The main area hall is fantastic with the fire and the great seating. The welcome was easy and professional with the free shuttle to the train station, a free bus pass was given for the duration of the stay and even a voucher for a free drink at the hotel bar. The room was comfortable, spacious and clean (maybe a tad old fashion). The breakfast was really good and there were enough tables for everyone. And finally, the must-see is the wellness area which is awesome! The infrastructure is varied, comfortable and of high-end quality! The sauna and the pool are especially nice (the gym looked brand new too). The service was fantastic, very accommodating. The restaurant Adlerstube was really nice as well with good service and a very nice fondue. Also, the hotel is perfectly located in front of a ski lift and at the bus stop leading to the other lifts.
Nothing really, simply the "romantic package" that I took in extra was not worth the 30chf... 2 folded towels, the duvets folded in a heart and chocolates.

Great location! Staff was very helpful! The lobby area was very inviting with a great fireplace and comfortable rocking chairs in front of it for a cozy place to sit! The location is fantastic! The staff was incredibly helpful. The lobby area is inviting, featuring a beautiful fireplace and comfortable rocking chairs in front of it, creating a cozy spot to relax.
We’ll definitely return and love the place, but some of the furnishings and rooms seem a bit outdated and could use some remodeling. It did seem as though remodeling has begun so maybe by the next time we go back all the rooms will have been completed 😊

The bedding wasn’t that comfortable.

Breakfast was a very good buffet (scrambled eggs were the best ever according to our 16 year old). Location was pretty good, walkable to most things, and the bus stop to the major ski area (Grindelwald itself had little snow so we took the bus to the much larger Maennlichen and Kleine Shceidegg mountains via the Grindelwald terminal). Bus vouchers were provided by the hotel and the ride was about 20 minutes. The lounge/lobby area was spacious and roomy with a nice ambiance, central fireplace and attentive bar staff which was a great place to chill after skiing and before dinner. It was a holiday week but there was still plenty of space and multiple families playing games and chatting.
Room temperature was a little high and couldn't be reduced to a level for our personal comfort - felt a little dry and stuffy, which turns out is how most Swiss/European hotel rooms are.

Very central to all amenities, staff were very friendly and helpful, breakfast was great.
The hotel was very hot which made sleeping uncomfortable, the heating runs on one system so you are unable to adjust the temperature of the room.

We had the most perfect stay at the Sunstar Hotel & Spa. The entire staff was very friendly & helpful and our room was spacious with a spectacular balcony view. We especially appreciated the attention to detail in even the smallest gesture of comfort & convenience. The breakfast buffet provides something for everyone and the croissants with fresh butter & homemade jam were to die for.
Its location is an easy 8-10 minute walk to the train station and transportation to & from the hotel upon arrival & departure was available. Gondolas to First (highly recommended) are available right across the street.
After long days, we pampered ourselves in the spa facilities which included an indoor pool, 2 steam rooms, dry sauna, Kneipp foot baths with rock bottoms that provide hydrotherapy for your feet (highly recommended!), and relaxation areas with beautiful mountain views. Massage therapy is also available by appointment.
Only one complaint… After having been traveling for 8 days, we wanted to use the laundry facilities. We were given a key card that gives you access to a laundry room with one washer & dryer. We did 2 loads back to back, using both washer & dryer which took a total of 2 hours to run each cycle. We were charged 40 CHF, equivalent to about $50 to run 2 small loads.

Location and spa are superb. Great breakfast choices. Comfortable lounge.
This is basically a large hotel catering for tour groups. Impersonal, always noisy, selfish behaviours. Not the hotels fault but the waste of food we saw at breakfast was obscene.

The view
I recently stayed at this hotel and overall had a decent experience, but there were a few disappointing aspects.
First, the pillow was extremely uncomfortable, and unfortunately, the hotel only provides this one type — no alternatives were available. It really affected the quality of my sleep.
Second, I had specifically booked a room with a large bed, but when I arrived, I was told the hotel doesn’t actually have a proper large bed. Instead, they placed two single beds next to each other, which left a noticeable and uncomfortable gap in the middle.
Considering these issues, I don’t believe the stay was worth the amount I paid.

