Friendly staff, comfortable bed, quiet surroundings, excellent breakfast
The bedroom was a very small double but was fine for us.

Great location, lovely/friendly staff. Lots of hot water
Bathroom basic and a bit noisy (fan and macerating toilet).

Room was lovely, clean and comfortable. Staff were very friendly and welcoming.
Weather had turned car park very muddy and slippy. Breakfast not included

Great value for money in beautiful location. Breakfast was excellent.
Everything was good, nothing negative to say.

The room was nice and looked lovely. The pub was also excellent. Lovely food and great cider.
The pipes made loud clanging sounds a couple of times in the night.

The location for my purpose was excellent. Attending wedding reception in a location 2 minute drive from the pub.
Staff were lovely…
The breakfast. No cereals or fruit or juice. Just s main plate of full english or whatever combination. No toast and marmalade or pastries. Very poor choice and quality.
Bed not comfortable… spring interior mattress with a topper didn't disguise age of the mattress.
Also I was single traveller, so I guess I was paying for single occupancy of double room. The place was not full, think there was only one other room occupied.

Very rural really lovely staff looked after me and my team. How’s the pool table and the bowling alley. Plenty of different alcohol range nice open fire perfect little country pub in the summer I could spend a week here.
Was nice to see them make use of an older property lots of hidden doorways when residing brings you close to the inner workings of a property all well seeing the staff in action unfazed by your existence
Due to the lack of conventional modern heating, they did supply heaters for our rooms!
All in all considerably better than a lot of pubs in this position, they are making work with what they’ve got and they’re doing it well above average.
Common problem with all buildings and older establishment tend to be a little rundown could use a lick of paint and some plaster and having them steel windows refitted or at least sealed would definitely help with the heating (master bed room) also could do with some blur on the window in the bathroom. You have two choices to be seen butt naked or not seen at all.
Breakfast is very unique definitely has its own style head chef has done well with the choices if you’re looking for something a bit more at, However some elements of the meal were served either hard or cold.

Room could do with bit of attention but does go with character of vbuilding

Friendly and helpful staff. Room is very clean. Bed was comfortable and I got a good sleep. Great value for money.

Location
Rooms were very dated and tired but we booked purely for the location due to a wedding, this place has so much potential if someone were to spend money on the rooms, the food in the restaurant looked great but we didn't try.

Great veggie breakfast. Imagine would be lovely with sunshine in summer, garden looked good.
Our bathroom was next door. I would prefer to know this clearly on booking.com during booking process. I tried to query this via messenging and it was a bit hit and miss initially.

The staff were lovely and very helpful. The rooms were ready early so we could change before our wedding event and the breakfast was excellent.
No complaints at all.

The property was very old and full of character and the staff were amazing and very friendly. The locals were also very welcoming. We ate there several times and the food was fantastic and excellent value for money. They also have a great choice of local beers. I highly recommend this place.
Nothing, I loved it!

It is full of character and the staff were very friendly.
The one slight issue was the bed. I am quite large and the bed was very narrow and I fell out of it. Otherwise, I had a very enjoyable stay.

Location is fantastic for walking in the Quantock Hills. Staff and pub locals very friendly. Pub is incredibly old and has heaps of character. Bed was super comfy after a long walk in the rain and wind.
I didn't expect bathroom to be down the hall and bath hot tap wasn't working so it took ages to fill the bath. It's an old pub though so no big deal. I was a bit alarmed when I came down in the morning and found the door to the pub locked from the other side. Quickly resolved. Breakfast didn't start til 9 so I had to skip it.

Clean, beautiful and cared for

Bed was comfortable, room was spacious, tea tray was very well stocked. Heater worked well and fair sized bathroom.
First off was the extremely strong smell of weed being smoked that was coming in through our bedroom door so much so we had to put towels down to seal bottom of door to try to keep the stink out. This went on for a few hours from around 1 am and filled our room causing sleep disruption. We left in morning before anyone was about to bring this issue up to. Also the fire escape and rear entry steps are very rickety. The macerator in bathroom seemed to be leaking also.

It was an old building but it was cosy, the bed was very comfy and the room had everything we needed.
It is an old building so it’s a bit creaky, draughty in parts, but they are currently trying to fix it up.

Clean room, comfy bed and convenient to the Wedding Venue.
Had to chase the water in the shower.

Breakfast was one rasher of bacon short of being perfect. Very welcoming staff.
Bed could have been levelled, but the rustic charm of the wonky floors kind of makes the stay.

Excellent evening meal.
Spotless bed linen and towels.
Decor of room needed some attention.
Would have liked breakfast earlier than 9am. Had to leave beforehand.

