Comfortable and cozy

We have stayed here a few times now. We stay in room 5 which was very comfortable. You now access the property with a key code, there isn’t anyone on site all the time but they send a WhatsApp message and I contacted them and received an instant response. Breakfast is continental. If you want cooked I think you need to order ahead and pay extra so that’s worth remembering. Quiet room. Lovely shower, literally 5 mins from the top of town so perfect location

If they moved the tables so you could use the lounge in the evening if needed

Period property in central location

Location was excellent. Communication was excellent. Parking was easy . Breakfast was well thought out

There is no ‘street parking’ outside the property or near to the property. Parking opposite is £10 per day! Room could do with some TLC including a fresh coat of paint and upgrade the furniture!

Home Away from Home 💞

This guesthouse felt like a home away from home. Warm, cosy, and exceptionally clean, with hosts who are genuinely kind and attentive. Communication was excellent from start to finish, making everything feel easy and relaxed. Highly recommended

The breakfast was ok. Coffee was very good and it was plentiful. When the proprietor appeared, she was friendly and very helpful with directions. The room was spotlessly clean, warm and comfortable.

The email I received shortly prior to my stay stated that the guest house was trying a system of self-check-in. I did not like this at all. I had to enter a code to gain access to the building. As I was in Cheltenham for a family party in the afternoon, this was after dark. I then had to enter a separate code to obtain my room key from a key safe. I did not encounter any fellow guests but I still didn't feel very safe. With absolutely no human interaction - for example, no reception process - how would anybody know if a fellow guest turned up behaving in an anti-social or aggressive manner through alcohol or drugs? If this is being, "Tried", I would suggest that it should be reconsidered.

Portland Experience

Location is good close to Cheltenham town centre. The bed was comfortable and check in was easy.

Breakfast is limited and not that fresh. You can pay extra for hot food but I don't think it's worth paying £10 per person,. When you can go to the pub and pay less £4.00 for coffee and full English at the Bank House pub. Rotten window frames in room 7 need refurbishment.

Wonderful little guest house

Excellent location, just a stones throw from the centre of town and with provided parking making the stay an absolute breeze! Breakfast was plentiful and just right with a selection of cereals, fruits and jams and spreads for toast.

Breakfast was a bit pointless. Was very cheap but wasn’t really worth having. Room would be better used as a nice lounge area.

We were able to self check in early. This was easy and great to enable us to leave our belongings somewhere safe

Pillows need to be changed although clean bedding it was clear the pillows needed to be replaced No mirror in the main room.. fortunately I didn’t need to dry my hair but would have been difficult otherwise.

Awful

Location was good and we liked the fact they employed with educational needs

Unfortunately, the young staff were left unsupervised and without supervision. They tried their best, but our rooms were not cleaned, bins not emptied, cups not washed. This is a guesthouse not an Airbnb. We were told a continental breakfast included toast. Nooo. The same panna chocolate was offered 2 days on the trot, the fruit was not fresh, and there was no coffee on the second day. Table clothes dirty and those that ordered a cooked breakfast, left without even having toast

Location was great and the small bathroom worked really well.

Basement was a little chilly and central heating not turned on yet. Bed/mattress was a bit basic. Misunderstanding on what constitutes a free breakfast. I expected cooked but hotel said continental only. Extra £10 for cooked. I probably would not have stayed if I’d known. No free parking

Great night stay during our Cotswold Way Walk!

We stayed here for 1 night during our walk on the Cotswold Way. The trail does not pass thru Cheltenham, so we hopped off near Dunkertons, where we enjoyed cider & an early dinner. From there, we took an Uber to the Portland Guesthouse. Upon our arrival, we were warmly greeted and shown to our clean, cosy, & very comfortable room. After a great night's sleep, we enjoyed a delicious cooked-to-order full English breakfast before our Uber picked us up to drop us back at the trail to continue our journey. We highly recommend the Portland Guesthouse!

Disappointing

Staff were friendly

Basement room next to laundry so quite noisy. Room needed a thorough clean - there were stains on the carpet, the mugs provided for drinks were filthy, the shower was dirty and grimy. Breakfast was poor and I decided to have breakfast out after the first morning. For the price I expected a lot more.

Location good.

Room was not clean, used tissues under the bed, sink unclean, bedroom furniture dated, mattress very uncomfortable, very little storage, bedside table very small, lamps pre 1990's, rug, filthy, bathroom towels hard. Breafast was basic, cheap cereal choice of 3, yoghurt greek only, fruit old, croissants, not fresh. Very dissapointed.

Always double check your booking

Owner is very friendly and welcoming. Room seemed smaller than what we felt we had booked, going by the photos of the rooms. Top floor, luckily we are fit and healthy and it was no problem. Worth checking if you have mobility issues or dodgy knees. Shower good.

There was a misunderstanding about the breakfast and our booking stated we had breakfast included. It seemed it was continental, however I have no recall of ticking any choices of breakfast on any forms. Parking was good, we got a space quite nearby.

An elegant guest house in a lovely town.

We loved the spacious and elegantly decorated rooms. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom had a shower with good pressure and plenty of hot water for a relaxing end of day shower. The continental breakfast was also a nice addition. Sharn the manager was also friendly and allowed us to book in a little ahead of time, which was kind of her and greatly appreciated.

The windows at the front of the building where our room was, did not appear to have double glazing. This was a concern to us as we thought it might be very noisy making sleeping difficult. However, the traffic reduced significantly after rush hour and proved to be less of a concern than we had imagined. So in essence, everything was really very nice.
