A comfortable hotel with a very personal touch.

Owners very welcoming. Room nicely furnished with an added bonus of a glass of sherry. Excellent breakfast cooked personally for us.

The hotel car park is only accessible through a very narrow stone archway. However there is street parking from evening onwards.

A lovely comfy stay

Excellent hotel. Very comfy and slept well. The owners were friendly and nothing was a problem for them. Breakfast was lovely and the coffee, tea etc in the rooms were of good quality with the sherry being a nice treat. Would definitely recommend and will hopefully stay here again.

Owners were pleasant and helpful.

Inappropriate room on top floor. No working radiators Had to make use of a small oil-filled radiator during Storm Claudia. Single glazed windows dripping with condensation. Poor storage facilities and hanging space. Not fit for purpose at full price!

Lovely old style pub stay.

A lovely old traditional ex pub. The owners were very accommodating and made us feel at home. The included breakfast was restaurant standard.

The driveway was an extremely tight fit! But we made it.

Amazing dog friendly getaway!

The location was great! Especially for walks with our dog and super easy access to the castle.

Road noise wasn’t great but being on a Main Street through the village it was to be expected! Would have been good to have a bigger/ brighter main bedroom light.

Super friendly with character and comfort in an incredibly scenic village.

Great location for history and hill walking. John and Lisa were super friendly hosts and very accommodating. Breakfast was included and excellent. Bed very cosy and warm and room very clean. Old hotel with lots of character.

Shower hot water control was weak. Room was above kitchen washing-up area so pretty noisy until kitchen shut down at 9. Wasn't a big deal though.

Exceptionally pleasant overnight stay.

Very friendly staff and a comfortable, warm and clean room. Positioned on the High Street, close to the Castle and local pubs. Excellent breakfast served to order. Nice touch of fresh milk supplied for tea/coffee facilities. Car park very handy as parking on the High Street is problematical. Would definitely stay there again if visiting the area.

There is no lift - no problem for us, but it might be an issue for others.

I stayed over 3 places in the area and this was hands down the best.

Staff were excellent and really welcoming - especially as I also had my son with me and they were fantastic with him too. Food both breakfast and Sunday roast were much better than other places we stayed in, around the local area - would 100% return!!

Darker room to sleep - I was on the roadside and found it too noisy with high revving cars and curtains let in way too much light (but I am used to really dark rooms).

A totally indulgent experience.

John and Lisa were perfect hosts. They offered communal guest fridge to put our own food and drink there. As there was no dinner service while we were there (as pre-advised) they offered the use of their bar and dining room facilities to bring our own drink and order in food if we wanted. Two excellent lounge areas with comfy seating and table games. The breakfast provided was excellent and cooked fresh to our requested seating time. Bedroom was sumptuously decorated and well equipped. Beautifully comfortable bed. Complimentary T&C&hot chocolate, quality biscuits AND a welcome sherry in cut glass decanter and glasses! Perfectly placed for exploring the town and surrounding area.

the only slight (very slight) negative was the omnipresent "smooth jazz" music playing throughout the communal areas during breakfast and throughout the day. It wasn't too loud though and as we spent most of our time out of the hotel, it wasn't really a problem.

beautiful village, great castle and walking, friendly staff

Fantastic location . Comfortable furniture. While there was no food that night there plenty of comfortable places to sit in the body of the hotel

we asked for a quiet room and about bringing our dog. We have an email from booking.com saying no extra charge but there was a £12 charge and we had to stay in the only dog friendly room across from the main hotel right in the front next to the road - it wasn’t too bad but neither was it quiet. The £12 charge would not have stopped us coming but I no longer feel I can trust booking.com

Brilliant mini break, even the weather was nice for October!

The room met our expectations (from accurate photos) and was very comfortable. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and thought the breakfast was exceptional. Saturday chef was a little better than Sunday :)

Dunster Castle is one of the best hotels I have stayed in, I enjoyed my and I will definitely return

This is an exceptionally good, family-run hotel. I have never previously experienced such attention to detail in relation to every aspect of the hotel. The rooms are superbly equipped, the breakfast was outstanding and the staff are friendly, polite and efficient. It was one of those rare occasions when I felt that everything was focused on the comfort of the guest.

I would stay again with great pleasure.

The room size was perfect for one person, and I had everything I needed. The shower was immediately hot, no wait needed! Breakfast was copious and delicious, the presentation was lovely. I also enjoyed a wonderful roast dinner with family. The common spaces were pleasant. Lisa and John were most gracious hosts, and I enjoyed our conversations.

I have absolutely no suggestions! Everything was well-thought-out.

A beautiful, welcoming hotel run by lovely people. We were given an "attic" room which was delightful. The linens and towels were fantastic, as were the details in the room (even down to the top-notch tea!). There are comfy seating areas on the ground floor for a spot of work or reading. Breakfast was beautifully served and delicious. One of the nicest small hotels we have stayed in - can't recommend it enough!

This is a fabulous, friendly, family run hotel. We were made to feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. Every little detail had been thought of from a tot of sherry in the room to ordering breakfast for our dog! We enjoyed the freedom of using the hotel lounge in the evening and being able to park at the hotel was a real bonus. The breakfast was absolutely excellent - one of the best we have ever had. Thank you for having us.

Breakfasts and the evening meal we had (roast dinner) was excellent. John and Linda are lovely people and willing to put themselves out to make my stay enjoyable.⁷ Anything I have scored slightly lower is only because this is not really an accessible room. But I enjoyed my stay in Dovecote room.

I'm a wheelchair user, and struggled to get into the bathroom because of a step. I couldn't access the main hotel alone because of step, but the owners provided a ramp and helped me in.

Dunster shirt break

Freindly polite service. The owners were accomadating to make our stay in Dunster a great experience. We wanted to leave the motorbike and our kit at the hotel whilst we visited the castle. This was no trouble and gave us a safe place to leave the bike off of the street. Breakfast was fantastic and served in a fine and relaxing atmosphere. The room and bed was comfortable and clean. Nice touch with some complimentary sherry in the room.

The location was amazing.

We were in a tiny attic bedroom and the bed was placed under the eaves. We kept hitting our heads. Ready for a refurb. Strange set up no food available except breakfast. Such a shame because it could have been a great place. No atmosphere, more for older people who need peace.

Excellent stay

Our room was very comfortable and spacious. We had an excellent breakfast with a wide choice of things to eat on the Menu. We had a roast dinner there on the Monday evening and this too was excellent. The Hotel is in a lovely location with free parking. The hosts Lisa and John were very welcoming.

The tunnel entrance to the Car Park at the rear is quite narrow so beware.
