Lovely stay

The hotel has a homely feel, we was welcomed by the host who was very helpful and made you feel like you was at home In the hotel which was perfect for me travelling as a single parent.It is situated right next to everything I was initially concerned there may be noise when trying to sleep but this wasnt the case at all, there is a lovely little balcony terrace to sit on, and the breakfast lovely, my 6 year old said it was the best breakfast he'd ever had 😁

Everything was great, lovely staff, very clean and excellent location. Fabulous breakfast with delicious fresh fruit. Fresh milk in the mini fridge for a proper cuppa! Really liked the honesty bar options too.

First Class Host - Needs Blackout Curtains for Sea-Facing Rooms

Host Emma was First Class. Great breakfast. Close to amenities.

Sea-facing room had very thin curtains and sun made the room extremely bright from 05.00. Needs blackout blinds or liners.

Do not hesitate to book this hotel - you won't regret it!!

Emma met us at the door and it was apparent from the start we had made the right decision to book The Laurels for our weekend stay! We immediately felt welcomed and after a short chat, we were showing to our room and had several bits explained! After a while and a further chit-chat, we were left to unpack and find somewhere to eat out! Our room had a King size bed which was extremely comfortable and we both had a great nights sleep! Location of the hotel - right on the sea front, but a few hundred yards from the city centre - meant it was close enough to get to the attractions, but also extremely quiet and peaceful. We booked the breakfast for our first morning and it was fantastic!! Loads of options from fruit in a bowl, cereal, fresh juice and a full English (cooked to order) and Continental available, Because we enjoyed it so much, we booked it for the next morning as well!! :D The hotel has 3 to 4 places for parking, but its up in the air if you can get a place. There is parking on the road free for 2 hours during the day, but from 6pm to (essentially) 10am it is free ----- free from 6pm to 8am but you get 2 hours free from 8am to 10am!! :) If you can't get outside, there is long term parking just over the other side of the boating lake free for overnight and a short walk back past Starbucks to the hotel.

Water pressure in the bathroom can get low, but that is mentioned on a note in the bathroom!! The only issue we had was squeaky floorboards, so walking over them was noisy (hope it didn't upset the other guests below us)!! :)

The property was very clean and comfortable home from home. Emma is an amazing person so friendly and can’t do enough for you.

There were some homeless people that were sleeping in the trees across the street which appeared to be consumed by drugs and alcohol which were rather noisy on a night so couldn’t keep the windows open. Unfortunately this wasn’t the owners fault at all and when we mentioned it at breakfast Emma did say we should have woke her up and she would have called the police. We didn’t like to wake her up as she so busy running around after her guests making us all feel like family, and once we mentioned this the homeless people had moved on. So not sure if Emma had mentioned this to the police.

Emma was SO friendly and helpful; the vibe was really lovely; the room was comfortable, clean and nice; the breakfast was great; it was just generally fab! The honesty bar was really well stocked, reasonably priced and convenient.

Step free access and getting around with a child weren’t ideal, but I’m not sure how much they could do about it?

On the whole pleasant.

Staff, breakfast, location all excellent.

Room had separate toilet and separate shower within the room. There is no handbasin in the room with the toilet in, which we didn't like. Car parking is very limited to a few spaces behind the property which we never got to see. There is parking on opposite side of road but if you arrive during the day good luck on getting a space !
