My Stay

I stayed here for 2 nights with my young son. The manager (I think) was lovely. She engaged with my son, asked him lots of questions about our visit, and was just really pleasant.

Very reasonably priced accommodation a short walk from the centre.

The breakfast was very good and reasonably priced, plenty of it and well presented. The location was about a 15 minute walk to the centre of Chester and there was plenty of parking spaces in the car park.

Indifferent senior staff, walking about chatting whilst leaving young barman to deal with food and bar orders on busy quiz night. Gave up at bar and thankfully resorted to app. Will not returnm

Great location, great atmosphere, comfy beds and great staff.

Great location with free parking. Nice lively atmosphere in the pub but the rooms are far enough away to not disturb hotel guests. Door at the back to enter the hotel if after 11pm Comfy beds, clean bedding and towels. Friendly bar staff.

The room we stayed in was a bit shabby such as a few holes in the net curtain and the decor and carpets looked a little warn.

Great location and friendly, my only complaint is Room 14 was cold on arrival on a cold winter night with no heating on until the reception was informed and this is something that has happened on a previous stay in the same room. The window on the right in the same room does not close and in the winter lets in the cold I have paid varying prices for previous stays at this hotel but i think their needs to be some improvements for it to be perfect

Perfect and exactly what we wanted and needed.

Location perfect for zoo trips. Staff were nice and friendly. Nice to have the bar so close to the room made it easy to nip out and grab a drink when relaxing in the room.

Good for purpose - a one night businesss stay

the hotel was fine for a one night stay, easy to find and convenient for Chester. Good pub food for dinner. Room wifi was good

Breakfast could have been a little more imaginative. Great if you like a fry up in the morning but for me I'd have liked to see a better healthier option of muesli and fruit. I also asked for a boiled egg and that wasn't possible

Room was very clean. OK refreshments, staff really friendly and helpful, breakfast ace! Great location for visiting Chester Zoo, only 5 mins in car. Didn't have evening meal but greene king good at other pubs. Good price

Room was OK, bit like a box, small double bed. Sloping radiator, shower hard to get good temp, couldn't chomecast to TV, no Internet connection on TV.

Large comfortable clean rooms, easy access to the pub made for convenient dining for tea and breakfast. Easy to find, free parking.

I guess you get what you pay for!

The location was good. Very good parking facilities. Friendly staff and reasonable food options for evening meals. The breakfast was good.

The room was very basic and was cold as the heating didn't come on until 5 pm. The bed was really uncomfortable so a restful sleep was impossible. The room was draughty because it was not possible to close the window properly. The room television required the use of a mobile smart phone to operate, however, it was impossible to use as the internet access didn't work. I can't understand why it couldn't be connected via a more conventional method.

Beds were the most uncomfortable things we have both ever slept in, like lying on wood. Shower was appalling, didn't work properly and was not clean. If you are any larger than a size 14 there's no way you could physically get into the shower it was so small, and the door opened inwards to the shower!!!! Food in the pub wasn't great.

One of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in.

Excellent staff, good food, very comfy bed and good bathroom. Was informed ahead of booking that the TV in room did not work.

Walls are thin so could hear neighbours clearly. There was an aggressive man in the bar, shouting and threatening his sister on his phone which made me uncomfortable. Not the fault of the staff who were excellent.

Friends anniversary weekender 2025

Loved the location, travelling solo, meeting friends I liked staying in a pub, knowing there were other people to meet, enjoyed, breakfast, nice size pub, comfy bed, great size bathroom, bus stop outside to city centre, 10-15 min walk to city centre. The staff were friendly and very helpful. And the pub done a great job Decorating and entertainment for 🎃 Halloween.

Room was a bit of a tight squeeze with a massive television that was a bit of a h&s risk if you don't move it to go round the bed. Lovely and clean and warm. I loved the warmth. Lots of plug sockets in the right places. Shower wasn't the most powerful but it was hot and did the job. Bed was comfy and bedding fresh with extra pillows. Very happy and would return staff were lovely and accommodating.

Telly a bit large for small room. Shower head might need limescale removal as it was beginning to get a bit dribbly.

Adequate for a short stay.

The Oaklands is a typical pub eatery with choices of drink and food at very reasonable prices, the venue can get fairly busy if there is a sporting event on the television. The room was of a reasonable size with with the usual facilities in the room. The décor and general upkeep was slightly poor as the open areas needed some attention.

The bedroom window was blocked with overgrown bushes, which made the room quite dark. The television was very unpredictable and didn't work all of the time. (Reported to reception)

Lovely Pub Stay in Chester

The atmosphere was lovely, the staff friendly, and the breakfast tasty. Great location for both central Chester, and the zoo and aquarium. Massive room. Highly recommend.

Being super picky, the shower could have been a little more powerful, but that's a very small thing. Everything else was amazing.

Shortened but adequate overnight accommodation with easy access on the outskirts of Chester

Staff member very helpful once contatct able to be made. Comfortable overdue bed !

Chaotic communications trying to advise of traffic delayed very late arrival for access. Ridiculously all comms lines go to a stupid AI voice that is incompetent to cope with my circumstances. No signage nor direct intercom to the duty night manager....quite reasonably fulfilling his many duties. Finally managed to make contact at 1.30am c. 40 mins after arriving. Some signage noted tucked around the back of the property...but still NO means of contacting anyone direct for access. Quite ludicrous. And the Booking.com line advised I could speak to someone after 9am the next day ! Fat lot of use.

Good value, comfortable accommodation.

Lovely large rooms and beds. Very clean. Very friendly, helpful staff. Good value food available in the Hungry Horse. Good value for money overall.

Shower was not very hot and a weak flow. Windows need replacing. Television was difficult to watch due to poor signal.
