Exceptional staff and brilliantly clean hotel. Food in the restaurant was fabulous

Hotel is undergoing renovations - this is very noticeable; areas half painted/walls chipped/removed exposing what is underneath.
Room was ok - we were 'upgraded' for free which was a nice gesture, however I wonder what the original room would have been like if this was the grade. Tiny rooms, no lock/bolt/chain on door and light streamed through door throughout the night.
breakfast itself was fine, however the area was not well set out - plates in the corner and very 'busy'.
staff in bar/restaurant were lovely; reception was fine, but not friendly. They also receive £100 on your card, not £50 as stated, in case that makes a difference to anyone.
really disappointed in our stay.

We’ve just returned from an incredible stay celebrating my wife’s birthday, and everything about our visit was exceptional. Every member of staff was genuinely friendly, welcoming, and couldn’t do enough to make our stay special.
We were kindly upgraded to a stunning four-poster room complimentary by the hotel, which made the occasion even more memorable. It was truly one of the best hotel experiences we’ve ever had, and we will absolutely be returning in the future.
A special thank you to Taylor, the bar manager, for being so accommodating and going above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful time.

Good room with a great view, really appreciated the upgrade. The tea and warm scones were much enjoyed.
Breakfast was not as relaxing as we would have liked. It would be helpful to have a printed menu for breakfast. We did not receive what we requested even though it had been written down!

Location
View from the room. £260 for one night to be looking out to a pile of rubble and a smoking area for staff.
Also the very well hidden parking fee, nothing mentioned at check in about the £15 per night charge. £100 charge made to your card and then at check out they tell you £85 is going back on your card and £15 for parking. Im not mean, but £260 per night and then a parking fee…COME ON! Yes its mentioned in the small print but who really reads all that!
Hotel being renovated, no issues with that.
It does feel tired though- peeling paint on walls, areas of damp, grout missing from bathroom floor.
Breakfast good, help yourself.
Staff seem friendly enough.
Nicer hotels in the area for similar and cost slightly less.

The location is exceptional, the staff were very professional and friendly, especially Charlie on reception. The room was clean, but basic an there was plenty of parking.
The included breakfast, was at best warm, even tho we arrived when they started serving breakfast. But the produce was spot on.

The location is perfect and the views are stunning. We did a short notice booking for a public holiday and got a great deal. The staff were absolutely wonderful - from the pre arrival welcoming call all the way to our departure. We were upgraded and nothing was too much trouble for them. Definitely 5* service from the wonderful staff. We loved the breakfast and the bed was really comfy. We enjoyed the views from the breakfast room and the lounge area.
We did not have any negatives at all. The building is stunning and interesting to look at. There was a little renovation work going which we were told about on booking but it did not impact us at all.

Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful.
They dealt with my complaint to a satisfactory level.
As a lone traveller, I found most people very friendly and welcoming. The hotel itself is in a beautiful location with gardens full of wildlife. The building is magnificent and dates back to 1845.
I chose to pay extra for a lake view room, unfortunately the room itself was very basic and the bed uncomfortable. (I did change rooms which was a little better)
Breakfast was buffet style so not hot, even though they tried, but there was plenty of choice.
I think for myself the biggest disappointment was the Christmas lunch, the turkey was not "carvery style" it was " sandwich slices" style. Definitely not worth the price.
Parking should be free for guests but its £15 a night, which is the most expensive car park I've ever parked in.

Belsfield is absolutely stunning – a truly luxurious and picturesque retreat. Every corner feels elegant and serene, with breathtaking views that make the stay unforgettable. Natasha was an outstanding host and made the experience even more special.

Beautiful setting and lovely decor
I didn’t like that I had booked with Booking.com to include breakfast and then had to pay extra for it.
And I also didn’t like that I had to pay to park my car on the hotel car park 😢

Friendly welcome and interactions with all staff was to a very high standard. Impeccable service
In our room it was disappointing to find there was no fridge in which to keep purchases refrigerated until our departure
There are no side lights for night reading and the wall lights could not be switched off without getting out of bed - there was a switch by the side of the bed which had no functionality.

Well furnished room, crisp linen, and comfortable bed. Location is great, and there is plenty of parking, which felt secure.
The carpet in the bedroom was dirty and a fair bit of mould in the bathroom. There is no privacy curtain in the garden room bedroom. The bedroom door did not close with ease - nor silently, so it created unnecessary noise. I noticed this same issue with the door in the next room. Parking charge is excessive for guests.

Bar area, the garden areas, comfortable rooms. Very friendly staff.
The view from our room was scaffolding, buckets and planks of wood. Dirty windows in many places, especially looking out of the breakfast dining area.
We could not understand why at breakfast time all the food & drink is ‘crammed’ into a small corner of such a large room making it difficult to get to anything with so many people try to get their food.

Charlie was very friendly and helpful with checking us in, sorting our parking etc. Excellent location, quiet and nice facilities. Great parking
Bathroom was modern but bedroom was a bit dated would be nice if had a renovation.
