I love the view and everything in the Hostel. So cool place to stay in the mountains.
The food price 😁😁 but it’s Switzerland so… 😅

Absolutely would go back in a heartbeat. Great stuff and facilities
This is nothing to do with the property. The kids running and screaming around everywhere is kindda too much for me. Hope there would be an age limit in the future would be nice.

Best pizza in Switzerland and Italy. I booked the family room which is the most expensive room. It has a double bed and some cupboards, lights and heater. Locked room for privacy. No microwave, fridge or kettle. The bathroom is shared with men and women. Most of the customers are young rock climbers, paragliders and hikers. Not suitable for young families because of the sleeping and bathroom. The men sleep in one large room with 10 + beds and women in another room. So if you snore loudly, please don't stay here. Love the pizza and outdoor areas. The hotel is in front of the Stechelberg-Gimmelwald-Murren cableway.
Share bathroom facilities is awkward. Snorers will keep you awake. We stayed in the family room which is much more expensive.

The scenery was breathtaking and the breakfast was good!
The way to get there was difficult to find and navigate

Absolutely amazing! I was a little nervous about the beds since they are all pushed next to each other, but the curtains in the female dorm helped a lot! Plus everyone was so lovely and respectful and knew what to expect with the beds. I really didn’t care about the beds since the view you wake up to is unbelievable. I will never forget this experience and cannot wait to be back!!!
The time frame the bathroom closes in the morning could be inconvenient sometimes but I understand they are just doing their jobs! Plus the bathrooms were always so clean which was awesome.

it was so cool and very cozy!
definitely small- a lot of people with not a lot of shared bathroom space and crowded bunk rooms but understandable.

I met a great group of people here while solo traveling. The property is well maintained and as clean as one can hope for in a hostel. They are popular and pretty much always near capacity but the staff are attentive and I enjoyed meeting fellow travelers. I was glad I stayed here for several nights and felt like this was a great home base for seeing the region. Breakfast of coffee, yogurt, juice, bread and cheese is included and kept me going during the day. In the evenings, they had a bonfire which was a great place to meet other travelers and get recommendations on hikes and sights. The dorm room is a bit crowded, will wall to wall bunkbeds so I recommend traveling light if possible. You are provided a spacious and secure locker, though which helped keep the dorms a little less cluttered. Finally, the view cannot be matched - sitting out back or on the deck and gazing out over the mountains at sunset or watching the stars was incredible. I would highly recommend.
Only three sinks and 3 toilets bathrooms for the entire hostel meant waits at busy times but it wasn't too bad.

Loved the cosy and social vibe of this hostel. It seemed to attract people who were open and keen to socialise. The view is absolutely incredible and the location is right near the cable car down to the valley or up to Murren. They had lots of games and areas to hang out as well as a decent breakfast.
There is a fully equipped kitchen so you can cook.
A few friendly kitties come around during breakfast and dinner. They are super cute!
It can be quite loud and crowded in the rooms as there isnt a lot of space. It also gets really warm in the room even in autumn when its cooling down. Would recommend keeping windows open for airflow and heating off during the night as the body heat of a full room of 16 is enough.

Gimmelwald is beautiful. This is a bucket-list destination for a laid back Swiss Alp adventure. Not an easy or inexpensive place to visit. Switzerland is pricey. The Mountain Hostel makes this destination a possibility for those of us with limited budgets.
The staff was fantastic. They were very helpful even months in advance of my stay.
I don't think this stay can be made any better. I am grateful that it was available.

The location was great because it gave you access to Murren easily and the Via Ferrata ends there, so you can stop and change or even wash hands etc. The environment is very relaxed and quiet and slow. The views are stunning and the pizza was delish (although $26 usd). The breakfast was okay- it was yogurt, some meats, and instant coffee. I was expecting a bit more for the price of the hostel.
The pictures of the sleeping arrangement does not match the actual set up. You are sleeping like sardines packed in. Luckily I was traveling with a friend, but otherwise I would have been sleeping right next to a stranger with NO SPACE OR DIVIDER between the beds. The room did not match the images when booking. The beds are literally right next to each other with no space in between and only a divider every two beds- which means you are sleeping basically on the same bed as someone.... Also, the room is like a sauna at night. The air feels like a thick wet wall when you walk in the door- there was no airflow. I do not think they wash the pillow or the comforter.duvet insert- they provide pillowcase and a duvet cover, but thinking about those never being washed was not ideal. I am not sure if it was a heater or body heat, but it was moist and hot. If you plan to sleep in at all and want to wash up, they closed the bathroom around 10 for cleaning. They provided wifi, but it did not work about 50% of the time.

I stayed around Europe for 3 weeks and I have to say this is the best hostel I've ever stayed at! The staff was very friendly, the views were out of this world, and the facilities were just great! There are a lot of hikes near by and I met the best people ever, everyone had a great vibe and a love for nature and adventure. I could not recommend this hostel more and I would've stayed my whole trip there!!

Absolutely everything!!
Not one single thing that I can fault.
The staff, the location, the coziness of the cabin, the comfy beds, the outdoor area, the food & the overall vibes were 100/10

Location was amazing. Hangout area was great & the outdoor dining.
It is a hostel with many beds in a room, very tiny spaces to slide into. Not much space to put backpack. The bathroom is shared men/women. Although it was well priced & that is how mountain huts are. Some of the rooms are a bit more spacious.

