Lovely house with the vibe. Vintage but also modern and comfortable. Location 10/10 shops, restaurants is few minutes walk, plenty of parking by the house. Warm and cosy stay.

It was quite dusty and some kitchen equipment was missing (soon rectified)

Great location. We always stay in Kendal at this time of year to see family and appreciated the location. No problem with parking. Cosy, warm and well appointed. Good value especially if there was six of you. We were 4 adults.
Nothing.

Quirky close to facilities and cosy place
Nothing really maybe some tea and coffee but that’s splitting hairs

We loved the character of the house . It’s like going back 300 years.
We found very big spiders and spiderwebs everywhere around the house. There was no shower curtain so every time we had a shower it made a very big mess and there was no mop to help clean it.
We were 7 and only found enough beds for 6 so my daughter had to sleep with us. The bathroom upstairs doesn’t perform very well, the water that goes down the sink comes out of the shower drain.

The skylight in upstairs bedroom didn’t have a blind so woken up at sunrise.

The location is fantastic, in very short walking distance to bars, restaurants and shops. Beds were comfortable facilities great especially the huge bath, lovely little outdoor areas... and totally bursting with character. And for a little place deceptively large, spacious bedrooms and bathrooms and ample space for 5 of us
Gosh, if splitting hairs, maybe another couple of pillows, and an extra dishcloth... it was very close to perfect

We stayed here for the weekend as we were celebrating my daughters wedding. The property as a whole was lovely and was just what we needed for the weekend. Parking wasn't an issue for us but as we are fairly local to Kendal it was easy for us to know where the parking is in comparison to the property regarding distance and pricing. We had a lovely detailed email from the owners before check in and they were able to let us check in early following my request for this. Lovely characterful building and very quirky!!! Overall a lovely place to stay close to all amenities
Unfortunately the stairs didn't really score 10/10. These are very slippy as my husband found out on our first night there, he slipped on them going downstairs which resulted in him breaking a toe!! Perhaps there could be a little sign put up to warn guests about this or maybe a carpet running down the middle??

The house was very clean. A lovely old building with character. Great location, tucked away for good privacy, but also very close to shops (more than you might expect for a less-populated town such as Kendal). This included chain stores and interesting independent shops. Easy to get to lakes and hill walks, just a 15 minute train journey to Windermere. I would definitely book here again if I was planning to stay in Kendal.

We were there for a local wedding and the location in the centre of town was good. I think the description is fair and honest - it is an old and really quirky building that definitely wouldn't work for some people. Yes, the stairs are steep and varnished all those things are mentioned. The steps into the upstairs bathroom are particularly difficult.
It was good value compared to other rentals in the area.
I felt the description was fair about the 7th bed which is in a raised area in the master bedroom - I doubt if any adult would find it particularly usable apart from as a last resort.
Tip re parking. The car park just a few metres along from the rear entrance to the building (not the main road). It is time limited but we were able to pay up until the end of the day as we went to the wedding byt taxi - and then the next morning pop back down to add our last 2 hours before checkout. Can't recall if you could do it by app, I expect so.
There wasn't enough crockery for us all, I wouldn't really have wanted to cook a full meal for 7 of us in the space. Disapppointed there was no ironing board as we had travelled for a wedding and really needed to press shirts (to be honest I've never needed an iron when away before!). The host replied to a message about this straight away but wasn't able to sort a replacement in time. It wasn't as spotlessly clean as some rentals we've done, but it was ok.

