Mountain Hostel Gimmelwald

This hostel is amazing beyond belief. “Home,” not “Hostel,” is the right word for it. I can’t wait to come back to my Gimmelwald home again!

I wish that the bread was a little softer for the breakfasts and that there was shampoo for the showers.

The view was very nice, and the staff was very friendly and helped as much as they could whenever they can. The place was clean and bathrooms were also clean considering it is a hostel and shared bathrooms. We had an issue with a roommate due to my partners snoring, it is a hostel so it is not like you are paying to stay in a separate room. We actually ended up sleeping outside for the night because I did not want to cause an altercation due to being angry. I brought it up to the staff to see if I can just pay for a single room and they seemed to understand and they tried to help every way they can, but they were just booked up. I really appreciated this on their part, it was nice to be heard and understood.

The way to the property gets VERY expensive. I understand people go there to stay in the mountains, but from the message it stated that the cable car fee was 6 CHF, but it’s for every way (up is 6 CHF and going down is 6 CHF) so in total it is actually 12 CHF. They should really clarify this. We like to explore the area, so if I knew that we would be paying for every way (up and down) we would have stayed at another location. The shower water was also very slow, I don’t know if it is due to saving water, but I hadn’t even started the shower and it just was very slow, it took me a while to shower off all the soap on my body.

Staff work hard and are incredibly friendly, well managed hostel in a super convenient location with a world class view. Food is incredibly good and fresh and beers and drinks are well priced.

Sleeping quarters are a bit cramped, and the living spaces are chaotic.

Peaceful and serene location. Social vibes and liked they provided breakfast and had restaurant available.

Small bathroom facilities, whilst i stayed there only 1 out of the 3 showers actually worked properly with decent enough water pressure to take a shower. Washing machine also didnt work properly and would stop halfway through so the staff kindly let me use the staff washing machine to finish washing my load. Dryer is only timed to 35min which is not enough to dry a load of clothes. No microwave which i felt would have been extremely useful in the kitchen.
