Beautiful, romantic, and location was perfect

We had such a beautiful romantic stay, beautiful hotel, amazing location, great views from six bar on the 6th floor… cocktails were amazing… staff were so friendly, and the jacuzzi had a view of the river. We will defo be back, we had the most memorable weekend here

Everything was done to a very high standard, it was like a very classy and stylish New York hotel relocated to Cambridge. Well done to all! It was a very special weekend break for my wife's birthday, and you helped make it special with such high standards. Thank you!

Stayed for 1 night for a birthday, was a perfect stay

The room was very clean and comfortable, they kindly upgraded us to a superior room and it was perfect

The room was very hot, the bed was quite hard (but these are personal preference) and myself and my partner are vegan and there was no vegan option for breakfast at all

Great central location

Excellent clean hotel. Great breakfast served on the 6th floor with great views. Bar was good and had a good selection of local beer and a gret selection of spirits too.

Nice hotel, well located, a short walk from the heart of the city by the river.

We had a nice room street side. It was spacious and comfortable although some of the furniture was a little dated. The bathrrom had a beautiful roll top bath and a small shower cubicle. The reception staff and concierge were great.

Be aware parking in Cambridge is notoriously difficult. The staff park your car for you which is a great service and they take great care. Be sure to allow them time to get it back. This is not a criticism of the hotel, just something to be aware of.

Absolutely fantastic

This hotel exceeded the expectation far beyond what I could imagine. The rooms are tastefully decorated and comfortable with fantastic views. We used the spa and went to the Six brasserie which were of the same standard. All the staff were beyond friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. The valet parking was the icing on the cake.

Hard to find by car but a good base for visiting Cambridge on foot.

Excellent location once found. Good restaurant and comfortable room, albeit slightly dated eg no USB socket.

Extremely difficult to find by car. Guests should be given a detailed map on how to find the hotel. Our SatNav repeatedly sent us to dead ends and bus only routes so that getting to the hotel was a nightmare.

Beautiful decor. The most attentive, lovely friendly staff - everyone from the concierge to the cleaners went above and beyond. Absolutely tip top location. More expensive than a chain probably but worth every single penny

Fabulous staff, fabulous location.

The staff were exceptional and very attentive. The hotel was right on the river, a 6 minute walk to centre and we were given a complimentary upgrade which was lovely. Our room was very spacious and although didn’t have a fridge it had everything else you needed. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Unfortunately the bar/roof terrace was closed and we weren’t informed of this in advance. We had picked this hotel specifically for the roof terrace for cocktails to celebrate our birthdays. This was very disappointing. If open our stay would have been perfect.

I enjoyed every minute of my stay at the Varsity Hotel and achieved everything I set out to do.

The breakfast was delicious, with a range of food to choose from. The staff from reception to the restaurant were always on hand to help me.

More berries, eg blueberries and blackberries, to add to fruit compote. At breakfast. Warm croissant.

I stayed on the 5th floor, and it was very noisy due to chairs moving constantly in the 6th floor restaurant. Thus made it difficult to relax in the room I had booked.

Cracking stay - terrific location, top-notch breakfast, riverside spa with guest exercise classes.

The Varsity is exceptionally well located on the more charming Johns / Trinity / Jesus end of Cambridge, with a true 'special treat' boutique spa hotel offering. We were upgraded to a larger room with huge wide views towards Parkers' Piece and towards Sydney Sussex / Jesus. We were sad that the jacuzzi overlooking the riverfront / Magdalene was not working bubbles-wise but still enjoyed a lovely warm soak and an invigorating sauna / steam room. Breakfast in the SIX restaurant with panoramic views of St Johns and the Cambridge skyline was really exceptional - cooked to order and customisable, the quality of ingredients and cooking was terrific. The SIX restaurant and rooftop bar were very busy on Saturday night and it all smelt great (we had a prior booking elsewhere) - there is also the Riverside grill overlooking the Cam as an alternative for guests. Our bed was a little firm but very spacious and other room facilities such as large shower and high end coffee machine with SMART TV made up for. We were absolutely delighted as hotel guests to be able to participate in a truly excellent hour long free yoga class with Emily on the Sunday morning, a real treat and super refreshing. Staff at reception very helpful and the hotel surprisingly gives you an extra complimentary hour of later check-out to 12 so we could freshen up post class and leaving. Terrific stay, not cheap and we would have loved the jacuzzi to have been in fully working order but so enjoyable. Brilliant location and will definitely stay again.

Wished the jacuzzi had been in full working order as that is the main offering of the spa (i.e. there is no swimming pool) but still a pleasant time had soaking looking over the Cam and Magdalene. Bed enormous but a little firm (frame not spring-base, we concluded). Don't want to whinge really, we really did have a cracking stay. It exceeded expectations particularly the breakfast and free yoga class (there's a whole programme for hotel guests - a must!).

Needs a management shake up, toilet lid came off in my hand when lifting it, washbasin didn’t drain properly, weeds growing on the balcony floor. Pot of tea at breakfast was cold and had to ask for it to be replaced. Nothing major but little niggles that good management should have identified and fixed.
