Location...restaurant and room mostly

Shower was tempermental was very hot scolding temperature in fact and difficult to lower. Bath looked beautful but could not be used due to plug issue. That was the reason for booking specific room. Felt like our feedback was dismissed. Requested a later checkout past 10am was advised would be a charge. No consideration given to taking opportunity to leave us with a better overall experience by saying of course please feel free to check out 1 hour later. Sometimes the simplest of actions can repair a not so great experience and lead to your guest to overlook an issue and instead remark on how well the management responded.

The room was so hot, located over kitchen area. Although weather not great, had to leave balcony door open as so hot. Noise from generator outside kicking in intermittently. I think fridge in room could be located in cupboard, created extra heat in room & noise. Could have slightly larger fridge then.

A good stay in an excellent location

location excellent given it is a village next to the sea with narrow streets Staff friendly and efficient and beds were very comfortable: the well-equiped room room provided fresh milk for tea, a lot better that many so-called 4 star hotels. Our meal was good and my steak, considered by all the best choice, was excellent. The treacle tart could have had more treacle but I would not damn them for that! Parking was very close and convenient for our one night stay. The picture is the view from our bedroom balcony at sunrise.

Our only complaint was that we were guests we thought in a pub with rooms but we could not order drinks after about 9 20 approx. They had cashed up for the night even though as guests they could have added to drinks to the room charge. The technology apparently did not permit. Hence our stay was very good but not perfect but we would stay again and repair to the nearest pub after 9 30 (As we did)!

Lovely but bad value.

Seafront pub with rooms. Our room was directly on the sea, it was clean, bed comfortable & quiet with everything provided. Bar staff in the evening were great.

I wanted to share feedback regarding our recent stay at your hotel. We initially booked a room for £120, which turned out to be very small, with a sliding door to a compact bathroom and a view of the backstreet. We decided to upgrade and paid an additional £40, which did provide a pleasant sea view; however, the room was situated above the kitchen and was uncomfortably hot (25th September) requiring us to keep the windows open throughout the night. Breakfast was nice but an extra charge of £15 each though the sausages and sourdough bread were disappointing — the sausages lacked quality and the bread was very hard. In addition, parking was an extra £10. In total, our stay came to £200, which, considering the issues we experienced, did not feel like good value for money. I hope this feedback is helpful and taken into account for future guests. Kind regards, Jon & Esme.

Room and terrace on the waterfront

Recommended and featured in the Good Pub Guide and an article in The i newspaper featuring "30 great waterside pubs across Britain" brought us here. Appledore is a delightful village on the river. The Royal George is a beautiful pub in an excellent location with spacious, clean and comfortable rooms. We had a terrace in room 1. The crew are welcoming and friendly. We enjoyed an excellent evening meal and breakfast, all perfectly cooked with quality ingredients. A doggy friendly pub and restaurant. Short walk into the village centre for a further range of wonderful pubs, cafés, restaurants and independent shops. Would we return? Yes. TripAdvisor Torbayaotearoa

Fabulous, beautiful part of the world.

Fabulous location, our room was a Seaview and it was absolutely perfect. The bathroom is very modern with a full soak bath and separate shower. The bed was so comfortable and we enjoyed sleeping with the windows open hearing the water. Breakfast was very good too. Long stay car park is just around the corner. Would 100% stay again.

Peaceful and comfortable.

The view was amazing, having the private little balcony was lovely, so peaceful when bar was closed.

It was all great, it’s a little strange to be on the balcony when people are eating and bringing on the pub terrace but it was fine and we were told about it on arrival and it wasn’t too bad.

Nothing major but the breakfast annoyed me - choice of 1 drink so if you had tea, no orange juice was offered unless of course you paid extra. I also did not like a better / wider choice of breakfast for walk in / paying people rather than the included ones. We were paying nearly £200 per night remember. Also, not impressed with no housekeeping offered for a three night stay - part of the experience of staying in a hotel for me.

High Quality room.

Great well equipped room including nespresso coffee machine over a hight rated restaurant right on the riverside. Spacious modern bathroom with good rain shower and deep bath tub. Quality breakfast. Lovely people. Our room did not overlook the river but most do. Spectacular (when the tide is in)

Room 2 Very warm. With a noisy air con unit taking up a lot of space. The extractor needed to go out the window. The room had blinds so with the extractor out the window the blinds couldn’t go down all the way leading to a lot of light being let in early morning The room would have benefited from curtains because of this Towels were really old and very crispy so felt like sand paper when trying to dry.

Bathroom was very nice and modern! Also appreciated the guide! Breakfast was also delicious!

We came during a hot day, the room was swelteringly hot. The fan wasn’t very good. Room was tiny! I put on the special requests that it was my fiancés 30th bday and if we could have a room with a sea view. They left a message on the app but should have called me to say it would cost extra. I didn’t mind paying extra, but only saw the message the day before arriving just to double check the details and all rooms with a sea view was booked :( late check in and early check out. The pub/restaurant was closed on the day we were there.
