The owners very exceedingly helpful, kind and went above and beyond to accommodate my intolerances. The accommodation was impressive, very clean and spacious. The food was exceptional with very attentive service from Claire. Our evening meal was a roast dinner with 7 different vegetables cooked perfectly. The breakfast was amazing. All the food was delicious and we couldn’t rate this stay highly enough. The welcome sherry was a very nice touch. We were celebrating our anniversary and the stay at the Dunster Castle just made it perfect. Thank you both.

Superb! Gorgeous cafetiere coffee, a small decanter of sherry in my room, finger shortbread in my room, beautifully decorated room and well fitted out bathroom.
Nothing of entertainment in the hotel, even though it was New Year's Eve.

The location in the village centre was great.
The lady who checked us in and brought our breakfast (the owner I believe) was kind, friendly and helpful. But the feeling my husband and I had overall was that the hotel felt a little unloved.
The rooms weren’t very clean unfortunately and the bar area, which could have been a cosy hub, was closed so there weren’t really any amenities.
Between Christmas and New Year can be an odd time of year in hospitality, but there were several guests and so it felt like a little more could have been done to give a warm and cosy atmosphere.
I am sorry to write this because the lady was so nice, but for future guests, it’s important to be honest about our experience.

What a fabulous hotel, in a beautiful position with great parking facilities. The hotel manages elegance with comfort absolutely perfectly. The staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful. We had such a warm welcome and sherry in the room was much appreciated. The carvery on Sunday was excellent as was breakfast. Our only complaint is that we were only there one night. We will definitely return. Highly recommended!

Owners very welcoming. Room nicely furnished with an added bonus of a glass of sherry. Excellent breakfast cooked personally for us.
The hotel car park is only accessible through a very narrow stone archway. However there is street parking from evening onwards.

Excellent hotel. Very comfy and slept well. The owners were friendly and nothing was a problem for them. Breakfast was lovely and the coffee, tea etc in the rooms were of good quality with the sherry being a nice treat. Would definitely recommend and will hopefully stay here again.

Owners were pleasant and helpful.
Inappropriate room on top floor.
No working radiators
Had to make use of a small oil-filled radiator during
Storm Claudia.
Single glazed windows dripping with condensation.
Poor storage facilities and hanging space.
Not fit for purpose at full price!

A lovely old traditional ex pub. The owners were very accommodating and made us feel at home. The included breakfast was restaurant standard.
The driveway was an extremely tight fit! But we made it.

The location was great! Especially for walks with our dog and super easy access to the castle.
Road noise wasn’t great but being on a Main Street through the village it was to be expected!
Would have been good to have a bigger/ brighter main bedroom light.

Great location for history and hill walking. John and Lisa were super friendly hosts and very accommodating. Breakfast was included and excellent. Bed very cosy and warm and room very clean. Old hotel with lots of character.
Shower hot water control was weak. Room was above kitchen washing-up area so pretty noisy until kitchen shut down at 9. Wasn't a big deal though.

Very friendly staff and a comfortable, warm and clean room. Positioned on the High Street, close to the Castle and local pubs. Excellent breakfast served to order. Nice touch of fresh milk supplied for tea/coffee facilities. Car park very handy as parking on the High Street is problematical. Would definitely stay there again if visiting the area.

Super friendly owners. Great location in Dunster for the castle. Room was spotless, large and comfortable.
There is no lift - no problem for us, but it might be an issue for others.

Staff were excellent and really welcoming - especially as I also had my son with me and they were fantastic with him too.
Food both breakfast and Sunday roast were much better than other places we stayed in, around the local area - would 100% return!!
Darker room to sleep - I was on the roadside and found it too noisy with high revving cars and curtains let in way too much light (but I am used to really dark rooms).

John and Lisa were perfect hosts. They offered communal guest fridge to put our own food and drink there. As there was no dinner service while we were there (as pre-advised) they offered the use of their bar and dining room facilities to bring our own drink and order in food if we wanted. Two excellent lounge areas with comfy seating and table games. The breakfast provided was excellent and cooked fresh to our requested seating time. Bedroom was sumptuously decorated and well equipped. Beautifully comfortable bed. Complimentary T&C&hot chocolate, quality biscuits AND a welcome sherry in cut glass decanter and glasses! Perfectly placed for exploring the town and surrounding area.
the only slight (very slight) negative was the omnipresent "smooth jazz" music playing throughout the communal areas during breakfast and throughout the day. It wasn't too loud though and as we spent most of our time out of the hotel, it wasn't really a problem.

Fantastic location . Comfortable furniture. While there was no food that night there plenty of comfortable places to sit in the body of the hotel
we asked for a quiet room and about bringing our dog. We have an email from booking.com saying no extra charge but there was a £12 charge and we had to stay in the only dog friendly room across from the main hotel right in the front next to the road - it wasn’t too bad but neither was it quiet. The £12 charge would not have stopped us coming but I no longer feel I can trust booking.com

The room met our expectations (from accurate photos) and was very comfortable. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and thought the breakfast was exceptional. Saturday chef was a little better than Sunday :)
Nothing, for the price we paid and combination of warm comfortable room and breakfast!

Very friendly and welcoming hosts. Great location. Super clean. Great breakfast choice.
I was aware the restaurant was not open so no surprises. It would have been nice to have a busy bar and evening meal option but there are numerous bars and food places a few minutes walk so not a big problem.

They can’t do anything about it, but just be aware that the car park entrance is very narrow & I wish the hotel served food.

This is an exceptionally good, family-run hotel. I have never previously experienced such attention to detail in relation to every aspect of the hotel. The rooms are superbly equipped, the breakfast was outstanding and the staff are friendly, polite and efficient. It was one of those rare occasions when I felt that everything was focused on the comfort of the guest.

The room size was perfect for one person, and I had everything I needed. The shower was immediately hot, no wait needed! Breakfast was copious and delicious, the presentation was lovely. I also enjoyed a wonderful roast dinner with family. The common spaces were pleasant. Lisa and John were most gracious hosts, and I enjoyed our conversations.
I have absolutely no suggestions! Everything was well-thought-out.

A beautiful, welcoming hotel run by lovely people. We were given an "attic" room which was delightful. The linens and towels were fantastic, as were the details in the room (even down to the top-notch tea!). There are comfy seating areas on the ground floor for a spot of work or reading. Breakfast was beautifully served and delicious. One of the nicest small hotels we have stayed in - can't recommend it enough!

This is a fabulous, friendly, family run hotel. We were made to feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. Every little detail had been thought of from a tot of sherry in the room to ordering breakfast for our dog! We enjoyed the freedom of using the hotel lounge in the evening and being able to park at the hotel was a real bonus. The breakfast was absolutely excellent - one of the best we have ever had. Thank you for having us.
