A short stay, restaurant needs improvements.

There was not a good restaurant, just a cafe type environment or meals at the bar, for such a hotel I expected much better.

Good but could be excellent!

Size of room and furnishings. Excellent breakfast. Excellent lounge facility. This is something that is becoming less common it hotels. We like a lounge rather than being confined to a bedroom.

End of October and our room was cold. The central heating was off and we were provided with an electric connector heater, which was off when we arrived. It took quite a while to warm the room. Car parking as an extra charge when already paying a good price for the accommodation.

Lovely hotel but a little tired

The staff were fabulous. Lovely old building, lovely staircase. We had a deluxe suite which was wonderful with a lovely window seat. Bed very comfy. Everywhere spotless. Breakfast was nice, lots of healthy fruit and cereals as well as hot meals.

Not enough power sockets. The lamps have plugs with old fashioned tiny sockets which are great, but they need to add a lot more modern sockets, especially by the bed. There is no magnifying mirror. The shower was extremely stiff. They sprayed it with WD40 and are fixing it after the weekend. This should have been picked up before. The breakfast/bar is not in keeping with the rest of the hotel and the reception area needs updating.

The hotel is in an excellent location and very presentable.

Was disappointed with the restaurant because we booked a table in advance of our trip only to discover the menu was not the same as on the website. We were told it had changed recently but then the hotel needs to change that on the website or notify the guests because we struggled to find an alternative place to eat. We were also surprised to discover that parking is changed at over £10 which isn't clear when booking.

Nice hotel, good location, friendly staff, needs a bit of an update.

Staff were super friendly. Location very central. The hotel is a little tired and needs upgrading. Our bathroom was very much in need of an upgrade as were the electrics in the room (more sockets /bedside USB would have been welcomed). Breakfast was fine. Overall it was a good experience and had a certain charm but the things that matter to most guests (shower/plug sockets/pillows) need a bit of investment. I’d stay again though - there was nothing bad here.

Bathroom needed an upgrade. Blue velvet armchairs in the room were straight from the 1970s which had a certain charm and would have been forgivable had they not been so uncomfortable.

A lovely place that could do with a little freshening up.

The building in itself is quite impressive as it is an old castle and the facade overgrown with wisteria is beautiful. The staff were very helpful.

The place could use some refreshing.The carpet has definitely seen better days and this impression is woven throughout the hotel.The place could be beautiful and its history would be much better showcased if it were modernised.

A hotel with plenty of character which was in a great central location.

The location of the hotel was superb - right in the middle of the town. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful where we got some excellent advice on where eat and the location of a bike shop.

Very poor! Didn’t stop for breakfast second day which was the best bit!

£10.95 a day parking. Noise from nearby nightclub until nearly 4 a.m. kept us awake. Poor service - food delivered to us in garden which had a salad and coleslaw and we were asked if ‘we wanted cutlery?’ Not sure how you eat coleslaw and salad without it??? Also I have another £15.50 pending charge on my card - not sure why and when phoned hotel they said it was probably my bank putting it through! No other explanation!

Beautiful hotel in the heart of Taunton

Fantastic hotel in the heart of Taunton. It’s got its own car park with plenty of parking. The interior takes you back to the height of glamour. My room was huge, and so comfortable. Had a lovely self service breakfast. Would love to go back and stay for longer.

The staff are exceptional and the location is excellent. I can’t wait to come back.

The restaurant allows outside groups of people to book and eat there and as such the ambience of the hotel restaurant is ruined with loud gregarious youngsters in the evening. Such a pity as breakfast is a delight and only guests seem to book.
