Wonderful secluded beach

The secluded beach just for you is unbeatable. It’s amazing to wake up to this view and most importantly- it’s not overpriced. Amazing. You can go snorkelling at anytime. There is a restaurant so you don’t really need to leave at all. You can also rent a kayak and order a massage.

Everything work well when the lady boss is around. If she is not there the workers seem to be … not very motivated haha. Food was sometimes awesome but when the lady boss wasn’t there - not good. Would be nice if people spoke English .

The best place ever

Probably the best place I’ve ever stayed. Me and my partner were only booked for 4 nights and ended up booking an extra 3. It is abit steep getting down to the hotel but that didn’t bother us. You definitely want to rent a bike to get around since it’s not in the main strip of restaurants but that just added to the joy of the island. Some of the best corals I’ve ever seen were right out the front of the restaurant, we saw turtles every day! The staff were so lovely and welcoming they made it feel like a second home and I can’t wait to come back

I will never book anywhere else on Koh Tao. Sea turtles and reefs on your doorstep.

If you like rustic, authentic, Thai owned and run accomodation, you will not find better than this on Koh Tao. I live here 15 years ago before Sairee became so developed. Therefore, we chose this resort as it is far away from Sairee (still only a 6 minute drive). You have some of the best snorkeling reef, with giant green sea turtles 10 metres from the bar/beach.

Nothing! However, if you are after an 'all mod con' resort, this isn't for you. I read a ridiculous review about someone complaining about the animals!!! This is pure nature, huge 2 foot lizards, squirrels, bugs, spiders, insects, birds, you name it.... The accomodation is basic but amazing and has everything you need. Restaurant has great food (Thai locals own and run it, therefore get Google translate up if you need it). Shuttles to Sairee by the staff are around 300 bhat, which can all be added to the room bill ('book').

Very secluded hotel with the best spot for snorkeling

• Every afternoon we were swimming with gigantic turtles right in front of the hotel. The snorkeling experience at this hotel really made our whole stay in Koh Tao. We booked a full-day snorkeling tour where we didn’t see nearly as much as we did at our hotel • Our bungalow was right above the water with an incredible view • Food at the restaurant tasted great • Driver at the hotel is available if you need a taxi to get around • Very quiet and relaxing as it is very secluded, full island life feeling

• As mentioned, the hotel is very secluded, so you can’t reach any shops etc on foot. If you’re not renting a scooter, it’s really hard to get around and the taxi rides are quite expensive (300-400 thb one way) • Many steep stairs to our bungalow which was very hard to get to with suitcases (although it was worth it because we were on our own all the way back there) • Would be great if the transfer to and from the pier was included in the booking price or cheaper (it’s 300 baht one way) because the pier is only 10 minutes away

Gorgeous layout of the buildings over the rocky slopes with pretty views. The swimming and snorkeling are great and the restaurant on site is delish and not too pricey. The hosts are very gracious and clear. Highly recommend.

Paradise on the best snorkeling beach!

You live at the experience - directly on the snorkeling beach and over the rocks! It's the best spot on the island... No need to pay for silly boat tours to snorkel. The staff are very professional, hard working and caring and friendly... Will book again when back :)

Beautiful!

It’s a gorgeous location near such a beautiful beach. We had so much fun swimming there. The staff was so helpful we got early check in and the transfers to town were very handy! The food was also really tasty!

Not necessarily didn’t like but the terrain is exactly how the reviews describe. Also it’s far away from the main thoroughfare but very easy to access with taxis!

Amazing Stay – Perfect Blend of Comfort and Relaxation!

I absolutely loved this hotel! The location was ideal—close enough to attractions yet peacefully quiet. My room was stunning, with a super cozy bed and perfectly working AC (a lifesaver in the heat!). The layout was so well-designed—spacious, modern, and spotlessly clean. Best of all, it was serene and quiet, making for a truly restful stay. Would 100% recommend and stay here again!

Worst hotel I’ve ever been to

The food was the only good things about this property.

We were meant to stay here for three nights and left in a hurry after one. The bungalow was dirty and infested with insects. The room was not properly cleaned as there was food left on the bed (which hoards of ants were happily eating) and hair in the shower from the previous visitors. There were cockroaches and other large insects on the beds. Ants crawling everywhere in the bathroom. I now have an ant infestation in my bags as well. Additionally, the bathroom shower doesn’t drain properly so the bathroom floor floods with water after every shower. The door did not seal shut, there was a substantial gap. This is likely how most of the large bugs were entering. When we asked the hotel owner about these issues she shrugged us off and did nothing. They charge for drinking water, and tried to make us pay for toilet paper. They also up-charged me on the food they sold us. When we left early and gave the key back, the owner tried to give me back 300 THB when the deposit was 500 THB. In addition, my friend later realized that in our hurry to leave she left her water bottle behind. When she returned the next day the staff said the room was untouched and they did not take the water bottle, but the bottle was no where to be seen, and the beds were made so they had entered the property. This item meant a lot to my friend and there was no reason for them to steal it. We were nothing but respectful and even though we left after one day we apologized to THEM and obviously still paid for the other two nights we had booked. When the owner asked why we were leaving we showed photos and videos of the disgusting scenes in our bungalow and she feigned complete ignorance. It was unbelievable. Moreover, the property is isolated from the rest of the island, and the only way to go elsewhere is to use their upcharged taxis or rent a scooter (and according to other reviews they will blame you for scooter issues you didn’t cause and make you pay insane amounts to fix them).

