Our stay at Matsui Honkan in Kyoto was wonderful and one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. From the moment we arrived, the hospitality was warm and everything was thoughtfully prepared. The room was very spacious, especially compared to many other places in Japan, and beautifully designed with a traditional atmosphere.
It truly felt like an authentic ryokan experience. We enjoyed both dinner and breakfast, and they were exceptional—beautifully presented, varied, and absolutely delicious. It was a great way to experience traditional Japanese cuisine.
The onsen baths were also very nice, peaceful, and relaxing after a day in Kyoto, although the room was a little too hot for our preference.
Overall, Matsui Honkan offered the perfect mix of comfort, tradition, and excellent service. We would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kyoto.

The location was amazing - walking distance from the train station and close to many attractions. The onsen was a great place to relax at the end of a long day walking, as were the private baths. The staff were very helpful and hospitable.
I found the traditional futon beds too hard, but the other members in my group didn't mind them.

The property exceeded my expectations and the food was very fresh and traditional. The location is close to everything you would want to see and do in Kyoto with public transportation close.
