Beautiful location, quite a walk up and down the hill to get to the town of Murren, but the accommodation was very pleasant-the building and dorm room was kept nice.
Breakfast was a bit too pricey for me to pay extra for, for what it was, though that will vary by preferences. It takes some time and a lot of cardio to get between the town and the hostel on foot.

Best sunrise in the heart of the Alps
Going up to the Sonnenberg dormitories is a bit of a hike in itself - which self selects the people staying there, resulting in the best crowd ever. I slept in one of the common dormitories and had the penthouse view from the window - a full view over the mountains and the sunrise in the morning. Chris is the most gracious host ever, and he is more than happy if you bring friends along to this little gem.
That I only stayed one night.

Lovely stay with an amiable host and friendly dormmates.
I really enjoyed the location and that it was more secluded from Mürren. We arrived on Tuesday, which was their "closed day" for the restaurant and most staff, but that meant we got to interact with the owner, who was a hoot! The dorm room was spacious with a modern bathroom and a balcony.
I knew breakfast wasn't included and had thought I'd pay for it when I arrived, but it was really expensive, and the secluded location did mean it wasn't easy to run out for another option. The mattresses in the dorm room were okay.

The staff were warm and attentive, showing genuine care for the guests. Overall, everything was excellent.
They don’t have any facilities for self cooking in the kitchen, If you want to cook something then you have to pay 10 euros for using dishes. There is no restaurant around hostel, you have to buy everything in Interlaken or Lauterbrunnen. They have chef and foods etc but it’s so expensive for budgeted travellers.

Our 3 night stay at Sonnenberg Dormitory was simply unforgettable. The location is pure magic tucked away above Mürren with stunning views all around. Yes, there’s a little hike up from the village, but every step is rewarded tenfold once you arrive.
Chris, our host, is one of the kindest souls we’ve met. We shared a beautiful last evening with him, gathered around delicious wine, cheese, and charcuterie, enjoying warm and genuine conversation. It felt like staying with an old friend.

I’m writing this review to warn fellow travelers: avoid Sonnenberg Dormitories at all costs. My experience here was one of the worst I’ve ever had, not because of the facilities—but because of the absolutely unacceptable behavior of the host.👎
I was traveling in Switzerland and booked this hostel expecting a simple, quiet night of rest after a long day. Instead, I was met with loud roommates who were still talking noisily past 10:40 PM. I messaged the host through Booking.com’s chat to report the noise and asked politely for assistance (see attached screenshot). But I received no reply until 11:08 PM—by which time the room had already quieted down.👎
What happened next was terrifying. Around 11:15 PM, the host—an older man with a hostile demeanor—suddenly barged into our room, called my name out aggressively, and accused me of falsely reporting noise. He claimed the others were “good people” and said I was trying to defame them.👎 (Seriously? WTF???) Then, with extremely aggressive body language, he forced me out of bed, ordered me downstairs, and continued to yell at me like a madman.👎
When I tried to explain, he shouted over me and demanded to take a photo of my passport, which is a serious violation of personal privacy and illegal. 👎He even threatened to kick me out into the night and said that if I dared to complain, I would be fined “hundreds of Swiss francs” as compensation.
I finally managed to show him the chat timestamps—proving that I reported the noise at 22:40, long before he responded. Only then did he return my passport, but instead of apologizing, he kept threatening me, saying the “authorities would deal with me” if I complained.👎
This hostel is located far from Mürren town—a 40-minute uphill hike away. So when you’re faced with a situation like mine, you’re essentially stranded, with nowhere else to go.

Le patron, sympa au début, Peu commode en cours de soirée par trop de boulot et plus du tout disponible pour une discussion su la beauté exceptionnelle du site. Bruit de ventilation exécrable dans le dortoir. Nourriture chère.
