The room was very clean and in good condition. But it was too cool. Asked for the heating to be turned up - twice, but nothing happened. The bar staff was very just cleaning and dusting so they totally forgot the guests. Once you order a drink and you finally get they never come back

In connection with our autumn holiday, we decided to spend an extra night away from the center of Hamburg to enjoy some peace and quiet. Hotel Louis C. Jacob seemed to have a similar standard to hotels we like, such as Fraser Suites Hamburg, Steigenberger Hamburg, Marriott Hamburg, Privathotel lindtner hamburg, SIDE Hotel, etc. It is a dog-friendly hotel, so it came as a disappointment when we were first shown to a table in the restaurant for dinner, only to be asked to leave two minutes later because dogs are not allowed in the restaurant. We always travel with our little 5 kg Bichon Frise, who always sits quietly in a bag at restaurants. Since Hotel Louis C. Jacob is advertised as dog-friendly, we were shocked by such a negative and disappointing experience. Our room (No. 55) was very close to the road, and we could hear all the traffic noise, which made it impossible to sleep. At 7:30 in the morning, construction and road work began. We hadn’t slept at all during the night and couldn’t get any rest in the morning either. It was a poor decision to choose this hotel. It was the most disappointing experience we’ve ever had in Hamburg. We will check out as soon as possible to find a breakfast place that is nice and friendly for both pets and humans in Hamburg.

I've enjoyed this property once more. The terrace is wonderful, and the rooms are comfortable and spacious. With the change in temperature, it was a shame that the room had no A/C. My main complaint was the amount of mosquitoes that came into my room in one afternoon. It was unbearable.

This hotel is very special. It is located in a leafy, quiet and beautiful area outside the hustle and bustle of Hamburg. The room was huge, and beautifully decorated, on a lovely courtyard. The highlight is the Linden Terrace which looks out on the river. Stunning. Excellent food. Book the restaurant before you arrive as it gets full.

The view by the river Elba was fantastic. The breakfast was excellent. The property’s furniture was dated. We requested a twin bedded room in one of our 2 rooms at least a couple of months before arrival. The hotel responded by saying they would do their best to accommodate our request. On checking in, we were told our booking did not ask for twin bedded room. We would expect for a 5* hotel, this sort of request was not out of the ordinary. If there was nothing available , then they should have informed us when it was requested at the time or before arrival. The response at the check in desk was disappointing. After waiting for well over 45 minutes, we were eventually given a twin bedded room but in our opinion, we should not have to argue with the check in staff with our request. After all, a 5* hotel should be welcoming whatever it takes and not to cause unease with their guests particularly on the day of arrival. We did not expect this from Hotel Jacob!

Waited long time to get drinks, two was wrong made. Breakfast should be ordered the evening before, but it took very long time to get something to eat and we did not get what we ordered. Dining: the menu card could have been from a bistro, except the prices. The quality of the food served did not correspond to the prive level. The hotel is well maintained and clean, the terrace fantastic on a warm evening, but the service and quality at the bar and restaurant should improve. Roms are nice but without A/C or ventilation. All in all overpriced.

We have been staying at LCJ for 7 years and unfortunately seen a dramatic decline in the last few years. Most of the staff inc reception look like they don’t like working there giving a uneasy atmosphere. Lack of service staff available also meant you had to wait so long to order drinks in the outside area. On checking out there was no one available to help with the bags to the car resulting in us grabbing the porter trolley ourselves and wheeling it with our luggage past reception through the hotel with the staff just ignoring the situation. This would never of happened a few years ago...such a shame because it was an institution in Hamburg in when you stayed there you were made so welcome and it felt special.

Very good hotel and located in the suburbs of Hamburg in a really nice green area. While the hotel is divided up in two main buildings, I can't see that as a problem, since it easy to access via underground access tunnel or the quick route by crossing the street. Has two really nice restaurants including a bar which also service nice food. Also, like the interior in the rooms as it's art deco inspired. If I should find one thing which could be improved then it's the ventilation during the high peak summer days where the room tend to get a bit warm since there is no individual air condition.

I was really looking forward to my stay at this hotel. Unfortunately it turned out to be spectacularly unimpressive. It's one of those places that believes it's own publicity but in my view fails to live up to it's own standards. The place is just too fussy. Before arrival I had been sent a voucher promising me a room upgrade. I definitely didn't get that upgrade. I'm not actually sure I even got the room I booked. The room was cold, the pillows were paper thin and the blackout curtains were not even big enough for the window they claimed to black out. Wifi is very poor. Fitness centre is too hot. To reach the room I had to use 3 lifts. Apparently I had a €10 food and beverage voucher at my disposal. The reception staff knocked €3.70 off my bill - the price of a bar of chocolate which according to the room service menu is €4.50. They also tried to bill me for 4 breakfasts when I had in fact eaten none. Yes, the place is comfortable and clean. Yes, the decor is tasteful and well presented, but overall this hotel is severely lacking in charm and comfort. There are very many hotels in the Hamburg area which are far better at giving guests what they want with the minimum of fuss than this hotel seems capable of doing. If you really must choose your pillow from a list including cherry stone, flax, horse hair etc. then be my guest but it's not for me I'm afraid. Me, I just want a medium-firm pillow, and the hotel I am in right now has provided exactly that. Without any pretence.

Hotel Jacob in Hamburg deserves truly excellent ratings as the hotel is very unique in any regards. The location, the site and its history, the boutique hotel's concept, its preservation of its culture and traditions and its successful blending towards today's guests expectations are all excellent - what is additionally outstanding is the young staff being extremely motivated, professional and friendly indeed. It is simply a great pleasure being at this hotel and I most definitively developed a true craving to return as soon as possible!
