Being Muslim I chose Hyatt as it is touted as halaal certified. The reality is far removed from that. My understanding of a halaal establishment is the strict absence of alcohol on the premises. Hyatt has a bar and serves alcohol on request with lunch and supper. This does not quite align with my religious beliefs and had I known about this I would not have booked a stay here. I would classify Hyatt as halaal friendly. Having said that the reception and foyer decor is beautiful with plenty of opulent chairs and couches to relax in. The views are amazing and it's close proximity to Bo Kaap makes it an ideal accommodation for tourists. The rooms are adequate and the bathrooms are luxurious. The breakfast was unphenomenal if not downright mediocre. The sweet treat station was shocking. Cold flapjacks and cold waffle squares. Bad scones and a rather sad assortment of muffins. All in all most unappealing. The staff however were pleasant, affable and eager to please. Alicia, one of the waitresses was attentive and very efficient. The Hyatt isn't bad but one has certain expectations of a five star establishment and having traveled extensively I can honestly say this Hyatt falls short of the internationa five starl standard.
