Welcome to The Wayside and Whisky Barn, a sympathetically restored 17th-century barn (circa 1637) set in a tranquil corner of the Western Lake District, beneath Black Combe and near to the Cumbrian coast.
Here, stays are designed as experiences rather than simply accommodation. Step directly from the house onto the fells behind the property, where sweeping views reward those who venture out. Wander to quiet, unspoilt beaches such as Gutterby or Silecroft and enjoy expansive coastal sunsets away from the crowds.
The Wayside is also perfectly placed for exploring some of the most popular attractions, including the Ravenglass & Eskdale Steam Railway, the historic Muncaster Castle, wonderful Cumbrian Heavy Horses, along with the dramatic landscapes of the Western, Central and Southern Lakes.
Guests may pre-book home-cooked evening meals with selected local ingredients, served in our semi-private dining space. Afterwards, retreat to the Whisky Barn, the bar with a curated collection of around 200 whiskies - predominantly Scotch single malts - where bespoke tastings offer a memorable experience.
The former barn has been thoughtfully transformed into four individually styled en-suite bedrooms, blending original character with refined comfort. Crisp linens, quality furnishings and peaceful surroundings create a restful retreat after a day outdoors. Secure storage for outdoor equipment is available on request, and ultra-fast Wi-Fi is provided throughout.
For those travelling with a canine companion, one well-behaved dog (or two small breeds) is welcome in our Windermere (Annex), with the bar and dining areas also dog friendly.
Whether you are seeking a restorative coastal escape, a whisky-focused retreat, or an active Lakeland adventure, The Wayside offers a stay defined by warmth, authenticity and memorable experiences.
