Ryokan Motonago

Everything, sadly we weren’t able to enjoy a breakfast or dinner, but the room, baths, facilities and staff were all excellent

Location is right in the middle of Gion old town, staff was super nice, food was delicious and very good value.

Only stairs so you have to hand carry your luggages upstair. Time for breakfast is quite early (8:30am the latest).

The staff is so nice and kind. Super helpful and with attention to detail. The location is excellent!

We liked everything! Do try the japanese dinner at the hotel.

We felt that we had to have at least one night in a Ryokan and though it stretched the budget, we are so pleased we did. We were welcomed with tea and shown around our room, one large room where we slept and relaxed, another one where we had our cases and a mirror, a sink and toilet. We even had a little garden leading to our room. There was a gorgeous public bathroom which we booked for private use and which was heavenly. We also had the Kaiseki dinner which was amazing. The staff were so helpful preparing a special vegetarian meal for my daughter and she had a vegetarian breakfast too. My (adult) kids loved the western breakfast, particularly cooking their own eggs and mushrooms/ham. We enjoyed dining in our yukata and also sleeping in the traditional tatami room. It was well worth the expenditure.

Honestly, it was perfect. We all loved the place, the people, the food, the atmosphere.
