Food, pleasant bar staff

No room service due to covid which ended in 2021/2!!! Not enough utensils to choose breakfast items (just a egg spatula) WiFi very intermittent but I guess is due to location. Hotter water needed to make tea at breakfast downstairs. Noisy fan from kitchen ? right outside bedroom window until 9 30 pm ish.

Room was quiet (until an alarm woke everyone at 3am). Clean (but with an overpowering small of chemical cleaners, enough to trigger asthma and sneezing) Priced fairly low (although a B&B or Premier Inn at this price point would be far better)

An unreconstructed 1980s pub-with-rooms. Out of touch with modern customers: WiFi broken with no mobile signal either; and staff merely shrugged with no recognition that internet access is fundamental to our lives — we had to cancel family calls, miss work meetings and couldn’t plan our travels or read the news. Room was adequate but the shower was just a handheld sprayer that delivered a tiny trickle. No toiletries other than a wall mounted generic soap dispenser. No shower curtain. Others in our group reported rooms with no shower at all, or broken. Gloomy lighting because half the bulbs were broken: again the staff response was that it had been that way for a while, Food was plentiful but poor quality. An evening carvery was obviously popular with the locals but again was 1980s quality down to the boiled frozen carrots. Breakfast was very basic.

Staff friendly, room comfortable, good location.

Breakfast was basic: orange juice watery, limited choice, no fruit/yoghurt/muesli.

Friendly and helpful reception. Good size room with large bathroom and shower. Excellent breakfast and good choice of food and drink in the bar. Good value for money.

Rooms in the hotel or very good. The ones out the back are very basic.

This is a great looking pub in a good location for what we wanted.

The rooms are very dated, dirty and have no facilities - our room had a hanging rack across the TV! At 11pm we thought someone was trying to break in and cause someone an injury - apparently not, it’s just the kitchen team banging all the pans to clean them! Evening meals were dependent on what you wanted - pub classics such as pie and burgers were good and in good quantity - the mushroom stroganoff was awful and the curry was poor. Breakfast was also poor - the only choice was cooked.

The room was spotlessly clean and fresh and the bed comfortable. Very generous amounts of tea/coffee/milk pots. The food was absolutely fantastic. It was a very busy day for the pub/restaurant and the staff were amazing - cheerful, efficient and welcoming.

I guess as it was such a busy day the staff didn't have time to clear around the outside tables where unfortunately other customers had left litter.

The beds were kids beds. If you sat on the bed the mattress went below the bed frame, so it was not comfortable and if you are too tall your feet would hit the bottom of the bed. At breakfast I took spoons from the box and they were stuck together with food, so were not washed up properly. I was in room 2 ground floor out side the main building.

Staff on reception Rachel were lovely warm greeting. Brilliant big room with sofa clean and bed comfortable. Good food, excellent. Location peaceful

Suggestion could do with a hook on wall for shower

It was better than we expected. We loved our stay albeit brief. The standard of cleanliness was exceptional in all areas, bar, dining, reception, toilets, bedroom. We had dinner in the evening and were expecting standard pub food. We ordered scampi and were pleasantly surprised at the high standard - served quickly, food piping hot and came with everything we could want and more than we thought we would get. We chatted to couples who have visited on several previous occasions which confirms all of the above. I have already recommended to friends and hope to come back again soon.

Carpet on the stairs needs shampooing. No healthy options at breakfast. Some fresh fruit and yogurt would be good

Beautiful hotel with a real homely feel. Rooms are spacious and very comfortable. Staff are super friendly and helpful.

The WiFi connection unfortunately kept dropping out making it difficult to contact anyone as the was limited phone service without the WiFi.

Breakfast was OK but it was basic, no fruit or yoghurt as an alternative, in fact very poor choice if like me you don't eat meat

WiFi was non existent most of the time, as above the menu wasn't very good for vegan or vegetarian, maybe a bit of background music playing at breakfast time, To sum up the whole place lacked any atmosphere

Overall nice, but could be very good.

Short of staff, stopped offering food late afternoon to non-hotel guests as a result. Room ok but hardly no cold water coming out in bath, so had to wait for hot water to cool down.

Cooked Breakfast was good if you had it when freshly put out.

More selection of cereals and some fruit and yoghurt. We tended to compare it with the Inn we had come from and where there was a far better selection.

Horrendous! Avoid at all costs. Just returned from our second stay. Only went as had booked both stays at the same time. The first stay was passable but clear that management of the whole place was sketchy at best. Arrived this time to have payment demanded on arrival even though we had paid in full through booking.com and paid for upgrade at previous visit. Told we couldn't stay unless we paid again even though we proved it was paid for! Management had left bar staff with these instructions but weren't on site, which they very rarely are. Eventually got a refund minus the 'extra' they claimed we should have paid! Complete rip off as they have now taken more than the advertised price for our stay. All blamed on us when it was the hotel trying to take more from booking.com than they were due. Rooms and communal areas tired and dirty. Food overpriced for what it is. We have used booking.com for years and never had an issue so clearly the hotel that is the problem. Rooms Both rooms we stayed in were tired with filthy windows which was a shame as unable to enjoy the view. Upgrade was really not worth the money as had all the same issues eg. tap that just span round as not fitted properly, shower with very poor pressure and toilet that needed many attempts to get it to flush. The money taken is clearly not being reinvested into the hotel. The carpet on the stairs and landing is badly stained and leaves the area with an awful smell. Serious risk of cross contamination on breakfast buffet which could be dangerous for those with allergies or restricted diets due to religious or ethical beliefs. Food and drinks Food is overpriced for what it is. Over £30 for a mixed grill which is basically a glorified fry up. DO NOT risk the breakfast if you are veggie or vegan (thankfully we are not).

the location suited our touring needs. the receptionist was very good and altered our room to suit our needs.

Location was very good. The room (108) was very well presented. The bar was spacious and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent, plenty of it and constantly topped up with fresh items.the

Only a minor issue as it turns out. After using the toilet the cistern was constantly running upon further inspection the pan was close to overflowing. A few plunges with the toilet brush though resolved the issue.

Breakfast was very good.well cooked and piping hotser Served up freshly as we came down. Shower lovely and spacious It would be improved by having a grab rail fitted and also a none slip mat. The bedroom could maybe have fitted a small chair by the window side and a hair dryer would have been nice.

Breakfast fine, rooms not serviced (still have old covid roles in rooms) this means you need to remember to ask for toilet rolls, milks etc. We forgot and no staff around until 09.00
