Dog friendly hotel in a beautiful setting, very elegant property.

Dinner menu is similar to a pub menu, didn’t expect this. Although breakfast was ok the dinner was rather bland. The night porter is not permitted to open the bar to serve any alcohol drinks or provide any drinks to the room after the bar closes.

Perfect for short one night stay.

Large room but noisy floorboards in our room and adjacent rooms. Caused wardrobe to creak. Breakfast really good. Dinner as expected. Drinks more expensive than average.

Creaky floorboards. Four floors without a lift could be to much for some. Particularly staying several days.

Amazing building, comfortable rooms, the friendliest most helpful staff I've ever come across. Great food. Great service all round Special mention to our smiling server Tina, the chef at breakfast who made my mum a slice of fried bread specially, and Steve the bar manager who went above and beyond to ensure my 92 year old Mum had her favourite brandy warmed perfectly. Even the cleaning staff were friendly and polite. Place was spotless. Before our visit we had excellent customer communication from the hotel management/reception. So helpful and very impressive

The disabled facilities could be improved. There is either 15 steps to the accessible room or a wheelchair lift. To be fair, they did inform us beforehand. However, the Accessible room is on the rear of the building so has a small window and not much natural light. The room lights are very subtle which is not helpful for visually impaired customers. The bathroom was perfect though and very well lit. I suggest a stronger lighting or a spotlight option to brighten up the room.

Beautiful Hotel with Beautiful grounds and the breakfast is really nice. They have really good options and variety.

The hotel rooms are outdated and need updating. The bathroom door frames and walls were dirty. Being a bit more thorough with cleaning routine would be good. The sofas and chairs in the bar area need to be updated, they are nice but just worn out

Everything. Although it was a little bit outside Gloucester the location was stunning. The staff were amazing and the room was also great. The breakfast was awesome.

There is assisted access to the first floor with a stairlift. We were on the top floor so three flights of stairs was a challenge but we were offered help. So just an observation to ask for a first floor room if you have mobility issues.

Gem of a Hotel away from the busy streets of Gloucester

We stayed at the Mercure as we were invited to Gloucester Rugby. Lovely location and Venue, really professional friendly staff. The room was really nice with a huge comfy bed, coffee machine, bath robes and a big TV. We woke up to a lovely view of the large pretty Glamping pods (Used for a 40th Birthday the night we arrived and another group used them for breakfast in the morning) overlooking the river. Breakfast was very tasty with lots of hot and cold choices, choices of juice and a coffee machine with everythingyou need, also the option to have a filtered coffee delivered tonyour table.. We were even treated to a Faulty Towers experience with Manuel, Basil and Cybil talking to everyone as we sipped our fresh coffee. We will definitely be staying again and enjoy the bar and comfy seating area.

Such a shame about the restaurant menu

Very friendly staff and lovely breakfast

Very disappointed with the restaurant menu. Considering the hotel is an upper class one, the evening menu is more like a gastro pub! We were expecting steak or seafood as it was our anniversary, not pie or hunters chicken! I realise that the hotel cannot keep too much in the winter, but their website states that they serve steak and they did not. We had to go out to eat when we would have loved to have stayed and eaten in the hotel.

Constant problems with the room keys for 235. Coffee, tea, kettle hidden behind mirror in closet. No iron in the room. Not a fan of dogs and they did seem to be in all areas. Thankfully not the dinning room. The tofu was not available and there were no other vegan options, other that the soup. The veggie burger was not great and overpriced, as was most of the food. Service charge was automatically added to the bill. Breakfast is not included in the price of the room. As a business traveller this is very unusual.

Okay for 1 night.

Most of the staff were friendly and accommodating. The grounds were lovely.

The room I was in was at the end of a hallway with 2 sets of steps to get there. I wasn't offered a lift option to get there - imagine if I had an injury or a disability. My radiator was so loud and the person I reported it to said it couldn't be turned down but would go off at bedtime - it didn't. I ended up figuring it out by myself after having left windows open just to get the room comfortable. There was no iron in the room. The bath was very dirty so I couldn't have a bath. There were too many bright spotlights in the room and when I asked for a lamp, I was told there wasn't any available. The food I ordered was sub-standard and not as per the description (it was a burger that was missing some items and the fries were not chunky or triple-cooked; the cloche was also very dirty on the inside!) This based on my room - maybe others are better. Breakfast the next day took over 30mins - I timed it!

Disappointed with the lack of Christmas decoration. The difference in the meals on the Wednesday night to the Thursday night was significant -sent the meal back on the Thursday, night. We wondered whether the same chef was on , on both nights.

My room, view of the garden and lake, good breakfast, very comfortable bed and pillows, lots of hot water for a lovely bath.

Bedrooms not cleaned properly

The bedrooms had not been cleaned properly (see below for details). The person at the front desk did everything she could to help us, was friendly, very professional - and gave us a complimentary drink and a discount on our stay because of what happened.

When we arrived in our first room, it was clear the room had not been cleaned properly. We asked for a different room - the second room was technically an upgrade, but this had not been cleaned properly either. In fact, it even had dead flies on the carpet. We were disappointed, so asked for a third room. Unbelievably, this room had also not been hoovered properly, but it was cleaner than the others. The person at the front of the desk organised for the room to be hoovered while we had a complimentary drink at the bar. The tables in the dinning room / breakfast area were also not clean - several tables still had crumbs or sticky marks from previous guests. They might have been short staffed that weekend, Im not sure, but overall we would not recommend staying here.

Day to day running couldn’t be better but the bedrooms need renovating

Attic room with no view did not meet room expectations. Poor housekeeping, no mugs or spoons in room, only one comfortable chair, stains on carpet. Checked in 2 hours later than given time and room was not ready.
