Dunvegan Castle Keepers Cottage

Everything about the property, location, layout and amenities were lovely. The complimentary wine, homemade shortbread, excellent coffee and milk was lovely. The beds were soooooo comfortable!

It was the utilities we found difficult. The detailed explanations left out the simpler instruction, obvious to a local - not so much for another culture. Each one required a learning curve which mostly, with concentrated effort we surmounted. Except the oven. That totally defeated us. And while I realize the house is stone and therefore the walls aren’t easily penetrated for shelving, forcing elderly guests to place toiletries on the floor while showering wasn’t practical. A chair, or a stool in the bath would have helped a lot. Also the bath, while lovely to look at, was completely out of bounds without the balance and agility of a gazelle. There was nothing to grip when climbing in or out of that lovely deep soaking tub. So it remained an ornamental tease. Then there was the master shower itself. The drain…didn’t. It flooded the floor requiring an hour of bailing - not the relaxing experience we were looking for. Finally, given the price, I was surprised by the requirement to strip the beds. Again, not always an easy task for the elderly, and not usually expected in luxury accommodations.

This location is beyond my expectations! The view from the kitchen window is stunning. The location is quiet and gives a real feel to what it was like to live in the castle.

There was nothing that I did not like about this location.

I sent an email, asking about the wood for the fireplace or where to buy more and never got a response.
