Go ahead and stay there

Staff members were overall good, one young lady stood out from the rest, a trainee manager I believe, very knowledgeable about the business , she was on duty at evening meals, I had many great conversations with her , made us laugh and she was very attentive. Well done to her .

A quirt hotel but not great value for the money we paid.

The hotel was modern and very clean . staff were helpful and friendly.

A hotel lost its shine

The Manager in person and the GM were genuinely apologetic about the poor standards we experienced in the hotel I wish them well on the work to improve these with their teams, all of these things are fixable for a business that cares The view at breakfast is impressive

Bedding was visibly dirty Dust had accumulated on the phone and bedside table; there was visible accumulations of dust around the edges of the carpets. A mouldy lemon in the ice box. The hotel is in poor state of repair, with scuffs and damage to fixtures visible throughout. Water damage to ceiling and paintwork in the bar. Staff attention to detail is repeatedly poor with cups and glasses not cleared, or orders not followed up on

Location

We were given a room positioned in an alleyway in an external courtyard, room no 158. The room was so dark you couldn’t tell whether it was night or day with a brick wall for a view. I raised the issue with reception and they acknowledged it as ‘not the best room’. This room should not be marketed as having a ‘Courtyard view’.

Lovely room with beautiful views of the sea and Sidmouth. The bed was very comfortable and we appreciated the complimentary toiletries, bath robes, slippers, tea and coffee. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The public areas are really well presented and the hotel has a smart, modern but relaxed feel about it.

The cleanliness around the shower area was diasappointing (the tray and rails at the bottom of the door). The shower pressure is poor and there were areas in the bathroom and bedroom that would benefit from some TLC. There was a hole in the carpet and a few areas of chipped tiles and paintwork.

Made a work trip seem like a holiday

I can honestly say this is the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in all staff were exceptional I’d also like to thank Susan in the spa department for being helpful and explaining how everything works I will be returning for a next visit soon

Very disappointing. It was not what we would expect from a 4star hotel.

Lovely position with beautiful views from the bar and restaurant.

We booked a courtyard view room but our view was actually the council car park over the road. Our bathroom was very tired and dirty. Our window didn’t open and there was rubbish in the bin in our bedroom on arrival. Our mini bar was also missing items on arrival. We complained within an hour of arriving and a receptionist came and emptied the bin and replenished the mini bar but couldn’t fix the window. We were told maintenance would come and fix it but, despite speaking to reception several times, it was never fixed and we ended up having it propped open by another staff member just to get some air in (see photo).

Breakfast excellent choice & quality produce, location, relaxing atmosphere, leisure & access to facilities, toiletries, staff were excellent to.

Thought the evening resturant menu could have been better, with more choice & variety. Some items where good but then there accompiments not so. I.e., duck nice, but not with lentils. Hence chose to eat elsewhere Saturday & Sunday.

Be wary of extra charges during your stay

Courtyard room was comfortable, clean and spacious. Once in the spa it was relaxing and great that the use of it was included in our booking. Staff were happy to help.

We made 3 attempts to get into the spa but were told it was too busy and to come back. At dinner we were asked what water we wanted and presented with a bottle of still water at £6.50! No mention that tap water was available free of charge. Be wary of the additional charge for a cooked breakfast. Although the continental breakfast was included in our B&B room, anything from the kitchen was an additional £10. Not very clear at the time of booking or when you’re sitting down for breakfast. Not sure I’ve ever stayed in a hotel where I’ve had to pay an extra fee for a cooked breakfast when I’ve paid for a B&B room.

We asked for chocolate to be put into room twice but it never was. We didn’t get bottled water every day, when I asked one of the cleaners I was told they had no more! Room service was ok but the bed wasn’t made very well apart from the last day. Also the room wasn’t hoovered at anytime either which was disappointing.

Fine but not value for money

The location is excellent in a pretty seaside town. The bed was very comfortable. Staff were pleasant. We enjoyed a hearty breakfast with a few options, and the spa was an enjoyable way to spend a morning.

Having stayed in an extremely nice hotel in Devon recently for the same price at high season, we felt this was overpriced. The hotel looks nicer in the pictures than reality; the room was quite dark and a bit drab. The tap was broken so it took a while to get hot water in the shower, the toilet was not flushed when we arrived, mould in the shower, and the bathroom door was dirty. It would take 30 seconds to wipe all the marks off the bathroom door. There's a bit of a lack of attention to detail that lets the hotel down - like the easy-to-repair cracked floor tiles in reception, scuffed walls, lack of flowers, out-of-order drier and jacuzzi features in the spa, lack of flip-flops in the spa (with the result that water is everywhere because people walk barefoot and also have to exit the pool area to get a drink of water).

Pleasant stay at The Harbour Hotel Sidmouth

We liked our room and the lovely sea views.

The long narrow corridors/lift to get to our room location which was at the end of the building. The room had a decanter with Gin and 2 glasses, however no information to advise that the bottles of Fever tree tonic in the fridge were free to use with the Gin! A shame as we didnt drink the Gin as we didnt want a surprise charge added to our bill. There should be information on the tray to advise customers of the tonic in the fridge.

I have stayed here before, and the hotel in general is absolutely lovely with exception views. We had one evening meal in the restaurant, and it was delicious, beautifully cooked and served very well....cannot fault it !!

