Lovely weekend

Nestled in the heart of Bowness-on-Windermere, The Stag's Head is a rare gem that perfectly combines old-world character and charm with modern comforts. My recent stay here was great and I can't recommend it highly enough. From the moment I walked in, I was welcomed by a warm and inviting atmosphere. The décor beautifully reflects the historic charm of the Lake District, with its wooden beams and rustic features, yet it also incorporates modern touches that ensure comfort and convenience. The balance between tradition and contemporary style is spot on – a true home away from home. The rooms were spacious, immaculately clean, and thoughtfully equipped with all the amenities you might need. The blend of classic charm and modern updates in the design made the stay both stylish and cosy. The bed was comfortable, guaranteeing a great night’s sleep, and the little details, from the plush towels to the locally sourced toiletries, added a touch of luxury. One of the highlights of my visit was the warm and attentive staff. They went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect and were always on hand. Being in Bowness, the hotel's location couldn’t be more ideal – just a short stroll to the sparkling shores of Lake Windermere and close to local shops, restaurants, and attractions. It's the perfect base to explore everything this beautiful part of the Lake District has to offer. And of course, I can't forget to mention the food! The on-site pub has a wonderfully cosy and traditional feel, and the menu offers a delicious range of hearty, freshly prepared meals. Paired with a great selection of drinks and the overall ambiance, dining here was an absolute treat. Overall, The Stag's Head is a charming, characterful retreat with just the right blend of tradition and modernity. Whether you're visiting Windermere for a romantic getaway, a family trip, or just a peaceful escape to nature, this place is an absolute must.

Parking was a bit limited in the area, so plan ahead if you’re driving as spaces in the car parks are limited.

Nothing. Hotel was filthy and nothing like photos I didn’t even stay not even stay I left immediately trying to get refund but hotel is ignoring me. I have photos of proof.

The room was old and dated. The shower didnt change temperature and was far too hot . There were lights outside the room that never turned off and the curtains didn’t stop the light coming through. People were arguing outside the room door at 3am. The property stunk of smoke.

Awful security . Literally the worst doormen I’ve ever seen. They walk around like storm troopers and even have handcuffs. Make it a very intimidating atmosphere and they must have a load of trouble to have this much security

Twin beds were smaller than standard singles which meant 2 adult females could barely fit, they are more like child cots width wise. We were greeted by police and 2 bouncers on the front door to the hotel who made it known they felt sorry for us staying there as we entered after dinner. A patron was arrested at 2am for assaulting a police officer. Dirty headboard and carpets covered in stains, broken window blind in the bathroom meant people on the street could see you in the shower.

Great central location with access to everything Bowness has to offer by foot. Good value for money relative to other available options. Live music Friday and Saturday until midnight.

Mattress needs replacing - could feel the bedframe beneath it! Pillows were wafer thin... Could hear the music on the middle floor from the nightclub below until 2am.

Stags head is located perfectly to all amenities. It’s not boutique and plush but price reflects that! Clean room, lovely staff good breakfast and a traditional pub… stayed here many times, it’s got character and we love the place, also Sunday night karaoke is mint 😄

It’s centrally located, not the easiest when driving and parking isn’t the easiest (or wasn’t during my stay) The hotel allowed early checkin via prior arrangement which was a huge help. The room was reasonably large, clean and although it looked newly decorated, seemed dated. The bed was huge.

When I got back from an evening out there was karaoke on until the early hours. It was extremely loud. The bed, although huge, wasn’t the comfiest

Breakfast was very good and the staff were very welcoming. The location is at the heart of the Bowness town near to the lake and 2 mint walk to the bus stop.

Probably the hotel building is very old which leads to take some time for hot water to come through the shower. Wifi connection is very poor in the room.

Bad back no sleep due to such a uncomfortable bed

The staff where really nice except when I complained about the bed they offered me a refund late at night and said they had a wedding party in.There was not any sign of a wedding party I just dont think they could be bothered and said they had no where to move us.too.

The bed was so uncomfortable it was like to camp beds put together to make a double no sleep bad back from trying to sleep in ir.Staff said they would speak to management nothing was done about the situation whatsoever uninterested staff who I sploke too.

Location.

No mention of music or basement nightclub in the description of the hotel!! Noisy and drunk patrons above our room and base pulsating thru the floors. Noise outside aswell. I was looking forward to our visit to Bowness, but this has put me off coming back. Is the Stags Head a noisy club/boozer or a hotel?
