Wonderful seaside hotel

Very good selection of breakfast cereals, juice, bread, fruit, fish, charcuterie; wide range of cooked breakfast items, all delicious. The dinner menu was very good and we really enjoyed our meals on both evenings, the beef was especially good. We’ve been staying here regularly for over 20 years and it’s our favourite hotel in Sidmouth. The main draw for us is the very comfortable sun lounge overlooking the sea where you can really relax and enjoy afternoon tea

Good, but not great, with cold pool, tiny beds and substandard breakfast

Staff lovely, hotel generally great

Pool very cool - a stretch to call it “heated” which definitely marred the experience. Some of the food was excellent but the breakfast was always somehow off, nothing tasted quite right and I would never normally say this about a hotel breakfast. The beds were the smallest singles I have ever seen - I could barely turn around without finding an edge and I am 5”8 and regular build. Restaurant was also slightly cramped and stuffy.

A wonderful indulgent break away that is so close to town.

Staff/team are charming and professional. The beds are very comfortable and we slept well; this is so important to be able to unwind when away on a break. Food in the white room was superb and the waiting staff so helpful and attentive :)

Relaxing, comfy stay

The hotel is very traditional but it also mixes some modern aspects; The spa facilities are just brilliant. The Dinner was excellent and breakfast was great, and hot. Every staff there was courteous, service was impeccable. Very spacious room with a great view. The room was maybe a bit too hot for me but opening the window a bit was no hardship. On the whole, an excellent stay, very relaxing.

Peaceful,charming, classic surroundings and super staff.

This visit was a birthday gift for my daughter and Son in law. They both enjoyed their time at the hotel, they felt it had a timeless elegance and charm.

Hotel - Location brilliant - staff made me feel uncomfortable

The location - food was great - variety of drink very good - facilities at the hotel brilliant

I feel a bit uncomfortable- as if I was not trusted to pay my bill or could not afford to say at the Victoria - I noticed a difference in the way we where treated - and I have stopped before had Sunday lunch and afternoon tea as we only live around 30 miles away . But we were definitely looked down on so I felt somewhat uncomfortable- so we ate out in the evening at a local pub the swan .

Couple in Sidmouth

Lovely atmoshere at this quality hotel.

The standard rooms are a little small, but overly so. Be aware a dress code exists for the main restaurant, no shorts allowed, because of the hot weather was all I'd brought, so wasn't allowed in. Which is fair enough, but they were smart shorts and others permitted wearing jeans and trainers.

Great breakfast with choice of smoked haddock and kippers. Location fine although a bit of a hike to The Ham for the Folk Festival.

We had an amazing time and will return.

On the second day we were moved to a beautiful table which we kept for breakfast each day. We enjoyed dinner every evening in the White Room which was excellent in every way. Aiden gave us a superb table for three of the evenings. Magnificent food.

When the bedroom windows are open they are extremely dirty in the grooves of the windows. Unseen when closed. Not keen on Bingo, the quiz was fun.

We had a wonderful time in a first class hotel.

Wonderful hotel. High standards of cleanliness, service, food. Perfect location right near the beach but slightly raised so having a wonderful view of the sea and coast. Beautiful classic décor, stylish drapes, gorgeous fresh flower displays everywhere, tasteful wallpapers and soft furnishings. Fun evening entertainments on offer for those who wanted them but which weren’t dominating or intrusive for those who didn’t. Fab outdoor pool and spa with jacuzzi, sauna, steam room. We had a massage which was superb and very relaxing. Would go again and stay there at the drop of a hat.

Beautiful property with sea views , very clean and staff were very attentive.

Lovely location, luxury feel and comfy bed. Loved the outside pool area!

The rooms were too warm. We stayed during a spell of good weather, about 25 degrees outside. There was no air conditioning and despite having a fan in the room it didn’t really cool things down. There was also no fridge so impossible to keep water cold for drinking in the room overnight. Given the price paid for our stay they should really have this sorted. Silly prices for all drinks and snacks too.

Nice hotel with an older then average crowd

Nice all around. Slightly dated but well maintained. The Spa is nice but a bit small, sauna and steam room are ok, but it’s a bit of walk to the shower located next the pool. The putting green was fun!

Staff is a bit hit and miss. Bar tender wanted to pore the Port in a Whiskey glass, but nice when pointed in the right direction. Breakfast table initial did not have a view while a free table did. The initial request to change was answered by: sorry the table is not set. Upon the waiter came back and fixed it. So to sum up, not a big issue but could be better.

A wonderful stay at a classic hotel with sea views and a wonderful outdoor pool

Wonderful setting with helpful staff and the most amazing lovely outdoor pool. We had good weather which made it very easy to enjoy. We were also lucky that our room was upgraded at no extra cost so we had a sea view. We were not expecting that.

We did not have breakfast at the hotel because it looked a tad formal for us in the dining area, but it is quite a traditional hotel. (We had a great breakfast at Roma which is further along the seafront in the town) ...but I think loads of people do enjoy the breakfast at The Victoria.