I have stayed at this place before, loved it and now staying here again and seeing all the improvements is a real gift. The accommodation itself is simple - I slept in a dormitory with capsule-like beds and a direct view to the mountains. The breakfast provided is all you need for a good start into the day and the on site pizza that doubles as dinner is delicious. It remains one of my favourite hostels in the mountains and would choose it again and again for my explorations in the Jungfrau region. The area is just perfect.
I should have probably stayed longer.

Flies, flies, too many flies and people not enough toilets only one for men so I used the women’s. Beds with no separation 16 people in one room.

Cats could have been more cuddly.

Full of character, excellent pizza and cold beers . Great views from garden terrace even live music the night we were there
Nothing really but it is a mountain hostel , breakfast coffee arrangements could be improved

Lots of fun places to sit snd hang out, very cozy!
Too many flies!! But, we know that is not within your control. Also, prefer separate showers/bathrooms for men/women

The location is its redeeming asset.
The trek from Grimmelwald to Brig funicular station is breathtaking, especially in summer when the meadows are a mass of flowers , take insect repellent against biting horseflies.
The property itself is overpriced and relying on its location to charge what it does .
The bed arrangement in the dormitories remind me of a recent visit to a concentration camp . I have stayed in hostel accommodation all over the world and this is by far the worst sleeping arrangement/ experience.
Beds are butted together with no personal space , the mattress is hard and I barely slept .
The toilet and showers are located too far from the dormitory especially if you need to go during the night .
At the time of my visit small kitchen was a infested with flies , considering the closeness of farm animal this was a health risk .
I would not have stayed had I known about the sleeping arrangements and fly infested kitchen

Great vibe, helpful staff e.g. where to hike, nice communal spaces inside & out, fantastic breakfast, beer wine & mixed drinks available, nice big combo lockers
Like other parts of Gimmelwald because of the cows a whole lot of flies… they should buy some zappers, beds were tight but functional, low ceilings for 6’6” guy, not a great kitchen - never got the oven to work, pretty small for the number of guests.

Some Hostel guests (groups) were extremely loud long after 10pm
8.0 / 10.0
- absolutely amazing view and location, truely a picturesque place and the interior was also super cosy and lively
- the hostel had a great social vibe, I became friends with some other girls in my room it was really nice
- the staff were also nice and young so it had a really nice community feel
- the toilets and bathrooms were very clean
- wish I could have stayed longer and enjoyed some of the events and outings organised there
- the sleeping situation was a bit confronting, I am not sure if I missed it when I booked and I am surprised no one else has mentioned in the reviews that you may be sleeping in a room with nearly 20 people directly next to you and only separating you by a curtain. There was no space anywhere in the room to leave my bag or clothes but I was only there one night so it was fine.
- had to make your own bed etc,, it was a very budget, backpacking experience which is not a negative thing but just so people know when booking if you are not looking for that be aware
- the food was expensive and had not many options, the breakfast was very very basic with no eggs or anything

Views are amazing. Super convenient stay for exploring Mürren, Gimmelwald, and Lauterbrunnen area. I booked a bed last minute for an impromtu stay and it was perfect for what I needed. Loved their pizza. Everyone was friendly. Would definitely go again.
I needed to do an unexpected work call in the morning and it was difficult to find a quiet spot where I could have my laptop plugged in and do the zoom call. This is certainly not the fault of the hostel. Just a warning to others that this hostel is the not a suitable place to stay if you must do remote work with video calls.

- beautiful views
- cozy common space
- well equipped shared kitchen
- warm simple room
- accomodating staff
- chill people
- a lot of flies in common space and kitchen
- instant coffee as part of breakfast...just a simple filter would be so much better
- lack of any veggies and eggs in breakfast
- toilets quite far from the room... I mean it's 2 flights of stairs but yeah not next door
- shared hostel lockers in front of a private room aka a lot of people standing on the front of your room and making noise

The room felt slightly crammed with so many beds
9.0 / 10.0
The staff was very friendly. Rooms were comfortable for a hostel although I will say that my pillow smelled really bad and I had to cover it with my daughter’s sweatshirt in order to sleep. The bedding seemed slightly damp as well and might need some extra drying.

Nothing you see online really prepares you for the real thing. Heavenly location off the beaten track, wonderful atmosphere and food and the nicest stuff. If you are into hostel stays and don’t mind shared facilities, this is the absolute highest end.
Loved it all.

sleeping with 15 other is not easy. Bed's are too close and cramped. No fan in the room on a super hot day either.

Incredible views, we loved having a drink after a long day and soaking in the mountain views.
Our private room was only accessible by walking through the boys dormitory, which made it feel less of a private room. But it was okay.
4.0 / 10.0
location, breakfast buffet, vibes & decoration.
I thought I was paying for a single bed in the female dormitory, but there are no separations between the small beds, so you are essentially sharing one long bed with many others. It's very uncomfortable, and literally no one slept well. The dormitory is far too crowded and there is no space for storing luggage. There are 3 toilets and 3 showers for all the guests, which is not enough. The result is that the space is super crowded and feels very overwhelming. We couldn't find a place to sit to have dinner, and then had to wait 30 minutes just to wash our dishes because the kitchen was so crowded. Overall, the hostel is way too small for the number of guests it accommodates. The staff seem stressed and overworked because the number of guests was so high.
The pizza they serve is also disappointing (mine was burned), and overpriced for what you get (21 CHF).

The hostel has a great location in a beautiful mountain environment, friendly staff, reasonable prices...
one man in the room was snoring a lot in the evening, which disturbed everyone's sleep. luckily, after the invitation of the rest of us, he moved to the next social room

The ambience was great. Pizzas & breads were amazing.
The dorm beds were smaller than expected
