Cass Lodge is within easy reach of the North Yorks Moors - recently voted as the best National Park in the country in 2018, and also the Yorkshire Dales and the coast, all with a plethora of walks. There are also national trails such as the Cleveland Way, Yorkshire Wolds Way, and the Lyke Wake Walk, a challenging route of over 40 miles across the Yorkshire Moors to the coast which has to be completed in under 24 hours. There are some excellent tea rooms in the area, all very popular with walkers and cyclists alike.

There are many castles, abbeys and prestigious country homes to visit, many open to the public and the most notable being Castle Howard, Beningbrough Hall and Fountains Abbey. Byland Abbey, Rievaulx Abbey, Ampleforth Abbey, Sheriff Hutton Castle (Richard III), Scarborough Castle, Harewood House, are either on the doorstep or all within a very easy drive. For the gardeners among you, Newby Hall with its famous borders is a 30 minute drive away, or alternatively Helmsley walled garden Scampston Hall, RHS Harlow Carr, Studley Royal and Fountains Abbey, with their water gardens and deer park, Stillingfleet Lodge garden, Thorpe Perrow Arboretum are all worth a visit. There are also numerous villages holding open garden events during the summer months.

We stayed at Cass Lodge for a week. We arrived to homemade shortbread and a locally baked loaf and fresh jam, which was a lovely touch. We received a warm welcome from Helen and had many good chats! The lodge was very clean and well furnished with everything you could want, a real home from home.We were perfectly placed for York, Thirsk etc and Easingwold was lovely and close to have a stroll round and have a leisurely coffee, although you would need to drive or cycle there… The hot tub was lovely, so relaxing looking over the open fields. We would love to go back.

Best Cottage we have ever had. Everything you need is in the cottage and all the best quality. Helen is an excellent host - very helpful - nothing is too much trouble for her. The Hot Tub is definitely a bonus - star gazing at its best. Would recommend this to everyone who wants a quiet week - away from the stresses of their day-to-day lives. WiFi erratic - but it makes you leave the world behind for a few days. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

I would definitely stay at Cass Lodge again. With everything going on it felt safe and clean, it was great to have your own space and the setting is so peaceful. It was lovely to watch the sheep and chickens, and have a little cuddle with TJ the cat. The hosts are really friendly and accessible but still give you complete privacy. There were plenty of places to visit and things to do, we had to decide what we really wanted to do in a week. There were some lovely local pubs, go hungry because they do not skimp on portions. We had a perfect stay at Cass Lodge.
We had a perfect stay at Cass Lodge.
We had a perfect stay at Cass Lodge. Just what we needed; a quiet, countryside retreat with all the comforts of home. Helen was a most welcoming host with brilliant suggestions for cycling and seeing the local area. The garden was secluded and peaceful (apart from the birds, occasional bat and sounds of the countryside). The only slight issue was the intermittent WiFi (the kids missed this the most, but we all probably benefitted from switching off for the week!). Plenty to keep busy for the week; Howardian hills, cycling, Fountains Abbey and even a day trip to the seaside! A private hot tub in the garden really was the cherry on top. Thoroughly recommend!
