' was a basically-furnished, no frills room with parquet flooring, window shutters and an old-fashioned rotating ceiling fan (no air conditioning). Adequate en suite bathroom a bit of a squeeze! Everything kept impeccably clean and staff at reception desk very friendly and helpful. Good buffet breakfasts in ground floor bar area, comprising cold meats and cheese, tomatoes and cucumber, yoghurt, fruit, fresh rolls, tart and pastries, coffee made to order. Good restaurant with lunch and dinner service (spoilt for choice, with plenty of others nearby in the piazza and Vias Colleoni and Gombito). I would highly recommend, if you're not looking for luxury.

Narrowness of bathroom and positioning of toilet and shower cubicle within space available - my manoeuvrability leaves something to be desired nowadays!

The location was perfect, very central Room was very clean and a very friendly chamber maid Beds very comfortable Staff reasonably okay Breakfast reasonably okay

Friend and I arrived in blistering heat of 33 degrees only to discover our room had no air conditioning whatsoever, just fans and open windows. The heat continued in the plus 30 degrees for our 4 night stay. Needless to say, we didn't sleep well in such an unbearable temperature and health and safety regulations must be considered for anyone in poor health. I would not recommend this hotel under any circumstances. The shower was very poor, just a trickle of cold water so hard to regulate the temperature. The sliding door to the bathroom was also very hard to open at times. The wash basin was outside the bathroom as there was not enough room inside!

Lovely people who run it. Location was absolute perfection! We had a triple room and it was larger than expected and spotlessly clean. Restaurant served good food.

There was really very little not to like. If I was being super critical, then I would mention that the shower over the bath was not very good. It wasn’t a power shower plus wouldn’t stay up and kept sliding down so you couldn’t wash your hair easily standing up

Location was ideal. Room was comfortable and with a beautiful outlook over the distant hills. Staff were lovely and helpful. Breakfast fine with wonderful coffee.

Ensuite had a thin sliding concertina door, which made privacy rather limited. A hinged door would not have been easily accommodated in the room layout, so I appreciate the reason for its installation. Perhaps other rooms have different facilities.
