Zi Hotel

Even though they claim the reception will be opened until 10 pm on booking.com. Simply it was wrong. It was closed about 9 pm and they haven't responded my refund request.

Rooms are spacious, has a work desk and a work chair and and additional resting armchair in addition to double bed and wardrobe. The windows are large and lets a lot of light in. Location is convenient, just a 5 to 10 minutes walk from main shopping street where you can find all kinds of restaurant, shops. The hotel itself has a large Edeka under it, so it is very convenient for budget friendly food and whatever you may need.

I felt a faint toilet smell in the room every time when I arrived from outside and needed to air the room accordingly.

It was located in a good area, and the price was ok

The room was cold! When I asked for an electric heater 2 times I was told they would come and being one, but no one came! Also you can hear anyone in a 10m radius in our out of your room!

Bedbugs! Don’t book here! We stayed here on the 10th of July 2025 and decided to leave the hotel the same night. My girlfriend got red itchy stains on her leg when she was on the bed and that was a good reason to check the sheets and mattresses. What we found there was truly horrifying: poop stains from bedbugs. We decided to leave immediately. The reception was already closed so we couldn’t officially check out. We tried to leave the garage, but it wouldn’t open. Imagine something bad happened and you’re stuck in the garage. Luckily some woman passed by who was able to open the gate from the outside. The next morning we went back to the reception to check out. We were promised a refund, but despite several attempts to make contact, we got absolutely nothing. No contact, no money. Not to mention the hassle we had cleaning al the suitcases and clothes when we got home. This is the most horrendous experience I ever had in a hotel. Hotel ZI in Karlsruhe should be removed from Booking.

Our stay at this hotel was absolutely horrible. We booked one night in a “Comfort” room — the most expensive option — traveling with our two small children (both two years old). What we got was a complete disappointment and a nightmare from start to finish: 1. The room was completely filled with cigarette smoke. Everything smelled — the air, the furniture, even the bed sheets. It was disgusting. 2. The balcony was filthy, covered in bird droppings and littered with dozens of cigarette butts. 3. There was only one half-used roll of toilet paper in the bathroom — and it was wet, as if someone had poured water over it. 4. The bathroom was extremely dirty: the trash bin was with someone else’s garbage, the showerhead was grimy, and the bathtub drain was clogged. 5. The floor in the room was filthy — walking barefoot was impossible, especially with toddlers crawling around. 6. The room was prepared for only three people instead of four, even though we booked for four. This made our stay even more uncomfortable and stressful. 7. The breakfast looked terrible, and we couldn’t even try it because all tables were taken. The few empty ones were covered with random papers and personal items, so we had to leave and find another café to feed our kids. 8. The parking garage is very low (1.9 m) and extremely tight — not suitable for larger cars. We barely managed to get in. We arrived late after a long drive, right before reception closed. By the time we parked, carried our sleeping children upstairs, and saw the awful state of the room, the reception was already closed. That’s the only reason we didn’t leave immediately. This hotel was a total disaster. I strongly recommend avoiding it — absolutely not worth the money or the stress.

Both rooms offered were not made up , had to find a third room. Bar wasn’t open at all, reception area carpets / rugs stinking dirty Parking advice from receptionist was dreadful, almost got clamped - never stay here again 🤦🏻 breakfast was poor

Good location, friendly and helpful staff at the reception

The magnetic stripe key card for the lock didn't work on the second night and hotel didn't answer when calling their number and also never replied to the chat. Had to wait for hours until staff arrived to prepare breakfast; then I was provided a new and working key card to finally get some sleep. I also wasn't the only guest running into the problem of the key card not working. When checking out, the receptionist offered to talk to the management to see if I can get a partial refund, but didn't hear anything back from the hotel within 4 work days, so I'll assume that the hotel won't be following up on that one. On the topic of locks: The magnetic stripe card lock model used in the hotel is publicly known to be insecure since 2012, so better not leave any valuables in the hotel room... The room doesn't have air conditioning, so it was quite warm in there when staying there during the summer. Have to say though that I didn't check for that when booking. Sleeping with open window isn't an option, since there's a tram line right in front of the window. Outside of the window there's trash and quite a few cigarette stubs despite the room being a non-smoke room. Cleanliness of the room was ok, but has some room for improvement. In the bathroom there were two maybe CD-sized holes in the wall below the sink that were stuffed with paper towels or something like that. No idea why that was the case, but found that one rather odd. Another thing, which didn't really bother me, but might be good to know for others, is that this hotel seems to be used as a location by service providers in the horizontal business as it's right outside of the inner prohibition zone of the city.

the room was very good and spacious, The location is very good, just across a tram stop and also within 5 min walking you arrive in a streeef with many restaurants and bars.

Unfortunately there was nothing in the lobby bar, only water, how’s that possible? I didn’t get it and also the WiFi connection in the room was miserable.
