A central apartment with potential, but poorly maintained, poorly managed, and unresponsive host

The location but it had both advantages and drawbacks. On the positive side, it is very central, with everything easily accessible on foot or by public transportation. On the downside, people often passed by late at night, drunk, shouting, singing, and making noise. If you are looking for quiet nights, this is not the right place.

We booked this property through Booking to avoid problems. However, we were asked to check in before arrival on another website and provide our credit card details again for a deposit, even though this had already been done through Booking. We were then sent a contract stating that we would have to pay for “overconsumption” of electricity. We had no issue with the principle, but we asked them to define what “overconsumption” meant and to clarify how much electricity was included before additional charges applied. We also requested that they check the electricity meter with us so we could agree on the starting point. We contacted them via WhatsApp. We noticed that our messages were read, but we never received a reply. In the end, the contract was not signed. The apartment itself was very dirty; we even found a dirty sock between the sofa cushions. Several issues could have been fixed in minutes with minimal effort. For example, the showerhead needed to be tightened, otherwise it flipped constantly under pressure. The sink was completely broken; we were told it had “just happened” and would be replaced, but despite staying for a month, nothing was done. The kitchen was poorly equipped. The toaster didn’t work, and two of the stove burners were out of order. There was no rack for drying clothes. We sent a message and after 10 days received some additional glasses, cutlery, a working toaster, and a rack. There is also only one AC in the living room which makes it really hard to sleep during the hot summer nights. Windows can't be let open as there is a lot of noise all through the night from drunk rowdies. A few stand up ventilators would improve significantly the situation.
