We met up with local friends for dinner. Service was friendly and efficient . Food was very good and they were able to cater for a gluten free guest. I had the fish pie which was way above expectation - lots of good chunks of fish and prawns under a well seasoned potato crust.
Tea and coffee facilities in the room with delicious home made shortbread much appreciated after our long journey from Kent.
Breakfast was also very good - the best bacon I have ever had. A good menu from full English to yogurt and fruit
There was a little confusion about the end time for breakfast but they catered for us well despite. The room was casy but comfortable with a modern bathroom. Would have liked a chair in the room.

The staff were so delightful and helpful at all times. The food was very good and the apartment was superb - we like the little touches like the home made biscuits and the bed was very comfortable
I completely understand the need to get on with the lunch menu but 9am is quite early for a breakfast deadline. However once seated in the dining area the service ( with one service person down) was superb

Lovely cosy country pub. Rooms were clean and comfortable, a lovely little extra was a little jar of home made shortbread. De-lish .
There was a minor problem regarding the bill, but having spoken with the manager, it was quickly resolved.
The breakfast was lovely!
All good.

Really comfortable and clean room; with modern bathroom. The pub downstairs has an excellent options for dinner and drinks. The staff were all super friendly, especially when they had an issue with the electricity/heating. Great location in a pleasant village, not far from Exeter and M5.

I have stopped here the last two years at New year. The property is super handy as a location to visit family. The rooms are clean and tidy. Having everything you need. Staff are super friendly and helpful.
The boiler packed up during the stay this year and it was cold but they soon got it fixed

I like the fact that it is a beautiful building, wonderful staff and somewhere we can also take our dog.
Some of the stairs can be difficult but we were advised of this prior to our visit.

Food here is excellent, and we had lunch dinner and breakfast. The friendly table service is brilliant and we look forward to another visit next year. Nothing was too much trouble and we felt very welcome
We didn't find the mattress very comfortable but otherwise it's a great place to stay

We stayed at the Red Lion for one night to attend an afternoon wedding at nearby Rockbeare Manor, and we were allowed an early check-in to get ready beforehand.
Our room and en suite were well presented, immaculate and smelt wonderfully fresh.
Breakfast the next morning was excellent with a good choice.
Staff were very helpful, friendly and efficient.
Sachets of coffee in the room were not very nice.

Staff all very helpful and friendly. Lovely old pub with lots of character. Had super evening meal - the 'small plates' are such a good idea as you then have room for a gorgeous dessert. Homemade shortbread in our room was a lovely touch too and plenty of tea/coffee/hot chocolate that we could've replenished if needed.

Super friendly staff, easy check in, basic room good value for price, small bathroom with adequate shower, old property so single glazed which got condensation overnight but that's what happens in an ancient building! Bed comfy and warm. Delicious food and pints down in the bar. Interesting little village to walk around in the dark. Very close to Exeter airport which was our main concern. Free parking.
Lower light option in bedroom could have been nice, but not exactly a major consideration! Bit of an air bubble in the heating when it got going in the morning, but I was able to release by turning the bathroom towel rail knob - again nothing unusual when you live in an old property so it didn't really bother us.

Very little, breakfast was ok
Very little, filthy room, carpet and bed. Tea stains on bed.Bathroom spelt of urine. Hairs everywhere including on and in the bed. Had to wake up owner to come and move us. Didnt feel she dealt with it well. At 11pm she offered to see if she could get us a premier inn, despite having had a drink in the bar. She didnt charge us, albeit I wouldnt have paid.
We had a roast on arrival which was lukewarm.

Welcome was so friendly and staff couldn't have been more helpful to us.
Sunday lunch is very much alive and well glad to say , highly recommend booking as busy. Ate here Sunday evening and good choice of menu, breakfast was perfect and no problem to ask for more coffee.
There was a genuine act of kindness by Matt that restores faith in human nature - won't go into it but you just don't see it so much now. We asked if we could stay a little while after checking out and as long as we didn't mind moving around to let the cleaner get on , thank you for that and a really lovely stay.. Great walking area so get your boots on and explore. Thanks team - you are all superstars.
This is absolutely no reflection on The Red Lion or the staff but I mislaid my little round pot of jewellery which as yet hasn't been handed in .
Staff were incredible at trying to find it and contacted me again to say sadly not found.
There was not one thing that we didn't like about this beautifully located inn.