For a venue under new management they are working hard to get a rate of excellent. Staff were very Friendly and extremely helpful and accommodating.
The food was delicious
The downstairs outside toilet

Customer service from every member of staff was superb - there was a plumbing issue in our room, which we were informed about prior to arrival, and staff worked really hard to find a solution and keep us informed. Location was perfect for a wedding nearby, bed very comfortable

A friendly welcome, especially for the dog. It is a 16th century coaching inn, so none of the long corridors and anonymous spaces of modern hotels. Even the staff got lost when she was showing us the fire exit path!
The shower had its moment mid evening and couldn't muster up more than a feeble trickle - but that is 16th century plumbing for you. It all sorted out by the morning.

Warm welcome, staff were lovely and nice meal and atmosphere. The beds were comfortable.
The rooms were tired and not as pictured. No headboards, curtains falling down and daylight as soon as the suns up, curtains or blinds in the bathroom would be so much better than net curtains, especially when your using the room and there are houses opposite so we could not use the light at night!

The Carew arms is a charming, old style pub serving great food with lots of character and friendly staff
It is just down the road from a wedding venue, where we were attending a wedding so a perfect location.
It's also a brilliant location for exploring the quantocks.
The room was comfy, but the bathroom was a little tired and the shower was either scalding hot or freezing cold.
Sadly it was pretty noisy until the early hours. Although, I appreciate this is a pub, and there will be lots of noise whilst it is open, there was lots of banging and someone dropping a beer barrel in the early hours, and some rather rowdy guests returning to their rooms in the early hours. I know this isn't all within their control so can only speak for the Sunday evening on which we stayed.

The evening meal was lovely
The toilet and bath made a horrendous noise when flushing and emptying. Hope the beer and music festival went OK but the guests staying could have been shown more consideration. Many metal beer kegs arrived below our room before 7am

The location and parking
Very uncomfortable with springs pushing through the sheet
When we booked we were told for breakfast would be 10 pounds but on the day we were only given a general menu and breakfast was quite a lot more

Property was quirky and had character
Property is dated but we were advised this is due to be worked on as recently purchased

The staff we did see were friendly, fairly good sized room
Unfortunately the room was dirty, very run down, no light fixing in the bathroom, no curtain in the bathroom window so everyone could see in! The beds were very hard and uncomfortable, all the furniture was fairly old and damaged. Unfortunately it was definitely not worth £95 for one night and that doesn’t include breakfast!

Beautiful property with some lovely scenery
Although bathroom private to us it was not in the same room so had to leave the room to access
5.0 / 10.0
Location was amazing, lovely pub with lots of facilities eg indoor and outdoor games, nice garden
Good TV and tea/coffee making facilities in room
NB we stayed overnight and had breakfast but didn't eat a meal
Breakfast - food superb but neither the large £16 or standard breakfast £11 came with a tea or coffee, you had to pay extra - really?!
Overnight - old building so, rickety stairs - we enjoyed the quirkiness but for someone with mobility problems would have been extremely difficult and I don't think we were pre warned about this
Bedroom - very tired, single beds uncomfortably narrow!
Bathroom - macerator toilet and general water extremely noisy. Temperature of cold water was warm, mixer tap shower was too hot and difficult to regulate. Chip in toilet seat, lighting was dim. Really high bath to try and get into.
£90 price tag for tired rooms should have included the breakfast. Not good value for money
Note it was 'under new management's so hopefully they will make improvements and it could be a little gem.

Location was ok for our needs and having a car park was a bonus.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful.
It is a very old building so the stairs were a bit creaky and a little difficult to climb.
The toilet cistern was hard to flush and although the room was clean it was only just acceptable as paint work could do with a wipe down. Everything was old and needed replacing and renovating.
There was no milk to make a drink.
We had cod and chips which were ok but the peas were cold.
It wasn’t really our taste of somewhere to stay so unfortunately we will not return.

A lot of noise from inside the building.

Beer garden
All ok apart from foul mouthed locals who where so load all the time we were there. Also wasn't in aware the door out was locked so waited for 10 mins on stairs we used fire escape in end no mention of this when we were shown room. Think breakfast should have been included as well .

Bags of character, and that quirky staircase leant in so many different directions!
Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient.
Beer was good - it was a great bonus to find you had your own microbrewery on site.
There were no cupboards/drawers/wardrobe (not even a coathanger!) so all clean clothing had to be left on the floor - and hanging-up damp clothes to dry had to be inventive, an issue for guests who are walkers & cyclists.
Booking.com's info was unclear: only one bedroom was en-suite, the other had a separate bathroom - this is a generic issue where their term "private bathroom" is used interchangeably, and I've been caught out before.
Booking.com's info was wrong: "Breakfast costs £10 pp pn" - it was a-la-carte, where the main dishes cost £8-14 and drinks etc were extra.
