Central location I was greeted and shown to my room & everything explained.. times of breakfast etc. which was lovely

Pillows need to be changed although clean bedding it was clear the pillows needed to be replaced No mirror in the main room.. fortunately I didn’t need to dry my hair but would have been difficult otherwise.

Location was good and we liked the fact they employed with educational needs

Unfortunately, the young staff were left unsupervised and without supervision. They tried their best, but our rooms were not cleaned, bins not emptied, cups not washed. This is a guesthouse not an Airbnb. We were told a continental breakfast included toast. Nooo. The same panna chocolate was offered 2 days on the trot, the fruit was not fresh, and there was no coffee on the second day. Table clothes dirty and those that ordered a cooked breakfast, left without even having toast

Location was great and the small bathroom worked really well.

Basement was a little chilly and central heating not turned on yet. Bed/mattress was a bit basic. Misunderstanding on what constitutes a free breakfast. I expected cooked but hotel said continental only. Extra £10 for cooked. I probably would not have stayed if I’d known. No free parking

The bed was very comfortable and the shower was excellent. The room was a good size and was furnished in a style that fitted in with the property. Staff were friendly. The breakfast was adequate.

Great night stay during our Cotswold Way Walk!

We stayed here for 1 night during our walk on the Cotswold Way. The trail does not pass thru Cheltenham, so we hopped off near Dunkertons, where we enjoyed cider & an early dinner. From there, we took an Uber to the Portland Guesthouse. Upon our arrival, we were warmly greeted and shown to our clean, cosy, & very comfortable room. After a great night's sleep, we enjoyed a delicious cooked-to-order full English breakfast before our Uber picked us up to drop us back at the trail to continue our journey. We highly recommend the Portland Guesthouse!

Disappointing

Staff were friendly

Basement room next to laundry so quite noisy. Room needed a thorough clean - there were stains on the carpet, the mugs provided for drinks were filthy, the shower was dirty and grimy. Breakfast was poor and I decided to have breakfast out after the first morning. For the price I expected a lot more.

The breakfast was very good. The room was adequate. The staff were friendly. Parking is available - across the road, at a price. Cheaper street parking 250 metres away.

Location good.

Room was not clean, used tissues under the bed, sink unclean, bedroom furniture dated, mattress very uncomfortable, very little storage, bedside table very small, lamps pre 1990's, rug, filthy, bathroom towels hard. Breafast was basic, cheap cereal choice of 3, yoghurt greek only, fruit old, croissants, not fresh. Very dissapointed.

Always double check your booking

Owner is very friendly and welcoming. Room seemed smaller than what we felt we had booked, going by the photos of the rooms. Top floor, luckily we are fit and healthy and it was no problem. Worth checking if you have mobility issues or dodgy knees. Shower good.

There was a misunderstanding about the breakfast and our booking stated we had breakfast included. It seemed it was continental, however I have no recall of ticking any choices of breakfast on any forms. Parking was good, we got a space quite nearby.

An elegant guest house in a lovely town.

We loved the spacious and elegantly decorated rooms. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom had a shower with good pressure and plenty of hot water for a relaxing end of day shower. The continental breakfast was also a nice addition. Sharn the manager was also friendly and allowed us to book in a little ahead of time, which was kind of her and greatly appreciated.

The windows at the front of the building where our room was, did not appear to have double glazing. This was a concern to us as we thought it might be very noisy making sleeping difficult. However, the traffic reduced significantly after rush hour and proved to be less of a concern than we had imagined. So in essence, everything was really very nice.

I really liked the room, felt very homely and enough space for my things. The breakfast was really nice with a good choice. The accommodation was both close to town and close to the park

Parking. Although you can park in certain areas with the pass, it was still often a bit of a distance from the guesthouse and sometimes tight to squeeze into a space.

Handy central guesthouse

Convenient location in the centre of town, with nearby parking booked in advance via the guesthouse. Good to support a social enterprise and hopefully help young people into employment. Nicely decorated room with clean, modern bathroom.

We had a basement room, which was near the laundry room with tumble driers/washing machines going until 1am and then early again the next day, which disturbed our sleep. Cooked breakfast could be improved by serving on hot plates, was cold by the time it arrived at the table :-(

Less than expected but workable for a night

It was convenient to get to the grocery store and local shopping. Breakfast was good and the staff helpful.

The bed was not very comfortable, we were up on the top floor which made it a struggle with large luggage, although the staff were helpful.

Friendly staff. Period features. Comfy bed (but don’t expect ironed bed linen or a firm mattress). The ethos of a community project. Different to a generic hotel chain stay.

Please get rid of all the cups and plates that are chipped, both in the rooms and at breakfast. Please don’t water down the hand soap in the bathroom. Both of these points cheapen the experience considerably. The breakfast does not look like it once did in the photos. The eggs (whether scrambled or poached) were very overcooked and pale and the food was not as hot as it could have been. The coffee machine was refilled with water but used the same coffee grinds as the previous jug rather than fresh. Parking is not as close as we thought. Average cleanliness. Slow draining shower.

Vintage boutique style - dogs welcome!

The most amazing little place. I love the decor, the beds were comfy and the rooms large with everything you need. We brought a little dog and she was so welcomed (probably more than us 😂). Breakfast was great too and Roxy the dog even got bacon and eggs. Amazing place. You’d be crazy to book anywhere else.

Location was great

Having read the reviews, we booked this place but no idea why it was highly rated as this was not our experience. Staff on arrival was rude. Helen was lovely though. Breakfast could have been so much better with fresh tea and coffee etc. Curtains not fit for purpose, was woken at crack of dawn. Noisy inconsiderate people but that can’t be helped.

Charming and comfortable

It's a very charming period house. The breakfast was very good. Everything worked well and the staff very friendly. The guest house is run as a trust to give people who have had struggles in life a chance to learn skills and gain experience in hospitality.

Great position for a Cheltenham stay, but facilities require improvement.

The lady that greeted us was friendly and helpful.

Bed linen was not ironed. Shower required a good clean around doors. Window frames were rotten and one had a hole in it. Breakfast was well cooked , but there was no one about to explain where cereals, yoghurts etc were. The coffee had run out and was only replenished, after a request, with only sufficient for two cups, therefore the next guests had to make another request for more coffee. I appreciate that this hotel is a training operation, but it felt very unprofessional and dirty. Which spoilt our stay which is a shame.

Overall, really disappointing and I feel like we paid too much for what we got.

Unfortunately, I had a very disappointing stay. The room was not clean – there were multiple stains on the carpet, dirty glasses, and none of the bedside lamps worked. It was located in the basement, and we were woken up at 7:15am by loud creaking floorboards and a radio blaring from the floor above resulting in not being able to sleep. It felt like this was the worst room in the house and honestly shouldn’t be used for guests. Breakfast was also a letdown – the tables were still covered in crumbs when we sat down and hadn’t been cleaned. On top of that, I was told the bread served at breakfast was sourdough as the menu stated, but it definitely wasn’t and was cheap white bread - which felt unnecessarily dishonest. I rarely leave reviews, but given how different my experience was from the other (mostly positive) reviews, I felt I had to say something. It left me wondering if I’d been put in a room that isn’t usually rented out.
