We have been coming here for a few years now but stopped last year due to the hotel demise. We heard about the renovation and decided to come for a break this year and what a change!
Hotel is absolutely stunning, room was more than we expected, everything was meticulous. The whole hotel was spotless. The staff were wonderful. Delicious food. Just perfect!

Close to town centre and a comfortable stay
The lifts were out of use and couldn’t control the heat of the room properly

Grand building and well looked after
Initially a room that smelled of smoke but staff quickly solved that situation by moving rooms for us

Great location and friendly staff
Fun decor
Paid extra for a double rather than a twin. The double was 2 singles pushed together and had a ridge down the middle this was not stated anywhere in the room information!
Breakfast was awful! Eggs resembled a dry bouncy foam, sausages were a very strange consistency also. Hash browns were very pale (undercooked) absolute the worst breakfast ive ever seen at a hotel. We went into town and had breakfast at a cafe. We paid alot for the hotel and breakfast and was thoroughly disappointed with the outcome.

Very large uncomfortable bedrooms. Large choice of sitting areas downstairs in Reception/bar areas.
The surrounding area, however for some people this would be a bonus as it was right opposite the train station.

Nothing lovely hotel

Large comfortable room. Location great with easy parking very close
Initially had to move rooms as there was no water pressure in the room. Toilet didn't flush and water coming out of taps at a drip. It wasn't possible to ring reception from the room as the phones didn't work, so had to queue at reception if there was a problem

Good location. Nice decor. Friendly staff.
No hotel car park, used pay & display nearby. Very limited evening menu and food arrived cold. Room had a number of maintenance issues.

Staff were friendly.
Our room did not meet our expectations, the curtain was hanging off, mould in the shower cubicle, peeling paint. A very tired room. Breakfast wasn't great quality, however, it was varied.

Hotel was a few steps from the train station and 10 minutes walk from the town centre.
Hotel was really nice and the food in the restaurant was really good in the evening, didn’t have breakfast so can’t comment on that.
No spa facilities was the only down side. Could have done with a massage after a full day of shopping.

Lovely and clean, gorgeous foyer areas and hotel bar.
Little walk into the centre but nothing inconvenient probably about 10 mins or so

We stayed for one night in an executive room. The hotel is much bigger than we expected and we were in another building behind the hotel. The room was spacious and clean with a nice view above the local houses on the outskirts of Chester. It was quiet and comfortable and great for our needs.
We were tired so decided to eat in the hotel rather than going out in Chester as anticipated. Unfortunately the restaurant was a big disappointment. We both had the sirloin steak which was honestly the toughest steak we have ever tasted. I mentioned it to the waitress and they offered to do two more but as they were just going to make two of the same cuts of meat I really didn't see the point. They did offer free dessert as compensation but I really feel the steaks should have been taken off the bill. It cost us over £80 with wine for a very second rate experience. We also found the breakfast very disappointing for £16 per head. It was a very average buffet style breakfast of average quality. All in all we left feeling like we had wasted £100 on sub standard food which is a shame as we really enjoyed the hotel otherwise.

Location is brilliant. Downstairs is really impressive and the Christmas decorations are beautiful.
There was a water leak from the bathroom ceiling, phoned reception who swiftly moved us to another room. Totally understand a water leak can’t be helped. The second room however was horrific. Holes in the carpet, brown stains on the ceiling, holes in couch and a very small bed. Not the superior king that we had booked.
Reluctantly they moved us again, saying that the room was the same as what we booked, regardless it was horrific. Third room had stains on the bedding but by this point it was midnight and we didn’t have the energy. We considered packing up and heading home in the car but made do with what we had.
Staff made us feel like we was being dramatic but the second room was honestly the worst room I’ve ever seen.

Bathroom could have been a little cleaner. Some old dust and hairs found.

Hotel was Clean And Tidy, fair amount of staff about, Breakfast was good, Small glassess for the Juice !, Bar had plenty of space and tables spread through the bar area. Bar prices as you would Expect.
We had a couple of small issues in the room, which were quickly sorted out by Ellis & Morgan, Spotted Ellis about the Hotel busy at Work, and he even remembered to Check on the Issue we had and how our visit was (nice Guy - Hard Working from what i Saw on the several occassions we bumped into him around the Hotel ) which is Far Bigger than we had expected.
Just across from Railway Station, The Hotel was a little further out from the Markets & shopping area than i had Thought, Walkable, But hard if you have a Hip Issue as the Wife As, Urbers came in handed for that.
We eat out in the centre, other than Breakfast.
BAR prices, but come to expect those.

The bar area was very comfortable with a food selection of drinks. Some of the staff were excellent
The room, with the exception of the bathroom, was poor, old mattress with bad springs and very cramped (301) the heating worked sometimes and not others. Some of the staff were poor to say the least. A gentleman on reception particularly. We arrived quite early (2pm) and asked if our room was ready we were told no it would be 4pm we accepted and sat in the bar, had a couple of drinks and food over an hour or more. Went back spoke to someone different, she asked why we were waiting and that the room was ready before 2pm and glared at the man who advised it wasnt

Perfect location as we got the train into Chester. The staff were helpful from arrival and the hotel was beautiful.
Nothing.
5.0 / 10.0
The rooms were clean and staff were friendly. The location is within easy walking distance of the shops and museums and places of interest.
We booked half board but the dinner menu was fairly limited and the food was rather poor in standard eg. Pitta and humous was clearly just shop bought and vegetables roughly peeled. The breakfast was disappointing too - all self-service with one spoon for dishing each item shared with all residents. Tea and coffee from machine. Our double bed was tiny and not very comfortable. The car park was pricey and some shady people hanging about after dark.

Room was a good size and very clean ,well prepared and comfortable.
Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice.
For this visit the location was excellent as we went to a music venue and my friend arrived by train.
Little bit out of the centre but not a problem on this occasion as we only stayed one night .If I was staying longer I would prefer to stay nearer the centre.
The parking like most places is a bit expensive but I don’t know if the car park belongs to the hotel.

We were staying with another couple & rooms were different sizes for same price! Also one room was ready, the other would be more than an hour before ready. Staff realised this was not good & sorted 2 rooms same size, close together and ready!
We booked at 4pm to dine at 7.30pm. When we arrived at the dining room, we were told there was a 45 minute wait to be seated!!! Worse still 2 thirds of the menu was no longer available, 10 minutes after that they weee told to stop serving at all! The reception staff went above & beyond to try and source another restaurant that was still serving after 8pm on a Sunday. Very very disappointing for a hotel this size & calibre.

Location and staff. All the staff were utterly lovely. Clearly rushed off their feet and dealing with rude and impatient guests, yet incredibly pleasant despite from what I could see was clear provocation by certain guests. The bed was really comfy. Loved the slippers, the beautiful towels and dressing gowns. Nice touches of water, snacks and toiletries.
The bathroom was a little tired and the carpet stained. But nothing other than wear and tear. Everything worked ok. The idiots playing knock and run at 2am on our bedroom door… nothing that the staff or hotel could mess with.

Very nice stay lovely staff nice comfy room, nice breakfast we enjoyed our stay.
No faults, really breakfast was a little pricey.
6.0 / 10.0
The bar area and the front of the hotel were clean and modern.
The room in which we stayed was dated and gaudy. It was classed as an ‘executive double room’, meaning we paid extra than a standard room. It was possibly one of the furthest rooms from the front of the hotel and on the 7th floor.
