Loved the room, hated the pub. The bar staff were super friendly.

The accommodation was warm ,modern and clean.

No refrigeration for the milk in the room and the pub itself was extremely run down. We chose not to eat in the restaurant as it looked very shoddy.

Overnight stay to break up a long journey, but will definitely stay again

Wonderful Real Ale pub with lots of character. Good facilities and great breakfast. The accommodation and food was excellent value for money and staff very helpful and friendly.

Friendly and comfortable stay. Rooms are across from the main building - only a thirty second walk. Room was clean and good value. Food was good and reasonably priced too. A good alternative to a chain hotel booking in a nice large villagfe with plenty of facilities available.

A comfortable stay on route to Stansted airport

Spacious bed and very comfortable. Room was a good size as was the bathroom. Enjoyed the pub and had a nice meal in the bar.

The shower was in need of replacement.

Welcoming and comfy

Very friendly staff welcomed us on our evening arrival and showed us our room and explained the various aspects of the hotel

Made no difference to our stay but the ominous crack running down the wall was a bit off putting, the toilet roll holder had broken off so that needs replacing.

Good place to stay - we're likely to do so again.

Very helpful staff - especially when I suffered a minor accident. Very comfortable bed. Spacious room and en-suite. Quiet environment.

Room wasn't cleaned/tidied on Saturday and only partially on Sunday (thoroughly done on Monday though). Temperature control on shower was too stiff for me to adjust. Minor problem with rail in wardrobe - difficult for me to reach (I'm 5'5").

Great stay at The Red Lion, Histon.

The pub was warm and welcoming and because the weather was a bit drab, it gave me good cause to retire early to the lovely cozy room and super comfortable bed!

Lovely room in a great location

Lovely modern room, tucked away behind the pub, in a great location. Friendly staff.

The toilet makes a regular, periodic noise, audible from bed, so it's not great for anyone particularly noise-sensitive. The shower flooring is in poor condition, in sharp contrast to everything else which was clean and in great condition.

Very large room and comfortable King size bed. Plenty of storage for bags etc. Quiet area. Nice pub, good meals. Lovely bakery across the road for excellent breakfasts.

A great place to stay if you are coming to the Cambridge area

The Red Lion is a pub with four rooms in a separate building a short walk from the back door of the pub. Our room was in excellent condition and very clean. It appears that it may recently have been completely remodeled/renovated as the carpet appeared to be brand new; and everything else was in tiptop shape. The Red Lion is very convenient to Cambridge and located in a little shopping/market area surrounded by residential housing. We arrived too late for a meal but enjoyed drinks in the pub - there is also a nice green with picnic tables out back where many were enjoying drinks. Inside, you could tell this is a neighborhood pub from the friendly conversations and banter and also because for the number of people inside and out, there weren't nearly enough cars out back for the number of people on the premises. There is also a nice bakery across the street providing fresh pastries and other options. I would definitely stay here again if I was in this area.

Ideal location - rooms need a good clean!

Very good location, handy for Cambridge and Newmarket races. Friendly, lively pub mixed with very quiet rooms.

This is the 4th time we have stayed at the Red Lion. I’m afraid this time standards have gone down. The room needed a very good clean, please see photos. The shower unit was so bad neither of us felt we could wash in it, Couldn’t mention it to anyone as the check out was just putting your key in a key safe. The pub was always very busy so felt any complaints would have fell on stony ground. Red Lion get your cleaners sorted and no doubt we’ll be back.

Great place and good value for money

The location is close to Cambridge city and 8 minute drive to a park and ride service into the city. While you have to visit the pub for the check in, the actual room is situated away from the pub which means there was no issue with noise ect. The room is spacious and well maintained.

The rooms were a bit musty when entering and could do with a through clean, but nothing serious that would put me off staying there again.

Super place for a weekend stay in

We love this place, second time we'd stayed and it just gets better. Will be a regular visit from now on. Well priced, comfortable and well priced rooms. The staff are so accommodating and the food is amazing. All round perfect for a weekend away. Couldn't rate highly enough.

Lovely, becoming one of my favourite stops

Stayed previously very convenient location, great pub, rooms superb, like the freedom of coming & going, especially as I am often out & away early for work

Only minor irritation was that in my room I could not access the wi-fi on my laptop or tablet. I was going to do a little paperwork, but perhaps it was telling me that it had been a long day & needed to take a break. If I had been desperate I could have probably got a better connection in the pub.

Usual nice stay spoilt by room smelling of smoke

Location and staff, we have stayed before and can not fault the rooms however this time the room smelt strange then it became apparent it was smoke

The room smelled of smoke , they had tried to disguise it and when we first went in we could not smell it. However later on in the evening after return the smell had changed to smoke , when we woke in the morning the smell was even stronger.

Location was great

The bathroom was filthy. The toilet still has somebody else’s faeces in it. I don’t think the bathroom was cleaned at all before our stay as the bathroom floor, sink toilet shower, all dirty. Shower head mouldy. Carpet in bedroom filthy and the kettle just full of lime scale. We stopped here four years ago and it was immaculate but definitely gone down hill. I was going to go to staff and ask for a full refund but didn’t want to spoil our weekend away that we had been looking forward to. Was very upsetting though

The accommodation was located behind the pub in a row of 4 cabins offering easy access to the pub and the village.

There was no breakfast included and when we arrived there, they were changing Chefs, so there was no food on offer. The carpet in the room was stained and dirty looking and could do with a good wash.

Location.

Ceiling velux didn’t work so room was hot Thermostat on shower didn’t work, boiling hot water. Hairdryer missing Sink was blocked No bath gel/shampoo

Food and staff excellent

For the price the room was a bit shabby and in need of some renewals. Carpet stained….why have carpet?? No tea bags just an empty pot, toilet roll holder broken, cracks in walls.
