The Nordic Nook - 3 bedroom house plus double sofabed

It was very a comfortable stay, beds were very comfortable, everyone slept really well. Bedrooms were a good size. Living room and kitchen/diner were very neat and clean. We loved the viking themed decor. Very nice layout. Overall house was nice and cosy and incredibly warm. Neat, tidy and secure garden. Good off road parking and in a good location.

There were a few points, but the stay was still very good and comfortable. Had messaged about not being able to find remote control for tv but had no response. Not a major issue, it was more the lack of a reply. Interior door knobs are quite loose along with shower riser rail. The latter especially may need attending to, as wouldn’t want that coming off in the shower. Bathroom could also do with extraction. Brown patches on ceiling in one bedroom from a past damp issue, which was noted by another reviewer. There was emphasis on being quiet to talk at a low level, not bang doors and not gather in the garden between 10pm and 9am as neighbourhood a quiet zone. We’re not a noisy family anyway, but this made it not quite as relaxing as wasn’t sure if normal household noises would be deemed too loud, but then the neighbours were gathering in garden at 8am and using a Stihl saw (approx 120-130 decibels) alongside drills at 8:23am, which was within the stated quiet zone times. On packing up when leaving property, we resorted to propping back door, as it would shut behind us with a thud.

Enjoyed the size/ amenities provided, lovely little house, accessing it was easy lockbox and instructions clear.

Certain damages/chips to the property like the bedroom ceiling, damaged paint - perhaps stuff that is maybe just a bit dated, but wasn’t presented in the photos or mentioned. It didn’t affect our stay, however it was noticed.

The house was easy to locate, easy access, spacious parking spots!

Great location for getting in and out of York and nice neighbourhood. The shower was good and the blinds were useful in keeping the house cool in the hot weather. Good Wi-Fi and plenty of towels.

Unfortunately the house is in need of a deep clean and some TLC in lots of areas. There was an overflowing bin outside when we arrived, along with an unkempt and overgrown front (and back) garden which didn’t give the best first impression, plus a dirty oven tray in the kitchen when we got inside and started to want to cook a meal on the first evening. There was limited cutlery and utensils ( no colander at all) and most of the pans non stick surfaces were severely scratched. A welcome pack would have been nice as this was in the photos when booking but this was not provided. Also, some instructions for the house would have been useful at times ( we’ve had this in all other places we have stayed), especially when knowing where to put recycling etc and useful info about the area. Carpets were frayed and poorly fitted as well as some of the furniture having seen better days which added to a feeling that the house hasn’t been well looked after. Upstairs in the back bedroom there was a stain on the ceiling where there must have been a leak in the roof, some damp patches and the curtain pole was coming off the wall. We were under the impression that the back garden was secure for dogs but one of the days our dog managed to get out and we found her wandering in next doors garden as she’d got through a hole in the hedge. Some of the pillows on the beds didn’t have any pillowcases on them at all which we only realised on the last night, blankets on the sofa in the living room had a musty smell and obviously hadn’t been washed. We aren’t in the habit of complaining about places weve stayed ( this is the first time we’ve ever done it) but felt we had to leave a review so others are aware that the photos on the listing don’t reflect the property in real life - such a shame as I’m sure the house could be fabulous if repairs and proper maintenance / cleaning were carried out plus a little more thought to what people staying might need.