We had a problem with our bathroom....the bath plug would not work, hence a bath was out of the question on the first night. The bathroom extractor fan was also not working properly. All this was rectified by the following day. I did have a bath on our second night of the stay, but I found that the knobs for turning the bath water on/off/temperature were situated on the wall under the shower....which is ok, but I had to stand up and turn the water off , then get back down in the bath...... which is not easy when you have joint problems, as the knobs are so high up. It would be much better to have the bath knobs/taps down by the bath!!

A lovely stay

The Harbour is a fabulous hotel, beautifully located, light and airy and clean and fresh. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble. (Unless, read below 😂😂) The food is very good and there is a wonderful selection. The breakfasts are an absolute must. We stayed for 4 nights in the end, adding an additional night.

The fact the refreshing of our bedroom daily was hit and miss. Our headboard was so thick with dust you. You could literally roll it up when you put your finger in it. Some items stocked up and replaced other things not, such as missing towels etc In the restaurant/bar area having had and enjoyed several drinks, we then asked for the menu and having perused the selection, decided to eat there on our first evening. A little later we asked the waiter, whether we could relocate to the table by the window. His response, “you need to walk to the other side of the bar, then someone will help you”. We did as directed, only to be met by the same waiter, asking how he could help. My husband and I completely lost it, it was hysterical. Almost like a scene from Faulty Towers. Completely and utterly ridiculous.

It was our wedding anniversary and the hotel was exactly what we wanted

The hotel is in a good location and the breakfast and dinner were excellent. The spa is included in the price. It has 2 swimming pools. The room was excellent. It was clean and had everything we needed. The bar is well stocked with good beers and spirits.

Not being able to order a sandwich at 3pm on Sunday in the upper deck. Also, could not get room service as reception didn't answer the phone. We always managed to park the car when we wanted to but there were very few, if any spare parking places.

We wish we could have stayed longer!

Another Harbour makeover of a traditional seaside hotel and, as I have seen before, they have done it beautifully. The decor is elegant and calming and the staff friendly without being over the top. Our room was large and comfortable with all the facilities we needed - toiletries and refreshments were plentiful and of good quality. The bathroom was a bit old fashioned compared to the rest of the room but it functioned well and had a full sized bath. The room was rather warm at first but the air conditioning was effective. The best thing about the hotel is the spectacular view from the restaurant- definitely a perfect place to have breakfast!

The bedroom was rather warm and, though we could open the windows, there was a noisy fan or air conditioning unit outside. It didn’t affect our stay, however.

Relaxing but overpriced

The location is excellent with being close to the town, beach, local walks and the Connaught Gardens on the opposite side of the road in which a wonderful brass band concert playing in the gardens one evening happened to coincid with our stay. The views from the front of the hotel are wonderful.

Similar to a previous reviewer, there were lots of niggly things which detracted from our stay. We were fortunate to park in the car park although it was very difficult to get to due to a car parked in the courtyard on one side and the very ugly rubbish and laundry on the other. We had room 153, overlooking the courtyard and directly next to the stairs. The room was stiflingly hot, a fan was provided. The small sash window was difficult to move and we had help from the staff to open it - we kept it open during our stay to ventilate and cool the room. The bed was big but I didn't find it comfortable. We both slept poorly and it was compounded by the noise from cars, the rubbish being collected very early one morning, people congregating and talking very loudly, having to keep the noisy fan on due to the hot room, heavy footed people walking up/down the stairs and walking past our room - some people were very nosy too and so we had to keep the curtains closed. There was no free gin in the room. We didn't use the minibar as the contents was overpriced. The phone in the room didn't work. Our room was serviced however one of the housekeepers was a bit rude and twice came into the room without waiting. She also took our dirty laundry which we kept out of the way in the bathroom as she thought it was rubbish - it was returned and with an apology. I don't understand how you can mistake clothes for rubbish. As others have mentioned, the "free" breakfast was only continental. We did not choose the expensive cooked option. The choice was ok but samey and not great for gluten/lactose free. We used the indoor swimming pool and spa facilities. The pool was quite small but we still managed to swim lengths and the temperature was perfect. I had a massage during one afternoon but it was less than the time that was booked.

A little disappointing considering £235 a night

Location is great! Spa is nice Staff were so friendly! (We were offered a to-go breakfast as we were leaving at 7am and when we went to collect, the morning receptionist was no where to be seen with a phone number to ring for assistance to which no one answered.. when we did get hold of someone no one knew anything about it and nothing was prepared so we left with some Pastries only.

We stayed in the courtyard room 100 and it’s very noisy, car park is directly outside the door to the room and the road is only a few feet away. Slightly overpriced which I think a few people have said in other reviews. £4 for a can of coke from the room mini fridge!! Inconsiderate guests parking over lines it was like this both days the car park is only small I feel like the hotel could enforce this better. Outside pool could be warmer considering children are only allowed inside for two 1 hour slots a day

This is NOT a luxury hotel

The view from the pool / restaurant is amazing.

This hotel is not luxury - the pictures online do not match the reality. The cleaning team clearly has no experience as the rooms are barely touched after service - rubbish not collected, mini bar - not re-stocked, bathroom and carpet - not cleaned. The breakfast is a joke - bread and croissants mostly. A proper breakfast must be ordered which is misleading as the offer said 'breakfast included'. My daughter did not eat anything. The pool is so small. The indoor pool too. I sincerely regretted travelling 4 hours for this. For this money and this travel time - Spain, France, Greece, Bulgaria - almost anywhere would have been better and quicker.
