A beautiful city with plenty to visit & lots of cafes & restaurants

Breakfast room has a lovely high aspect with views. The tables were a good size and the food was excellent.

We would have liked larger bath towels.

Great location by the sqaure. There was major construction adjacent to the hotel which at the weekend didn't bother us,however it could be noisy during the week.

We had a twin, maybe my mistake however it wasn't clear when I booked the room

Lovely stay

Good stay for 1 night, close walk to the centre of Gent

Location was great, close walk to everything in the centre of Ghent. Parking out front of the hotel. The room we had was clean and a good size for a family of 4. The spa was nice but…

The spa is their only facility to offer and they charged 15 Eu for 1 hour. Kind of ridiculous for the cost of the stay.

Well located, comfortable bed, good value for money.

It was well located, the bed was comfortable and very cute on the inside, good shower. The staff arranged a very early cab for us at 7am the next day.

There was a lot of construction in the area and I think the outside did not match the inside, like the room was better than exterior. No screens on the windows, we were eaten alive by mosquitos bc we were on the river.

Short trip to Gent

The location is brilliant for visiting the centre of Gent but also quiet so it doesn't disturb you. The shower is amazing in the room. Really comfy beds and the staff were really helpful.

The breakfast could be better in that tables weren't cleared away quickly or very well.

Be sure your room has a view

Breakfast Is expensive but good, I would probably expect something better from 4 stars hotel.

Despite being a river view hotel, a lot of rooms doesn't have ANY view. So, if you're not getting a room with a view it is just not worth the price to stay in a 3 stars room at the price of a 4 stars. Check what is included in your room, the "facilities" list is misleading, those things are not in your room. Walls are very thin, furniture is cheap and looks old. Shower towels are extremely small.

The charming Tudor-style room was spacious, clean, and well-equipped, in a convenient location near the square

The exterior of the building was quite a contrast to the room that we had. It was a full poster Tudor like room with wooden beams. It was large clean had air conditioning and fitter as well as a family. Good location quite close to the square however there was quite a bit of building work going on at the time But obviously the hotel can’t do anything about that.

It's in the old city but not overrun with Ghent Festival traffic

Air Con doesn't work. This seems to be a common European thing where the hotel doesn't turn on the cold unless the temperature is high enough.

the location was good. Althought we did take an upber from the train station. the room was very nice, but air conditioning was not working in the building. They did give us a fan a provided a free breakfast. the breakfast was wonderful. But if I had to pay for it I would have gone out for breakfsat.

Uncomfortable and disappointing

Next door was a big building site which was noisy and dusty. However far worse was the hotel having no working air conditioning in any rooms. We were given a fan but it was almost useless. Spent 2 uncomfortable nights here in a room overlooking the outer cortyard and had very little sleep due to room being hot and stuffy. We were offered free breakfasts but that was little compensation for sleepless nights. Particularly annoying is that the lack of Aircon seems to be a long term problem and there is no mention of it on their website. Never staying here again.

Disappointing and poor value for money.

Location by the river was pleasant but the next door property is currently a building site and there was a lot of noise and activity from 7 am onwards.

Air conditioning wasn’t working and we weren’t informed of this before our visit otherwise we would have gone elsewhere. It was extremely humid and stuffy in the room and although the staff provided a fan it was still too hot. We had to move rooms as one of the windows didn’t open so we lost our room upgrade. The bed was extremely hard and the bath towels were threadbare in places. The sink plug didn’t fit properly. Decor in the hotel was drab and scruffy in places.

The lack of communication and care was very disappointing.

Great location

There was NO air-conditioning and no advance information about this / prior to my stay, the hotel contacted me twice on what’s app and 5 times through your website, about checkin times and suggesting possible upgrades / but never once did they mention there was an aircon issue - I would have cancelled my booking and chosen a different hotel, if I’d known. The weather was very hot that weekend, so this was a huge problem for me. There was a hotel letter on the room desk explaining and offering a free bottle of water - but this was too little and too late. I called reception on the first night (Friday 13th June) and the man who was working on reception was very pleasant and he also apologised for the situation. I asked for a fan and he brought a pedestal fan to my room and set it up for me. This helped a little. But the room smelt very musty the whole time. No other person asked me about my stay, including the very abrupt man on reception on Sunday afternoon.