Bed in master bedroom was very comfortable, other two were ok, huge bath and unique property.
The host is awful. The hob did not work, I messaged to say this and ask how to work it in case my husband and I were both missing something although we thought this was unlikely, and had looked up instructions to be sure. The wifi was rubbish, so I had to use my mobile data (not an issue for me, but will be for others if they experience the same difficulties with connection and don't have unlimited data), this seems to have contributed to the host replying with the obvious instructions on using an induction hob, and me saying that there was a buzzing sound and hob still not working after me following instructions.
So host claims he thought it was sorted, he didn't check to see if it was working, which is what every other host I've ever stayed with would've done.
I requested a partial refund for this inconvenience, I was not expecting much, just an acknowledgment of the issue and cover the costs of coffee we had to buy since we couldn't make our own, we hadn't tried or intended to cook dinner there so not as though we were trying to claim the cost of a dinner out. Instead, host went on the offensive, being rude and passive aggressive, implying we were ungrateful to stay here at the bargain price of £175 for one night. To be clear: I'm not complaining about the nightly cost, the host bizarrely said (this is a copy and paste, not my spelling) "Ok so you didn't like the house, ok. Well that hapoens sometimes. For the same price you can book the yha opposite. It's bunk beds and shared kitchen and bathrooms etc. Highgate House is a lovely old house. Bit marmite but many guests love it.".
Also note there is no on site parking, and it was not easy to find parking close by, obviously it's on us not checking, my husband asked me to book and I assumed he'd ensured there was parking.

The house was only 20 yrds from the main st. There was adequate parking, which you had to pay for. It was £7 for 24hours.There were all the facilities that you would need.
We felt the beds could have been a bit more comfortable, and perhaps tea and coffee. I know it was self-catering, but that would have been a nice touch. There's a gap when you go upstairs,so perhaps a hand rail would make it safer.

Loved the layout, open kitchen/living and fire place. Enjoyed having 2 bathrooms.
One of the downstairs beds was noisy and not the most comfortable.

Location was great. If you want a town with access to the lakes then it’s great. Owner was quick to respond when trying to find the property. Bathroom in the basement is gorgeous.
Kitchen has everything you need eg equipment.
Logs and coal supplied.
The floors are rickety and adds to the charm of the property.
Beds comfortable.
The house maybe 300 years old the starts aren’t, they are varnished which make them very slippy - keep your shoes on! Socks only is lethal.
Whilst not dirty it could have done with having the cobwebs removed.

The stairs are so slippy! Very dangerous, I took a tumble on the last morning, awful fall!

Location was great, not far to main shops and cafes. Nice lounge area and modern bathrooms and large upstairs bedroom was very nice with comfy bed.
The downstairs bathroom light wasn't working which made it impossible to use the first night due to being too dark. However they did come and fix the next day. The lower bedrooms also smelt very musty even with a dehumidifier because no vent in bathroom. It would have been great just to have some small complimentary tea/coffee/sugar and milk. It just meant we had to go out and buy it in pouring rain and would be a nice welcome touch. The kitchen was otherwise set up very well with lots of things but missed the mark on the basics.

The property was tricky to find but Alex sent us a very detailed instructions on how to find it! The house is very well equipped from hairdryers to a washing machine. The beds a very comfortable and the area is very quiet it’s hard to believe you’re so close to the high street.
The property could do with some extra chairs for the kitchen area.

Great location. Quirky characterful house with very comfy beds, great showers, nice outside space to relax after a day’s walking or first thing with a cup of coffee.
Nothing really. A little dusty in places but nothing that bothered us but it might others.

The cleanliness of the house could have been made better for sure. My mum who accompanied me on this trip ended up with a severe reaction to something in the house. I noticed there were many small flys and the beds downstairs were extremely uncomfortable for my family. They were not able to sleep all night which resulted in us leaving 2 days before. We could only bare one night at this house although we had booked for 3.
There was a terrible smell in the house as soon as we walked in and the toilets make a very loud noise too. I am not complaining about the condition of the house due to it being old I was expecting the creaks and the old design however, cleanliness should be made a priority if you are renting your property.

The stairs were super creaky and so was the upstairs bed; also thicker curtains would be ideal. Other than that, it was really really lovely, thank you

Great location and lovely building. The bedrooms are cosy and two very nice bathrooms.
The property isn’t accessible for people with limited mobility - there’s lots of narrow stairs. There is really only enough seating only for 4 people.

I'd definitely stay again!

Location was excellent, very peaceful property. Check in process was easy and bedrooms were dressed nicely for arrival with plenty of towels
Could do with more seating in the living room (more of the comfortable seats) Did not appreciate just how slanted the floors, walls etc would be.

Excellent stay. Beautiful and cozy home for the winter .
The log burners were damp and could not be lit
