Gion Shirakawa Kouki Machiya House

Very comfortable bedding and authentic and great location

The railings were not very sturdy and I worried for my older mother

Inherent to the type of house is the dark interior and the loudness from the street

The property is placed strategically in Gion, Kyoto. The ambience is nice, facilities are satisfactory, and diffable friendly. Would recommend!

Lovely old house, spotlessly clean in a great part of town. There is a lovely sitting space next to a small but pretty garden, and the bathing facility is really nice (especially after a long day out walking round temple gardens!). The staff at the check in desk were welcoming and very helpful; our luggage was delivered from there to our house so we could make our way there easily. We’re a family of five adults, and the house is quite small (built in the old style), so if you want to keep the sitting area free of bedding it can feel quite tight in the bedrooms and kitchen - we didn’t mind this at all but if you need elbow room and have a lot of luggage this might be a disadvantage. We loved this house, one of the nicest places we have stayed in Japan.
