Bužinel Estate

The rolling hills of grape vines and olive trees were marvelous to see from the pool on a hot summer day. Exploring the nearby towns was an absolute delight and the breakfast was so delicious that I wanted to rush through the day just to get to breakfast again the next morning!

The pool area could use an umbrella or two to increase the shade areas during the worst hot afternoons. The setting was stunning, but when it was very hot, everyone was trying to make use of the limited shaded area which made it less relaxing if many people were trying to use the pool area. Fortunately this rarely happened as everyone spent time out touring the region and we frequently had the entire pool area to ourselves.

Room was nice, clean, good shower. Pool area with view was lovely, staff were friendly, restaurant was excellent. Breakfast is at their partner restaurant 800 metres up the road - it was nice to see the other accommodation too.

Decent views

I stayed here during a birthday weekend after spending several days hiking around Lake Bled. I booked this property because of the overwhelmingly positive reviews and was really looking forward to relaxing and unwinding. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from start to finish. The employee who checked me in was rude and dismissive from the moment I arrived. When he showed me the room, I realized it had two separate twin beds instead of one bed. I understood this may have been a Booking.com issue, but when I politely asked if there was any possibility of switching rooms, even to one without a view, he acted irritated and uninterested in helping. He told me he would check, then ignored me for nearly 20 minutes. When I finally found him again, he simply said there was “nothing they could do” unless I paid an additional €95 per night. The entire interaction felt cold and unprofessional. Things only got worse when he recommended a winery/restaurant that required a 15+ minute walk along a narrow, busy road with cars flying around blind corners. It genuinely felt unsafe, and I had to repeatedly move out of the way of traffic. The restaurant itself was average at best and extremely overpriced. Back at the hotel, dinner was another disappointment. The pasta was undercooked and bland, which was surprising given the location so close to Italy. Service was also poor. One of the waiters seemed stressed and overwhelmed throughout the evening. When I mentioned I was celebrating a birthday and asked if they did anything small for celebrations, such as a dessert or a shot, he abruptly responded, “Yeah, okay. We don’t,” and walked away. The interaction felt unnecessarily rude and awkward. Overall, the stay was a huge letdown and ended an otherwise amazing trip to Slovenia on a negative note. The property itself may look beautiful online, but hospitality matters, and the service here fell far below expectations.