So excellent stay - but don't book a taxi is my message

Stunning location - the room looked out over the river. Loved the glass of cava on arrival Very central to the main tourist area - but quiet and undisturbed Lovely view from the breakfast room on the third floor. Excellent selection for breakfast Staff helpful and attentive

The only negative I have relates to booking a taxi to return from the hotel to the station. On the way in I picked up a taxi from the rank and the charge was 11 euros. For ease I decided to book a taxi for the return. Pick up was great on time no issues. He asked whether it would be cash or card and I replied either (rookie error). So we decided cash. On arrival at the station drop off appeared to be not quite in the right location the charge was 30 euros. I thought he said 13 at first which would have been more than fine - but no he said 30! The difference in the two rates was somewhat surprising - the signage within the taxi was the same as on the way in, so my expectation was of a similar price. This was somewhat disappointing as the taxis driver was obviously know to hotel staff.

We loved Ghent, and our hotel was in a great location. Other than that, the hotel was quite disappointing

Location

The room we were in (their only suite) was quite worn out. If was designed to have character, which we appreciate, but it was extremely old. The timber floor boards were breaking apart, squeaky with every step, and the whole floor was sloped to one side. We could also hear every footstep of the people in the room above us, because of the squeaky floors. Both the basin and the shower drains were blocked. We asked for them to be fixed on the second day, but nothing happened. We complained again on the third day, which is when the plumber came and fixed the drains. He was so nice and got us free breakfast for our last two days at the hotel. The reception also shaved off £55 from our total bill because of the inconvenience, so at least the acknowledged that. The towels were worn out too, to the point of some of them having long threads hanging off them (I wish I had taken a photo). The suite was quite dark. There were a few lamps around the room, but they did very little lighting up the room at night. We had to use our phone torches to be able to find something in our suitcases. I don’t know if there are newer rooms in the hotel, but our room could do with a proper renovation. Overall, it was a very unsatisfactory experience for a place that claims to be a 4 star hotel, and costs over £300/night. Lucky Ghent has so much charm that despite the above issues we enjoyed our stay.

Comfortable Stay in Ghent River Hotel

Lovely room, courteous staff and excellent location.

Neighbouring room noise was, on occasion, noticeable (lively couple for the first few nights talking loudly into the early hours 3am). Demolition of building next door was unavoidable but did have an impact on the overall 'feel' whilst there.

It was not great

There was a conference and the whole night loud music. The noise continued during breakfast/lunch/coffee breaks of the conference attendants since they mingled directly next to my room. If there was any silence from people my room was so poorly located that the music from the reception was very disturbing. I had to keep the curtains closed all time because of poor room location. In addition there was currently a person standing in my room since her card seemed to work on my door? The AC in the room was completely out of control and way to warm!

The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. I appreciate that they offer affordable upgrades to make the trip special. Location is awesome - right close to everything! Parking available in the Friday Market a few minutes away - you can see spots available online. The breakfast was awesome. All very worth it - will definitely be returning!

ground floor rooms were small and dark. no bar staff in the evening and reception staff covering who had no idea what they were doing (they admitted that themselves) . ran out of gin even though there was nobody using the bar.

Good location! Average service!

ONLY its location...

The staff does not communicate well between them, an envelope from my agency was sent there with all my trip docs and it took them over 30 minutes to locate it... The AC was not working in my room and at first the person at front desk hesitated to change us to another room but he did... We were on the floor where they served breakfast and they use the hallway to get to the rooms as a transit area to the kitchen... I left a jacket and they had plenty of time to send it to my hotel in Amsterdam and they didn't do it. I asked them to send it to the US and already agreed on the shipping rate and I have not heard back from them after 15 days. Not a good experience!!

Enjoyable overall.

The staff were excellent and the view was amazing. Also, the location, too, was excellent. The historic nature of the building was awesome as well.

Our room was underneath the breakfast patio and the scraping of the chairs was extremely loud in the mornings. The “hot” breakfast, while very tasty, was seldom hotter than lukewarm at best.
