Kyo no Yado Sangen Ninenzaka

Our stay at this beautiful ryokan in Kyoto was truly an unforgettable experience! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with such warmth, kindness, and genuine Japanese hospitality. The hosts made us feel incredibly comfortable and cared for, making our stay even more special. The ryokan was absolutely beautiful and impeccably clean, with a peaceful atmosphere that allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in the beauty and authenticity of Japanese tradition. Every detail reflected the charm and elegance of Japanese culture, making it feel like a truly unique and meaningful experience. We also had the pleasure of trying a traditional Japanese breakfast, which was absolutely delicious and a wonderful way to start the day. We would wholeheartedly recommend this ryokan to anyone visiting Kyoto. If you are looking for an authentic Japanese experience, exceptional hospitality, and a beautiful place to stay, this is the perfect choice. Its quite a walk from the nearest bus. But I don’t mind given what the experience of this place offers.

Breakfast was traditional Japanese and delicious. Staff were all friendly, polite and welcoming. Roof access provided nice view over the city and it was very peaceful to sit up there in the balmy night air.

Building was a little difficult to find -- taxi dropped us off at dusk and we had no idea which building was the right one. They could use some signage to identify their address. Water in the shower never got hot, so we had to forego showers.

The property is located in the heart of the traditional kyoto area. Its clean. The interactions we had with the staff were helpful and warm. The traditional breakfast we ordered in the morning was a good experience overall. They also accommodated my wife's vegetarian request.

It just doesn't provide the value for what we paid. We paid a higher per night charge here than what we paid at another location in Kyoto. The room given to us barely fit the 4 of us. It also barely fit the 4 beds that were given. Nothing was bad quality or anything like that but it's not comparable at all to the other property that we paid less per night for. No kitchen for you to use, the toilet is outside the room through a shared area, and the sink is also in the shared area. The other property was an entire japanese-style house with a private bathtub, 2 bedrooms, a living room and a functioning kitchen. It was only 11 minutes away walking. I would be happy to stay here for a significantly lower fee.
