The room was very comfortable and clean.The staff who were on duty were polite and seemed to be doing their best. The Scottish employee (I can't remember his name) was exceptionally friendly and helpful.
During my stay last month, staffing appeared extremely limited and service was somewhat chaotic as a result. There seemed to be only three members of staff on duty and no management in evidence. Most of the time, the Scottish member of staff in particular seemed to be heroically covering reception, the bar and breakfast service largely on his own.
The restaurant was closed because the chef’s wife had just had a baby and he was on leave. While that is entirely understandable, it was disappointing as the hotel is outside Bowness and having a functioning restaurant was one of the reasons I chose the Ryebeck.
There also seemed to be little continuity at reception. When checking out, no one was monitoring reception, so I had to wait for someone to appear. I was then initially overcharged, although this was eventually refunded.
The staff present appeared to have been doing their best in difficult circumstances, but one couldn’t help feeling that a little more visible management might have been helpful.
