Places like this are a rare find.

What a uniquely charming place! Well worth the effort to find, but best to avoid the fell routebin winter as it was impassable in the snow. The manager ('Pads') directed me in from the coast road instead. I was treated like an old friend and was catered for, in spite of Booking.com taking the booking when the place was officially closed! I was the only guest in the place. My room was comfortable, I had a home made dinner (mutton chilli) and great company late into the evening with two great guys who work in site - John and Miles. A fantastic place run by wonderful and down to earth people. Don't ruin it by going with attitude and expecations of what you would normally get from any old pub hotel. This is a place for locals, walkers and those who want to shake off modernity in search of open fires, great chat and a variety of adorable dogs. I loved it.

A wet couple of days, but we got out there, enjoyed the countryside and came back to a nice warm room.

Simple Hotel with Kind Service and Great Nature Nearby

What I liked was the warm and welcoming atmosphere created by the very sweet and polite owner. The room itself was nicely heated and comfortable in terms of temperature, and the location was lovely, ideal for visiting the nearby waterfall and enjoying a beautiful hike.

What I did not like so much was that the furniture seemed run down and the mattress was not very comfortable. The bathroom could benefit from an upgrade, and the water had a brownish colour which, although the owner reassured us it was safe to use, did not feel entirely pleasant. The food at the restaurant was also quite simple, so there is definitely room for improvement.

Fantastic spot for Scafell Pike.

The location was fantastic for Scafell Pike. The food was lovely and the beds were comfortable.

The bedrooms could have done with a little dusting and there was always water around the toilet.

it was clean, staff very friendly, lovely homely environment I really enjoyed staying here would definitely stay again, they have lovely log burning fires to sit next too

could do with a lick of paint in room there was mould in the corners and cracks on ceiling, shower water didn’t get hot it was lukewarm, food was average and a bit on the pricey side

Friendly, cosy, secluded, outstanding staff and bangin pizza!

Location was perfect, secluded but easily accessible too. The log burner fires were lit and staff maintained them for us too, very comfortable and relaxed vibes!

The only issue we had was the check out time was a bit early, 10am is early when your a shift worker who likes a lie in and has sampled the gin bar til 1am!

The location was superb for amazing walks and attractions. Dog friendly everywhere we went. Staff was amazing. Very helpful, approachable and knowledgable about the area. Very friendly and energetic. Delicious food with locally sourced ingredients. Friendly locals and travellers in the pub. Great walk in shower with good pressure and hot water.

Wi-fi in our room didn't work, but we didn't mind as much, since the purpose of our stay was to get away.

Nice peaceful visit to Eskdale for a Christmas break.

Staff were very friendly. Room was lovely and warm comfortable with a nice modern bathroom. Limited menu next door in the pub due to to time of year. Nice walk behind the hotel and plenty of others around. Quite remote very peaceful.

Comfortable, friendly and great location

We arrived late and staff kindly offered us dinner Friendly staff from arrival to check out Friendly welcome on arrival, room was ready. Room was clean exceeded our expectations, bed was comfy and bathroom was modern and warm food pressured shower. It was a relaxing and positive experience, great location to scaffell park.35mins to scaffell park car park. Would definitely visit again and try to arrive early to make further use of our time there.
