Pleasant, quiet hotel, lovely location, friendly owners, decent breakfast.

Very quiet, good views, room with balcony looking up and down the valley, well located for buses and walking. The gastkarte (all local hotels offer it) gives lots of free and reduced rate use of transport and attractions. Wifi worked well. Breakfast was plentiful and quite varied. The one night dinner was available it was lovely. Friendly owners.

No dinner available in the hotel on three of our four nights, and there were almost no other options within walking distance (most restaurants are closed on Tuesdays anyway in Switzerland, but lots of the local ones & hotels seemed to be permanently closed). Not a problem if you know in advance and have a car (buses stop around 7). We ate our main meal at lunchtime in a mountain restaurant and picnicked in our room one day, and drove to Appenzell another day. We were lucky to find a hotel/restaurant open with a table available on the Tuesday.

Lovely hosts and comfortable stay

The hosts were really sweet and helpful. We stayed there the night before and after our hut to hut hike. They allowed us to leave our car on their parking, as well as leave our luggage in the hotel while we were hiking (3 days). The breakfast was very nice, and the room was very comfortable and quiet.

Friendly and inviting hotel in a stunning location perfectly situated for hiking and sightseeing.

Stunning location at the foothills of the Alps. Easy access by train and a great base from which to start hikes. Hotel was warm and inviting, and staff were all helpful and very friendly. The bedroom was cosy and clean, with excellent views from the window and balcony. Breakfast and dinner were good.

We would have liked tea making facilities in the room, even just a kettle and two mugs would have been fine.

Fantastic location for running and hiking. Great views of mountains from our room. Owner was very willing to provide gf bread and vegan options (plant milk and vegan 'butter') with a little notice.

Hotel is located in calm area, on the hill, from some rooms there is nice view to the town and green fields. Room is compact, for short stay is fine. Breakfast is ok, not wide range of food. There is restaurant inside, dinner was good. Parking is available for free.

Superb

Seems like a family run hotel. Despite not speaking English, they were very hospitable and we really do recommend it. The rooms are nice, spotlessly clean as are bathrooms. Very charming dining room, good continental breakfast. We didn't eat dinner at the hotel. The hotel is sit apart from the main street which is nice and has a nice outdoors which we didn't get to use because it was raining. Nice country views from the top most floor which is where our room was (walk up)