The breakfast was exceptional! The minibar was stocked twice for us for no charge! The room came with a free bus pass to get around Grindlewald and a discountoff many other attractions! The view was gorgeous. We entirely planned to use the spa, but never did due to spending too much time on top of mountains by using the cable car systems around town.
No AC! Luckily we had a balconey room so we were able to open the doors to get a breeze. There was a fan in the room that we definitely used! My husband hated the pillow, but I folded it in half and slept fine on it.

the location was great: surrounded by charming little shops, restaurants and close to the bus stops which was very convenient. The room was clean and i appreciated the complimentary mini bar on the first day. The mountain view was stunning. Breakfast was another big plus with plenty of options and variety especially as a vegetarian. The staff were super friendly and helpful.
The only downsides were the flat pillows at first, though the staff quickly brought us extra ones when we asked which was great. A bit of an unpleasant odor during the last day or two, no idea where that came from.

An idealistic location, in front of either mountain! Gorgeous backyard facing the mountain, excellent breakfast, upgraded bathrooms.
The beds were old and not very comfortable. Overall rooms felt old and not comfortable for the expensive price I paid. And there were no ac’s to help in the hot weather.

This is a luxury hotel up to our standards, it is beautiful. The spa is excellent.
The only thing missing is AC in the rooms.

Nice view and location . The hotel located just cross the street to the cable station to first mountain . And the dining area towards the Eiger mountain.
No Asian style breakfast . There are many Asian travellers stays in this hotel, I hope there are some Asian style morning breakfast in the future .

Location
The front desk personnel did not like the fact that I booked through booking.com with a better price than what was offered by her. She tried to be smart by offering me an upgrade to have the room right away and even then the price she offered was much higher than online. She then explained that she gave me a price for 2 nights even though it is showing with her my booking was for one night only. I asked for the porter to help with the luggage and told her I will be by the car. No one came and I picked them up myself. When she saw she was just telling the porter who offered to help but I told him no need at this moment. (He did help me in checking out no thanks to her )
Her supervisor did not seem to care. As all the messages between me and them in booking site did not include any comforting words.
To sum it up.

Great location right opposite grindelwald first and located right next to several good eating spots and ice cream shacks.
The staff were so friendly, Dawt on reception and Yev in the spa are an absolute credit to this hotel, I hope you all get to encounter their customer service :)
Room view was incredible and the room immaculate, they even laid out a bed and some treats for our dog which was super cute and such a nice touch.

breakfast room had a beautiful view & the food was delicious. The best part was sitting on the lounge chairs in a robe after a long hike, just looking at the snow capped mountains. Heavenly!!
it was a bit frustrating that we couldn't drink our water in the lobby- no outside food or drinks allowed...

Excellent location, friendly front desk.
The hotel could use some renovation, the sofa bed is very uncomfortable and the spring is old, keep making noise once you move. No AC in the room, you also can’t keep the windows open because there’s flies and bugs keep getting inside.

The staff at the lobby bar is terrible rude. Impatient, bias, arrogant.

Free arrival/departure pick up at/to the train station that needs to tell the hotel in advance.
Food of the breakfast but not a service.
Stay away! It is a hotel for a group tour. Too many guests. Too few staff.
Hotel staff are way below standard for a 4-star hotel. They do not have a service mind at all.
I asked a male staff member at the reception 2 questions about how to book the departure service to train station and to deposit our luggage at hotel before departure. He said "too many question " with an angry face just like we have stepped on his feet!
Also the male staff at the bar. The menu is not in English so I asked what do you have to eat with the beer we just ordered. He said "what do you want?" and point at the menu for me to read. I say "can i have an English Menu please". He said, "Look at the menu!" WHICH IS NOT AN ENGLISH!
The spa also closed before the stated operation time.
The first picture of this hotel is also not true. It does not have a modern sofa on a terrace with a wide angle view of the mountain like this
Such a bad experience with this hotel.

Grindelwald is quite small town, our hotel is a bit further from the train stop but still at a very good location with cafes and near to the cable car station up to First Mountain. Breakfast was excellent, more American kind of breakfast which is great. We got a room with Eiger Mountain view which is a stunning view. Their room service is superb, I requested for extra pillow and it came in less than 5 minutes. Everything in Switzerland is very expensive and we have expected more paying quite a lot for a 4 star hotel but the room is quite basic like a cabin hotel room. Love the double sink. We also requested for a late checkout at 12pm instead of 11am. The hotel staff was kind enough to let us store our luggage after checking out and use the hotel facilities.
The showerhead cannot stay up, I would have expected a rain shower facilities for a 4 star hotel. The receptionists can get quite flustered when there are few guests waiting at the receptionist and seems scrambling around but check-in & check-out for us is quite prompt.
