Unprofessional and rude owner.

Very clean rooms. The location. The employees Saira and the night custodian. Complimentary fruit and coffee in the morning.

The premises are acceptable and generally okay, but the experience was seriously affected by the owner’s rude attitude. I stayed there for 8 nights in 2 rooms (3 people). Nevertheless, she tried to charge me double the Booking’s advertised price just to get a different room -one with a window. I lost over two hours of my vacation negotiating this issue. If it hadn’t been for the employee Saira (?) who was professional and genuinely helpful, I would have had to book two rooms in another hotel at 6 pm.

The staff was absolutely fantastic and the building was lovely and safe. The bed was very comfortable

There was a night club across the street that played extraordinary loud music all night long until 3-4am (no curfew in Oaxaca) The hot water didn’t work. After I reported this, I would get warm water after 2-3 minutes of letting the water run (they are in a 6 year drought) and then hot water after 4-5+ minutes of waiting (not good)

Location location location

Location! Cleanliness, Wifi

The owner is really friendly but she sits in the center courtyard and has no idea that she conducts business by shouting. I don't think she realizes how loud she is and that the courtyard is inside and sound echoes. If you are out all day, this would not effect you. We took naps because the festivals went well into the nights

We chose the room with the terrace which makes it sound nicer than it is - which was just a roof. This could have been set up with some seating, umbrella, plants etc as it did overlook the lively street and cathedral. As it was, we never used it.

Great location if you re going to be out most of the day, it is not to me a place to spend the day.

The lady administering the property made us feel like she was making us a favor by either checking in earlier and leaving our suitcases longer. Certainly my sister and I were very grateful she let us do both, but this lady made us feel uncomfortable.

Two things that stuck out, 1. The decor , loved the colors and ambiance 2. The level of security, not anyone could come in only guests had access

wonderful facilities and location. loved the included simple breakfast of fruit, concha and coffee. loved sitting on the roof patio! the interior courtyard is very nice as well.

neighborhood is a little loud at night but that’s the trade off for the great location - just make sure to bring earplugs!

Most beautiful stay in charming historical townhouse

We have liked everything about this stay - the hotel is perfectly located in the city of Oaxaca for exploring the city, for eating out, for going to the markets (there is an artisanal market just around the corner) and also for leaving for tours in the surroundings. The hotel itself is a charming historical townhouse with a beautiful interior court where you can spend plenty of your time. For breakfast we have been provided with fresh fruits every day. The owner and the employees really care about the well-being of their guests (there are only six rooms) and help wherever they can - e.g. making reservations, giving tips for exploration or even calling some places in Mexico City for us. We extended our stay by one night as we liked the hotel and the city so much and would absolutely recommend it to you!

Only negative experience: leaving the hotel as the vacation was over. Thank you for everything!

What really impressed us was how everyone who worked there did their best all the time.

The location was a 5 minute walk from the most beautiful church in Oaxaca City, Santo Domingo de Guzman, and surrounded by restaurants and shops, so Casa Esmeralda was ideally placed. Senora Rosario was absolutely charming, and very helpful to those of us who didn’t speak Spanish.

Casa Esmeralda is a great choice of accommodation for Oaxaca.

Excellent location. We walked everywhere except to and from the airport. Very close to wonderful restaurants and sights. Loved the tile floors, the size of our room (room #1), the size of the 2 beds, the cheery and colorful decor, the wonderful staff. The owner, Rosario, was very helpful and fun to talk to. Her English was quite good.

The noise from the lobby traveled easily, although, fortunately, the noise from the outside was not bad.

Location is close to all things central. The room was comfortable and clean. The staff was extremely friendly, helpful and nice. The place is not at all fancy, but it suits its purpose perfectly.

If you’re a light sleeper, this hotel could be an issue for you. The courtyard of the hotel echoes and you can hear music and noise from the surrounding clubs and street. If you are not a light sleeper - or are used the noise of an urban environment at night, you should be fine.

A hidden gem

Rosario, the owner, made us feel like welcome friends from the moment we arrived - where we were greeted with a shot of mezcal! She provided us with lots of helpful recommendations and she and her whole team were so kind and accommodating throughout our stay. The hotel is right in the middle of Oaxhaca and is the perfect base for exploring the city. It is also exceptionally clean, comfortable and spacious - much nicer than it looks in the pictures! We couldn't have asked for more.

Very good

The host was a wonderful lady, attentive and available . She helped us book a taxi for the day and gave restaurant suggestions. Her English was very functional. The beds and linens were top notch and the wardrobes were fantastic and a good design. The location was excellent and central. The roof had a great view of San Domingo and was a quiet place to unwind outside when back at the hotel. The hotel is quite newly renovated with good design.

We were first in the room facing the street but the noise of the bars around until late was very disruptive for sleeping. We were kindly moved to a back room which was much quieter. Our room did not have any windows or natural light however and opened onto an indoor courtyard. The showers in this room did not have good pressure or ventilation

In the heart of Oaxaca

The owner Rosario received us with mezcal and was very attentive to anything we needed. This hospitality was beyond any service I have ever received. The Hotel is close to everything in the heart of Oaxaca. Our purpose was to be here during the day of celebration and the location of this hotel is perfect.

Wow! Hospitality at its best!

The location of the hotel is great, right in the city center. Everything I needed was close by. The hotel and the room are extremely clean, the cleanest hotel I have been to in Mexico. The bed was comfy and the shower was great! The TV has Netflix, even though I didn’t really make use of that and air condition is available if needed. From a hospitality point of view, the owner of the hotel did all she could to make my stay an amazing one, she even took me out for lunch. The other two ladies that work there were very nice to me too. The hotel is a small place, but very quaint. They also have a roof terrace with an amazing view of the city.

In a very good location Main Street with lots of restaurants. The owner is very obliging and courteous.

Our room had no windows on ground floor off Courtyard. If you want to go to bed earlyish about 10 then you can hear the owner and friends talking in the courtyard which goes on until 11:30/12!! I think they are unaware of this until I opened the door to ask them to be quiet.

Colourful building with a colourful host!

Perfect location - right in the middle of town, in easy reach of cafés, bars, restaurants, but, because of the thick walls, it wasn't noisy. Beautiful, old colonial building. Fantastic welcome from lovely host Rosario.