Disappointing Experience Despite Beautiful Location

I booked here for four nights but only stayed 2. While the location is undeniably beautiful and surrounded by nature, my experience was unfortunately very disappointing and frustrating. I am British-Thai, who has travelled Thailand every year and lived here. If you do visit, I would recommend visiting Banana Rock and the beach where Leo Beach Music Festival is located as they are within walking distance from the accommodation.

On my first morning, I woke up to loud construction work—three men were working on the roof of my bungalow without any prior notice at booking or check-in. As a solo female traveller, this was quite alarming and not the peaceful stay I had hoped for. I spoke with the staff and was told the work would be done by 3pm. Still, I was not made aware of this and had paid full price for this bungalow, I felt this situation was not acceptable. They offered to move me to Tao Thong 1 for one night. I agreed, packed my things, and moved without any assistance—despite hearing the owner instruct staff in Thai not to help me. Being British-Thai, I understood this, which made the lack of hospitality even more disappointing. When I arrived at Tao Thong 1, the room I was given was a clear downgrade, around £10 cheaper than what I had paid. After raising my concerns, they agreed to move me back and upgrade me to a villa—something they could have done from the beginning to save a lot of time and stress. The staff at Tao Thong Villa 1 were upset with me for moving due to other guests wanting to extend their stay. This inconvenience was caused by the lack of communication from Tao Thong 2. The back-and-forth between the two locations took up most of the day, and I felt like I was being messed around without proper communication. On top of this, there were issues in the upgraded villa A1 —no running water in the shower and a door lock that didn’t work. When I mentioned these problems, the owner accused me of causing trouble, which was very disheartening. The owner sent me a video on how to lock a door telling me I don't understand. I am a Thai person who has travelled all over Thailand, I know when a door lock is not working as it was left unlocked by their staff when they came to fix the shower. Eventually, staff confirmed the issues, but no solution was provided that evening for the lock, so I ended up pushing a fridge against the door to feel safe enough to sleep.

Perfect stay in the middle of nature, a real oasis!

This place is a hidden gem. It’s so peaceful and beautiful. I loved the fact that is away from the busy parts of the island so it makes the perfect spot to relax and be present. Listening the sound waves day and night was a real bonus. The food was delicious and staff were very friendly and approachable. There were a couple minor issues with the room which as soon as I raised with staff were promptly fixed. This cannot even count as something I didn’t like just something that can happen.

It’s not something I didn’t like but just something to be mindful of if you are thinking of driving a scooter to this place. Bear in mind that the roads are quite hilly and full of bends, therefore you need to be a skilled scooter driver. I myself had an accident and witnessed another one. Thankfully just minor scratches🙏🏼

Tranquility on the Koh Tao rocks, family style welcoming atmosphere in beautiful nature

It was beautifully set on the hill, great snorkelling out front and amazing sunsets. Good exploring around the property, you can walk to town if you’re up for a bit of a hike and will see abandoned hotels along the way and a stunning beach. The food was delicious and the staff like family, the rooms were lovely with great views and relaxing. I’d come here every year!

Everyone really enjoyed their stay at Tao Thong, and would definitely stay again.

Location was great if you are happy to be isolated. There is a restaurant on site and the food is reasonably priced and tasty. Banana rock another restaurant / bar is a five minute (steep) walk. You need a bike / taxi if you want to get anywhere else. Rooms are simple (no air conditioning) but have fly screens so can be opened up to let the sea breeze in. What really makes it is the snorkeling at your doorstep. Would highly recommend bringing water booties as the rocks / coral is quite sharp on the feet. As long as you understand it's very basic accommodation you should be fine.

It would be good if they hired or sold snorkeling gear / shoes.

Stunning but difficult to reach

The views from the property are undoubtedly stunning and offer brilliant sea views with the constant sound of waves

Warning: the property is extremely difficult to reach. Very steep roads make it impossible to walk and very dangerous to drive on mopeds unless you are very competent rider. The cost of taxi quickly adds up and can become very expensive. If you are looking to explore lots of the island and have the freedom to come and go maybe consider else where.

Feels homey but very remote

The views were stunning. It was quiet and secluded and relaxed. There was beach access to clear, clean water. The food was tasty and authentic. The room was spacious. The AC was good. The balcony had good views. The room was really clean. The staff were friendly, especially Wilai. The stars at night were stunning. The wifi was good.

It was extremely hard to access. The road was the steepest road I have ever seen. The cars and bikes struggled up and down the hill. To access the vilas, there are many steep stairs up and down. We had to ask for help with getting our bags to our room because there were so many stairs. It would have been good if there was a free or reduced priced shuttle or transfer to local beaches/shops/town because the taxis were very expensive so you are stuck at the villa. There needs to be more diversity on the menu, such as desert or wider options for breakfast, especially as there are no other restaurants around.

Exceptional

The location is magic...staff is adorable and their cooking is fabulous. You can discover a beautiful snorkeling spot by swimming at the little beach in tha thong villa 2 literally 1 minute from the restaurant. You can also walk in the jungle on a path after bungalow number 5 and reach other beaches and bays.

Even though the bed was clean, the walls and ceiling of the bungalow were full of insects. This should have been cleaned. The toilet was too small and given the fact that the shower had no curtain everything was wet. Besides, the light was not working.

snorkel is ok

We were in a bungalow very hight in the mountains so very inconvenient, expensive for what it was… no beach on villa 2 Villa and snorkling is not good location too much wave. Villa 1 is much better location. no water in the room, no kettle no coffee. the staff were not friendly. The restaurant close at 8, so either they expect you to sleep early or go out but its far from everything. On holiday you want to chill out at you hotel restaurant by the beach. There focus is definitely not customer oriented…
