Location is good if you are willing to put other things aside.

Good location a short walk to the clocktower. A double bed and single bed in the room.

The shower and toilet room is something that could do with improving, you can tell it's a cheaply done job, not a very clean room.

Lovely relaxing retreat after busy days on the beach

Very friendly and welcoming staff, always willing to go the extra mile for you. Breakfast was great, tasty and cooked very well. Location for the beach was fantastic as well as a short walk to the supermarkets. Free Parking and lovely little mini shop at reception.

Not the hotel's or staff's fault, I had chosen the wrong room type as I need twin beds not a double, the hotel were able to change the room as it was booked through booking.com, but booking.com advised to speak to the hotel staff, I was stuck in the middle with no resolution, so just had to suffer my daughters snoring and squirming for dominance of the bedding.

Order breakfast at the hotel the night before if you want it, was a very quiet hotel, and quiet place which was lovely if you dont want something lively and loud all night.

Extremely enjoyable and very relaxing.

The location was fantastic. The hosts were brilliant. They even took me to the local medical centre when my daughter fell ill. The breakfast was amazing too.

Stuffy rooms, not really clean. One of our rooms had cups for tea, the second one didn't. . Bottom bedsheets on one of the beds had stains

Great Little Family Run B&B!

We booked The Monsell as we were attending Skeggy's Ska / Reggae Festival and it's location was perfect for all the venues we wanted to attend. Staying with Chrissy and Brett was an absolute pleasure. They are very kind and attentive. Even calling us before our stay to ask if we needed the room on the lower floor as access to the other floors were by stairs only. Breakfast was pre ordered the day before and freshly cooked the following morning. Substantial portions! Nicely cooked. (My hubby was disappointed because there was no black pudding - but that's nothing new! 😊) Our room (#1) was clean and large. Plenty of tea / coffee / milk. The bed was a dream! Very comfy. In need of some TLC but absolutely fine for the 3 nights we stayed.

I have given a rating of 4 simply because The Monsell is in need a little bit of an uplift ... but what Chrissy and Brett provide is worth every penny. We will definitely stay again.

Nice clean room smells amazing .. very spacious beds was so comfy shower was lush

We never really saw the hosts altho they did message to ask if all was ok, a dog was barking all the time but thats not the property fault and the bathroom didn't have a lock on it but these are all minor bits and wouldnt stop us coming again

Great value with parking. Lovely little hotel.

We paid £50 for two people on a twin room for one night. Hotel is perfectly situated with off street parking, staff are so helpful. Room was cosy, beds soooooo comfy and clean bathroom. What more can you ask. Would defo return and recommend.

Monsell Hotel - Monstrosity

Location, not far from town or train station

No interaction with staff at all apart from checking in when we was just given the key Needed a deep clean especially the bathroom, absolutely vile toilet brush that should have come with a public health warning, covered in bits of excrement and toilet roll Overall grimy and grubby, Bedding did not smell fresh at all, pillows smelt stale Funny, unclean smell in room Mattress very well worn Walls paper thin, literally heard everything, no sleep at all, felt like the man next door snoring was asleep in the bed with us all night No help from owners all night, didn't even know if they were on sight, went down to complain about noise greeted to a chalkboard on reception where owners numbers were smudged off. Pressed the bell no one appeared, literally googling hotels at 12am at night with a tired, distressed 5 year old Do not recommend for families at all, felt on edge and uneasy

The plumbing for the room above runs through the family room we stayed in and after being woken up by loud drunk guests

Location is great, not on the strip but close enough to walk to and close to the train station too,owners were lovely

Some of the room needs updating, tv, kettle, lamp didn’t work. A little table would have been so helpful for meal times. Plumbing for room above needs addressing as very loud in the room

Brilliant value and lovely owners, we'lldefinitelly return. Bathroom just needs a scrub.

Really friendly and helpful, really good location and beds were comfortable. Bedroom was clean, comfortable and decent size for the 3 of us. We would happily return here.

Shower is a bit tempermental - we had to tighten it up. Also got some mould coming through in the bathroom (not a huge amount but something to keep an eye on so it doesn't get worse). Also the handle on the toilet is faulty. Still worked fine though.
