Excellent food, both evening meal and breakfast…(…but no beans with breakfast 🙁)
Breakfast time was between 8 and 9 am ….rather early while you are on holiday . Would be better if they could extend it , even if just by an extra half hour.

A lovely place to stay in Exmoor with friendly and welcoming staff. Loved it.

With one exception the accommodation, food, ambience and service. Caroline and Simon are the friendliest of hosts and that has unchanged throughout our numerous visits. Sad to hear they are retiring shortly but it will be for a well deserved rest.
The exception is the internet, flaky at best but hardly a major issue given all the other positives. A minor irritant.

I loved everything about our stay at Notley, but it's the little personal touches that really impressed me. The filter coffee in each room (what a pleasure), the friendly advice on where to walk, the early check-in that really helped. It is clear that the owners really care about their guests. And don't get me started on the pork belly main dish...wow. Crispy crackling, tender meat covered by a wonderful sauce and creamy mash. Yum.

We loved everything. The room, the setting, the food. Simon his wife Caroline and son Jacob (back from Uni for Christmas) were the perfect hosts. There's a wonderful local places to visit crib sheet in the rooms and Simon was happy to suggest other options. The cooked breakfast was fantastic, just the right size to set you up for the day with very good quality produce, we dined on both nights and the food was equally wonderful. The venison Ragu with linguine was a work of art and the special cottage pie was absolutely delicious.

We did not eat any breakfast. We had dinner on Christmas Eve. We both had a drink too. Mine was Bacardi and coke there was literally not a single bubble in the coke and it was warm. My husband ordered a real beer it wasn’t great!!
The bathroom needed work doing the front of the shower dial was working so no way of telling the temp. There was a very long jagged crack in the tiles by the radiator. There was a massive sofa situated under the tv . So no way of watching in comfort! We locked the door , but then my husband needed to go down to the car we could not get out! The lock was broken. The proprietor’s wife was sent to let us out! She took a good six minutes and left us with the instruction not to lock our door again! Bear in mind that I had a large amount of prescription controlled drugs in a drawer. The whole place was godforsaken! , cold draughty, the landlord was scruffy and sarky, and unkempt looking! We didn’t fancy staying so booked out. He sent us an e-mail listing a long line of lies of what he intended to do .

A great place to stay in this lovely location with the convenience of all that a pub can offer. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming. Parking is easy. A lovely small village, visit the church to see Francis Drake’s pew.

The property was very authentic and exuded old world charm and was obviously the heart of the village. It is filled with beautiful pieces of art and with individual touches, by both owners. The decorations were very festive and Caroline worked very hard to create the Christmas ambience. Our room was very spacious and the bathroom perfectly met our needs. We were given real milk instead of those horrible UHT plastic cups. The bed was really big and comfortable and the linen was fresh and crisp.
Simon and Caroline are fabulous and really look after you. They run a very comfortable but tight ship and attend to your every need. The food is yummy, fresh and kept very local and seasonal. The menu changes every day and that gives plenty of choice when staying for a few days. Our little dogs were made very welcome and treated to a sausage every morning. We felt we were with friends and will definitely be back sometime next year.

Great family run pub with amazing food. The accommodation was perfect for us and is separate to the pub itself. Room was spacious with seating as well, and the wooden floor was a bonus with our dog. Simon and Caroline are lovely and offer ideas on places to visit. Will definitely be back.

Simon & Caroline were friendly, helpful & welcoming hosts. Our choice off the menu for our evening meal was delicious, not too many dishes to choose from on the menu👍The wine menu was extensive & Simon knows his wines. A Good breakfast was served in the morning, cooked how I like it & not too much.
The linens were quality along with a comfortable bed.

Staff/owners were very friendly and helpful, breakfast was good and setting, beautiful.
Bed was very creaky, every time I moved it made noise and an extra pillow that was a bit softer would have been good.

A lovely hotel in a really fantastic setting - I was on a walking break and could not have asked for a better place to stay, Lovely towns such as Dunster and Watchett are very nearby. Simon and Carolyn were super welcoming. The hotel itself is really attractive and my room was very tasteful. It was spotlessly clean. The bar and restaurant are fantastic. Breakfast was great too!
