Two levels of stairs for access came as a surprise. No problem for us but could be for others. Parking very convenient and secure is slightly more expensive

The place was great,the location was great and I am really glad we stayed.Thank you Sarah and staff it was clean,tidy and suitable to our requirements; I would definitely stay again,if as we were this time, just passing through, as opposed to staying in Lucca - San Relais suited us.

This might be down to me not reading the instructions beforehand,so a lesson there for me and a constraint on my criticism. But for the cost I do not appreciate having to be pressured and precise about arrival time; it is not an hotel but basically an up-market airbnb where your arrival revolves around the managers/owners convenience (I noticed there is a penalty for late arrival,which if we had incurred would have resulted in a 2 not an 8). My other complaint applies to practically all Italian tourist accomodation - the on site brewing facilities (tea & coffee) are meagre and ill-thought through.There was also some noisey major building work going on, which I have known to be cause for discount in other circumstances.In the event non of these were major problems and would not stop me from recommending San Relais for certain kinds of visit.However, I would emphasise reading through the t&cs carefully to ensure suitablity for you.

Great spot in the middle of the walled city

Wonderful and in an excellent location. Tucked in a medieval building, above an archeological site from the 1st century bc is this gem of a spot. With 18-foot ceilings, a parlor, just a few rooms, and a great view. The staff went out of their way to accommodate us with an early luggage drop off, we were moving from another spot, and then to our surprise they already had a room set up. The place also has a bus stop right in front which takes you to the bus center and the train station. We appreciate them going out of their way to support our travels

Loved the location, the price point, the room and the host. Nothing to dislike. Room was quaint, authentic, but with everything you need for an overnight night. We stayed for a gig at summer festival. It was perfect . And the living room was beautiful 😍 so was room!

Property is in an old apartment in the heart of Lucca beautifully decorated. High ceilings, comfortable beds, bathroom with a window and a safe parking for additional charge.

Centrally located, comfortable accommodation.

The Relais is very centrally located and we found it easy to get to - a short walk from parking our car outside the walls. The room was very tastefully decorated, the bed comfortable and a nice generous sized bathroom. As well as a kettle in the room, there is a communal sitting room where one could make a good coffee. We also had a terrace to ourselves. The lady who met us was very friendly and helpful, and patient when we managed to mess up the air conditioning (somehow putting it on timer instead of just on). We had a very pleasant night and would stay again.

Fabulous centrally located and interesting place from which to explore Lucca

The room was set within a museum building in the old town, with easy access on foot to all arras of interest. Parking for the motorcycle was just outside. We were met outside and taken to our room. Check out was equally simple

The location is ideal. An easy walk to all of the important sites. Breakfast was not included with the room but coffee was available in the common area.

This authentic Tuscan property was in an excellent location to enjoy the beautiful, walkable city of Lucca.

There wasn’t anything not to like! Others have commented it was difficult to find, but our driver found it straight away and the proprietor met us at the door.

The location could not be better for walking around Lucca’s sites, restaurants etc. The accommodation itself was spacious, had beautiful decor with a lot of attention to detail.

Everything! The location is perfect, the staff (I dealt with Sarah) was exceptional, couldn’t have been more helpful. The room was lovely, very clean, and you basically just stepped out the front door and you had these amazing restaurants on your doorstep. I tried to stay an extra night I loved it (and Lucca in general) so much, but they were fully booked! Wonderful stay would thoroughly recommend!

Good location, central for walking around town. Easy walk from train station. Quiet. Comfortable bed. Small fridge. Easy check in and check out. Price was fair.

The location, room, and ambience were excellent

The breakfast was not on site as we were led to believe from reviews. We were given a €10. Voucher for 2 people to spend at a nearby Cafe. This amount only provided a minimal choice. The Cafe did not open until 10 am. When we returned to the room to collect our bags, the maid had already started to strip the room and moved personal possessions, all before 11am checkout.

Sarah is an exceptional host who went out of her way to make us comfortable. The bed is very large and comfortable. The room was spotless and made up every day. The water was hot and the shower was good.The building has a feel of history and is very close to everything. There is a Carrefour Express near and an excellent Trattoria d Leo very close. The communal sitting room is well presented and a pleasant place to relax.

We managed OK, but some people with large luggage may find the stair access difficult. Sarah is on hand to help if necessary.

A good base from which to explore lovely Lucca.

Loved the unique location - above an ancient Roman Domus with the atmosphere of an authentic palazzo. Easy walking to all key sites and very quiet at night.

Breakfast was limited to predominantly sweet and 'processed' options.
